Markovic: I Was Frozen Out

A Turkish newspaper is reporting that we're not willing to sell Markovic. 25 million Euro's declined.

I dont believe that for a second. I think Fener have leaked that story to placate their fans when he goes back. If we genuinely turned down £20m for him I think I would lose any hope. Breaking even is the best possible case for Markovic, he can do a job but hes never going to be a star. We paid a premium based on a 20 year old with real potential. Next month hes 22 and hes not really improved.

Time to cut our losses, he should be in the same bracket as Benteke, sell now and salvage what we can in terms of value.

Klopp will watch him play and judge him as player there. If an offer comes in close to what we paid then it will surely will be considered, which is only right.

Personally I'm undecided if I'd like to see him in a red shirt again. On the one hand he deserves a chance in his favored position, but all evidence so far suggest he's a fairly limited, although quick counter-attacking player and that isn't our game, so it seems inevitable it won't work out for him here.

If we have the option to sell this donkey and we pass on it, it will be something that everyone will regret deeply.

You're right, but who else should I compare him to?

Do you really need me to answer that? I'm not going to be hyperbolic and claim you're ruining the forum but you're doing yourself no favours by referencing him so often. It makes me less inclined to bother reading anything you've written, which may not mean anything to you but as far as I'm concerned it's a shame.

At the same time: "Lallana needs more time".

Markovic isnt the only player we need to move on, thats not really the point. You could point to a whole host of players and say 'how come hes still at the club?' the answer is we are terrible at offloading our bad purchases. If somebody is foolish enough to offer us our money back on Markovic then we should bite their fucking hands off, not worry about his relative order of merit versus Lallana, who ideally we would also sell this summer.

Not if the manager want to keep the player. It must be the manager that decides that if a club don't offer crazy money for a player. £20m for Markovic isn't crazy money.

I disagree. £20m for Markovic now would be insane. Hes done fuck all for 2 years and not a whole lot before that. We massively overpaid, we have to accept that. Nobody is going to offer us what we paid because he is clearly not going to be the sort of player we had hoped.

Hes about the level of Ibe with half the work ethic and no club outside of the Chinese Super league would offer £20m for Ibe. Ill be seriously surpriaed of Klopp brings him back long term.

I thought he had a very decent work ethic. Worked hard for the team.

I felt about Markovic a little like with Firmino. There's a really good player there - and just needs a little push start to get going. Firmino got going with the Arsenal game - hopefully won't look back. Markovic had the Sunderland game when we could really see the player he could be ... but did not kick on. Clearly has the talent, though.

Agree that there looks to be talent in there but not sure if it's enough to persist with.

If we got a 20M bid, I'd bite their hands off to be honest.
