Isn't the mortality rate for K2 climbers something like 40%, or similarly ridiculous?
It's extremely high though I don't think it's that high overall, maybe for those that summit. I vaguely remember reading that the mortality rate for K2 is 10 times higher than that of Everest. But that's not in winter, K2 is the only 8,000m+ mountain never summited in winter.

There are some excellent articles on Nat Geo that lead me to follow the current attempts (and maybe the actual mortality figures are buried within :

There's no way I would attempt something that had such a high chance of death.

So, you're saying the earth is NOT a sphere ....
I'm not, that science website is.

Although I've always believed it was a bit wider round the middle just cos Utd make sense given my understanding of physics.

I always wondered whether the vacuum of space would alter that, but the fact that every planet is spherical suggests that it doesn't. Sadly I didn't study science at a high enough level to get to proving or disproving it either way.

The earth bulges a bit in the middle because it has a liquid core and the earth's spin causes the liquid to bulge at the equator slightly.

Some planets don't have a liquid core, I think Mars used to have one but for some reason it solidified and that's why it doesn't bulge so much. Other planets like Jupiter and Saturn are mainly gas and that's why they don't bulge so much.
