Post Match Man United 2-2 - Sunday 5th January

Sorry if already commented but I saw a thing on twitter about a steward claiming he could hear a proper bust up coming from our changing room, maybe even something thrown? Could all just be the usual Liverpool rumor mill. I should’ve copied the link. Just curious if anyone’s heard/seen the same?

What really got to me about Trent was that he just didn't look arsed, particularly towards the end of the game. He was having a mare, his head dropped and he just stopped trying - floating out of position, making no effort to get back and defend, VvD calling him out on it and him not even bothering to have a go back.
You're a local lad, we're playing Man United at home, people are asking questions about your commitment, you've had a week to prepare for the game, it's not happening for you in attack and you're not going balls to the wall to defend a lead we barely deserved? Seriously?

The thing about the room being silent apart from Virgil tearing strips off Nunez and Trent?

That's the thing though. He doesn't have a simple solid game. It's all about the passing with him. To go so bad in a week is really weird. If it was normal circs you'd just say oops bad game, but you can't ignore the context.
His passing has been erratic before today, he just keeps trying until it isn't.

Good find, exactly that.

Hopefully Hansern is correct and it’s made up but I couldn’t begrudge Virgil losing it after that kind of performance.

I can see Virgil just turning up their houses and tearing strips off the two of them. Only for Nunez to go “que?”

Sorry to be that cunt but it did make things erratic for passing on the floor... But they should have figured that out after a minute or two.
I can understand it affects play, but as you say we should have figured that out early. It didn't seem to hamper united playing through us

We weren't at the races, and if you're not at the races against United (regardless of form), why the fuck are you playing for Liverpool

I hope it happened to be honest. I've never been more proud of Virg than yesterday, he was the only defender who did his job and his post match blast at laziness was spot on.

I don't think the story as told by that Arsenal supporter happened. But I definitely hope Virgil had words behind closed doors.

The standard wasn't good enough. Not just Trent but especially him. Across the board not good enough. Not from the Scousers, not from the guys looking for new contracts (Virgil excepted), not from anyone.

I’m really curious how Trent reacts to this - by all looks he and his people monitor social media and this reaction has got to sting. The fucking Tranmere Rovers posted they would not want Trent after this performance. Some people in Madrid might have been taken aback too. Will he go deeper into the hole or bounce back with a venegance?

It is entirely up to him. Either he goes into his shell and be no use to anyone or takes it on the chin and comes back focused.

If he thinks this is bad wait till he gets to Madrid.

That’s the life of a professional athlete - you let yourself get distracted momentarily and someone will immediately come and take your lunch.

The irony is that Trent had his lunch eaten by Diogo Dalot of all people - not prime Robben or Hazard, but a fellow right-back playing on the wrong side by necessity. Skinned him every time and every which way. Just last week I heard Goldbridge make a huge deal of how Dalot being right-footed makes him unusable in Amorim’s system - now the perceptions will shift…

It's not the first time an average player has been made to look world class by Trent.

Yeah, but if that's the solace they can take, we should have denied it them.

I'm still not bullish about the title, and it's because of shit like this. I agree with vvd that we are a work in progress. We might be able to win the title being the least in progress of all the works, but it'd be better for my life if we just actually sorted ourselves out.

Watching the goals again and Alisson should do better for the 2nd. Feels a bit soft.
