Mascherano

I think Hleb is a good player but we dont need another non goalscoring midfielder, I really hope Mourinho comes in for masher to fuck Barca right off.

On another note i would just like to add that I fucking hate them Yanks i really do, just to reitierate like.

Weren't there reports the other week that Barcelona are skint? If this wasn't a lie then they are not likely to be putting massive bids in are they?

Mascherano will go, probably this week and probably on the cheap. We'll be lucky if we get our money back on him.

On reflection we probably should've got rid of him last summer.

We're holding out for 21 mill £. Straight cash deal and no player swap. ¨
Barca are offering 16 mill + Hleb aswell for 4 mill £, but we value Hleb at 1 mill £...

Hleb and £16million isn't enough.

But I don't like all this holding out for cash business, we did the same with Alonso and allegedly passed on players like Sniedjer. We need players, and quickly, they've got players we could do with, we need to get the best out of this situation.

Bojan must have slipped out in the pecking order with them buying Villa anyway, at least try to get him on loan.
Bojan would be terrific. I have always liked him and a decent cash sum plus Bojan would go a long way to making me feel less like battering everyone in our squad to death.

Hleb is surely worth more than £1M?
You mean like Mascherano is surely worth more than £12million?

I would like to see us get at least one player as part of a deal. If we get a load of cash I can see us still buying noone and having to make do with Lucas for another season.

It does depend on the player(s) though. Was Nunez the last player we got in those kind of circumstances?

Yup. I would accept any reasonable amount as long as we have enough time to bring in back up striker/midfielder/ left back. Of course, I am basing this on the assumption that Purslow/Hodgson are planning to sign those players.

20 mill + Hleb would be ok.

15 mill + Keita would be excellent
No. £20 mill + £10 mill would be excellent

£20 mill + £5 mill would be OK.

Taking their shit cast-offs would be disastrous.

I agree generally, but Keita isn't a cast off and I'd be pretty happy to take him if he was offered.

You know, I don't think his sale value would differ if I shoved a car key right down his japper, but I'd feel a whole lot better about the situation.

Liverpool FC won’t be bullied by Barcelona over Javier Mascherano - Roy Hodgson
Aug 24 2010 by Dominic King, Liverpool Echo

ROY HODGSON today warned Barcelona that Liverpool will not be bullied into giving Javier Mascherano the move he desperately craves.

The Argentine midfielder enraged his colleagues when he told Hodgson that he would not play in last night’s game against Manchester City.

Mascherano is angling for a move to the Nou Camp and his decision to effectively go on strike in some ways contributed to Liverpool’s 3-0 defeat at the City Of Manchester Stadium.

With Christian Poulsen not fit for duty, Hodgson was forced to play two men up front and City were able to exploit the gaps in the Reds’ engine room.

Barcelona have had an opening offer of £16m emphatically rebuffed by Liverpool and suggestions that a deal could be done for former Arsenal winger Aleksander Hleb are nonsense.

Clearly, though, Mascherano is trying to force Liverpool’s hand but Hodgson has re-iterated his tough stance that he would rather the 26-year-old leave Anfield on a free than on the cheap.

“Javier Mascherano is not in the right frame of mind at the moment to play a game because his head has been turned by the offer from Barcelona,†said Hodgson.

“The fee we are being offered and the fee we think is the correct fee are very, very far apart. Unless that can be resolved he might be unhappy here for a long time to come.â€

Mascherano still has two years left on his current deal and cost Liverpool £18.6m when his loan from West Ham United was made permanent in January 2008.

“The discussions between Barcelona and the club are being held at high club level and I don’t want to start saying things that may or may not be true,†said Hodgson.

“I have no wish to create headlines over the Mascherano situation. It’s not the first time these things happen and there are quite a lot of clubs suffering at the moment from clubs being courted by other clubs and the players therefore being unhappy at being required to fulfil their contracts.

“It has happened to us now. This matter has developed over the last couple of days. We have only known about it for the last three days.â€

Meanwhile, PSV Eindhoven have admitted the Reds are in discussions to sign Swedish forward Ola Toivonen.

A spokesman said: “Liverpool are in contact wth us and they know what we think.â€

Liverpool manager Roy Hodgson said Barcelona must increase their offer for Javier Mascherano after he was left out of the side beaten by Manchester City.

The 26-year-old was not in the Reds squad as they lost 3-0 and Hodgson said he might not pick the midfielder until the transfer window ends on 31 August.

Hodgson told BBC Sport: "His head is being turned by Barcelona, who are making overtures to him.

"But until an offer matches our valuation he will stay with us."

He said the sticking point with Barcelona was that the amount offered was "way, way below" Liverpool's reported £25m valuation of Mascherano.

Hodgson continued: "The player still remains unhappy. He is not interested in the justice of the fee, he just wants to move.

"It makes it uncomfortable for us. It's something to be resolved but certainly Javier was not in the right frame of mind so it was better to play with Lucas and Steven Gerrard, who certainly were committed to the cause."

Before the defeat at Eastlands, Hodgson said he hoped matters would be resolved before the end of the transfer window so he could pick the Argentine again.

Some reports circulating on Monday evening suggested the Catalan giants were offering only £12m for a player who cost Liverpool £18m three and a half seasons ago.

Hodgson has been consistent in conceding Liverpool would let Mascherano leave provided they received the right offer, honouring an agreement the player struck 12 months ago when Barcelona first expressed their interest.

Turning his attention to purchasing new players, Hodgson added: "I think we could augment our squad if we wanted to but the big thing is to make sure we find the right player.

"I don't want to be acting through panic, I want to make sure the player we sign is the right one."

This win helped us believe in ourselves and this is important

Dutch club PSV Eindhoven have revealed Liverpool have already been in touch over the possibility of signing their striker Ola Toivonen.
What win???? Senile old fucker.
Oncy I think that line about the win was actually the first line of Mancini's interview. At least I hope it was

Sorry Oncey.
I edited out the bit from the report about Mancini talking about City's win last night as it doesn't make pleasant reading.
Obviously I missed out on a line. :-[

edit. Bang on Jack

Then you'd have to drive home with that though, would you want to?

I was planning on using his key. The Aston Martin one might take a bit of shoving but I'm sure it would fit in the end

According to Spanish media there is only 3 mill euros that seperates their offer from what we want now. This will probably be sorted soon. We're holding out for 21 mill £
I honestly dont think it is going to help. We have signed his replacement. Anyone can see that. Poulsen is Mascheranos replacement. Which means we will HAVE to play Lucas when either Gerrard or Cole is injured.
So we will HAVE to play Lucas for half the season.
So we will be playing Lucas.
So we are fucked.

If Lucas plays, we are well and truely fucked.

With Aqua gone and now Masch, surely Roy will buy one more midfielder.

That is £18m at current rates.

Not nearly enough in my book unless there is a squad player included in the deal

18 will be a shockingly shit figure.

I've seen 25m bandied about.

That's reasonable, but feel that closer to 28 is his real value.

I'll take 15m plus any two of the following.
11 FW Bojan Krki?
15 MF Seydou Keita
16 MF Sergio Busquets
17 FW Pedro Rodríguez
18 DF Gabriel Milito
19 DF Maxwell

£21million and Hleb, I could live with.

We desperately need another CM
It is €21m Neeta and I don't think Hleb is a centre mid.

I mean we need a DM after we sell Mascherano, I didn't mean Hleb was that DM. I like that Diarra link.

Lol @ Oncy, they'd never let Busquets go, he's one of their golden boys, he belongs at Barca.
