Post Match Man United 2-2 - Sunday 5th January

I dunno..it was scuffed and went through Robbo’s legs (who should have done better again)…it’s just a really shit goal all round to concede at home to our historical rivals when 2-1 up.

Yeah, maybe it was just all around. The ball just rolled in at slow pace in the middle of the goal.

So, if Harry Maguire had scored at the death yesterday it has been confirmed that it would have been ruled out for off side.
I kind of wish he had now

Yeah, but if that's the solace they can take, we should have denied it them.

I'm still not bullish about the title, and it's because of shit like this. I agree with vvd that we are a work in progress. We might be able to win the title being the least in progress of all the works, but it'd be better for my life if we just actually sorted ourselves out.

That's all fair, and I'm far from booking a flight home for the parade, but I'd be far more worried if any of our closest rivals showed any signs of being able to put the kind of run together that it's gonna take to reel us in now. As somebody else pointed out recently,

Yeah, I just think we are falling off in terms of results.

I don't care if others are too.

Yeah I get that same feeling, I am not looking forward to the Forest game at all to be honest. Its fucking depressing

I certainly don't think it's a cert that we'll win, but we are top of the League, all our starters are fit, and Slot seems to have studied a video of the Forest match every night.

How the in the world are you depressed?

Slot has been one to make tactical changes throughout the game bar the Man U game. Now we are playing teams for a second time under him I would hope he has a better understanding of the opposition. That would mean we are set up better from the start. Not that it helped on Sunday but that’s gone now.

Yeah but at the same time the opposition had had time to study Slot too.

They have but we’ve seen reports that he changes so often during the games they don’t have a clue what’s going on. This is why we look so much better in the second half of games.

The inside Anfield episodes on YouTube usually ends with footage from the hallways, showing players talking to each other etc.

No such footage from the Man U game...

I think some shit went down after the game.

i'm not convinced. there would be a lot more rumours than just that 1

Dfferent manager and setup, to be fair. I agree it’ll help going forward. Although we’re not as reliant on last-minute winners as we were during the latter part of Klopp’s time, becoming more effective in the first half will boost our title challenge and, hopefully, allow us to utilise the squad players more. Almorim won’t be the last new manager he faces, though. Wolves and Saints are still to come, and Everton and Spurs may well make changes before we face them in the league. Should be fine eitherway.

Yeah someone should have stoved Trent's head in with his phone. But you know, we dropped a couple of points in shit conditions against a team that always seems to find a way. Not the end of the world. No injuries. And in good news Nunez got suspended

I know Mancs are a shit midtable team these days but if failing to beat them rattles our players so much that it derails our season for the second year in a row that's Arsenal behaviour

Also anyone who doesn't put in 120% at Forest needs to get hooked at half time now. Massive game for mentality given the circumstances

I am not bothered by the draw, I think we were lucky, but one player really stuck out for his poor show. I hate thumping teams because some players go on chill mode, I am looking at trent and Robbo.
Anyways, hopefully this acts as a kick up the backside. I would play Trent and Robbo the league cup game and keep Conor and Tsimikas fresh for Forest.

As I've found out, psychology is a massive part of management nowadays. Id sack of training this week, give them each a axe and tell them all to go and chop down a tree before the match with Forest.

Also, If we're lucky, Nunez will probably miss the tree and end up decapitating himself

Just realised that I left this half finished, for some reason... Sorry 'bout that.

What I meant to say was that, as somebody else has previously posted, I'm no longer worried about points, I'm now judging how we're doing versus the other team nearest us. If we drop points, but they do too, fuck it. We have 8 more points that we can lose compared to them, and we'll still be leading, so I'm not gonna lose too much sleep over the occasional blip.

Like I say, I'm not pretending that we're already home and dry, but nor did Sunday send me into a panic... We've earned the right to not have to be perfect every week for a while yet.

I think what’s happening is that teams are deploying more numbers in a deep block at Anfield than they are their own grounds, which is why our away results have looked so good.

That’s the fear for the second half of the season - as teams scrap for points it’ll lead to them deploying whatever tactics they can to get a point.

This is where, in theory, someone like Trent with his passing and someone like Chiesa, who defenders aren’t used to, could be the difference.
