Post Match Man United 2-2 - Sunday 5th January

Also need to mention that Virgil HAD to score that header late on too. It was gift wrapped.
Replay looked like he was stretching for it and all the power was taken out of it.

I’d say Bradley had to square to Salah who was wide open. If you get cute and try near post instead of squaring for a tap in you have to score.

Maybe - just feel the criticism is going a little too far.

Yes he wasn’t great, but also, he was targeted and very effectively so.

Maybe all this nonsense is finally getting to him - you’ve got to figure he knows what the fan mood is like - I don’t think he’s been particularly bad this season, but we’re at the point where people are actively looking for reasons to be critical of him - performance like this is manna from heaven for that.

Same happened when Mo went through a bad patch last season - so you tell me what’s the best approach - sink the boot in hard so he has to go or support him through a tough time.

Lot of time for Slot, where he is different than Klopp is… Klopp would have hugged Trent back to life.

I think more than anyone, Trent has been impacted personally on Klopp going (could argue the reverse for Mo).

Where at the stage where I expect to see Trent shirts getting burnt on social media.
It’s the effort piece. When you walk around the pitch vs Utd and are clearly being targeted fans will react. It’s on slot for not hooking him at HT.
I think he’s had one of his least effective seasons for us by far.

Trent did look the most emotional during Klopps fair well but he’s been Uber complimentary of Slot.

As others have said, I can forgive a poor game or even a run of them if you show effort and passion and don’t hide (see Robbo) but Trent did none of that yesteday. Obv the contract stuff boils it over but his antics when he does score has added fuel to that too.

I agree. It’s pretty obvious he’s struggling under the weight of the pressure crunch around a decision / contract negotiations etc.

I can’t help but thinking that Slot would be the last manager to let slide any drop in intensity / effort and Trent’s languid playing style lends itself to a perception that he’s not trying when things are going wrong. He’s playing (under manager orders I assume) in a hybrid role again that accepts the risk of space behind in lieu of the added attacking threat he offers…it also requires a fair bit shuttling around that will likely tire Trent in the final third of games…something Slot should have rectified by bringing on Bradley earlier - especially given Trent was well off his game.

All that is not to say I don’t think Trent did himself or the side justice yesterday…he stank the place out. If Bradley is fit, I’d be taking Trent out of the starting eleven until things are sorted over January and giving Bradley a run out as first choice RB with the likely future scenario in mind. Let Trent tick over as an impact sub against tiring sides in games we’ve already put to bed (hopefully). At the end of the day he’s our vice captain, has been agile, a willing runner and key to a lot of our successes under Klopp…agitating against him all game won’t just affect him but our whole team performance…it’s not what the side needs right now.

With a proper RB, we win that comfortably 2-0. Utd were ok but we played right into their hands with our naive tactics. Too slow, trying to push everything through the middle and then resorting to hopeless long balls when we lost patience.

I have no idea what we're doing with our fullbacks but it's disrupting our effectiveness both ends of the pitch. Neither offer enough offensively and defensively.....well......yeah.

It was a terrible performance by LFC team, almost half of the players weren't there at all and couldn't compete, however, the team's loss of two valuable points, was down to Trent. I have always said that Trent is no defender, he is a light midfielder, he has no awareness as a defender, and even in the England National team, they never used as a right back, very rarely!. I personally blame Slot for chicken out by not to replace him after the first United goal! And this is because of the £78 Million contract the LFC has offered to Trent, which he won't sign, sell him this month and get rid of him. Trent was fully responsible for the two goals against Fulham two weeks ago, too!. United left back had full freedom to attack towards our box unchallenged from the both useless Salah who never tackle, and the same with Trent who can only foul the player. United managed has identified that our team's right side is the weakest and will get lots of joy from there to score, and his plan has worked thanks to the useless Trent.
LFC and Slot must decide this month on Trent, firstly he ought to be dropped from the first side. LFC needs to bring in new players this month, it is vital to stay the course and finish over the line. The squad is still weak in all departments. We need a lost of luck this month!

Actually he doesn't seem to be, as per the heat maps below :

Struggling Alexander-Arnold left exposed

So much about Trent Alexander-Arnold’s display on Sunday was puzzling. Real Madrid’s now-public courtship may have had something to do with it, but at times it felt he was being hung out to dry. Poorly as he played, he was deliberately exposed by his own team, left to deal with whatever threats Manchester United could conjure down their left flank while the only players likely to drop back and help him out, Mohamed Salah and Ryan Gravenberch, rarely did so. When it became obvious that he was having an off day, nothing was done to cover for it and nurse him back into the game. When his own poor clearance was returned in the buildup to United’s opening goal it found him briefly with four opponents to deal with by himself, demonstrating that Liverpool’s problems down the right were not just an individual but a systemic issue. He is (usually) an astonishingly good player, but miracles will sometimes be beyond him. Simon Burnton

This is utter bull shit. That poor clearance was down to him trying to be Mr Hollywood and then when Man U got the ball back he trotted round like he was a dog looking for another dog’s arse to sniff.

Oh so now the media is protecting him now he's probably fucking off

Both can be true.
They can be, but they aren’t. It starts with him being closed down by rat face with the other 3 just standing 7-10 meters away. He tries a ball inside to Salah who has a man on his back instead of doing what most defenders do and clear it down the line. Then he leaves his position to walk across his own box instead of going with the man who scored.

I got sent a video from a Utd supporting mate regarding Trent and that goal. Probably the worst effort I've ever seen from a Liverpool defender.
Its not often, if ever, Virgil is that angry. Rightfully so though as those standards aren't acceptable. Watching it back I would nearly expect Slot to have a word 1 v 1 in terms of mindset and attitude. Trent should get the chance to redeem himself, but yesterday is just not acceptable.

Szobo is a must start going forward. Few minutes under his belt against Spurs and then unleash him against Forest.

He also has an ability to fill in across the forward line during a match, whether pressing or when we are countering. With United's packed back line yesterday, imagine if we were putting him on instead of Donkey. Or starting him, and actually having a more effective press.

I missed why he missed the game. He wasn't suspended right?

He had the shits.

He was out ill. We really missed him.

The weather shite I'm just not accepting.

Did united play only in glorious sunshine today? No. They fought for every ball, and made every possession count. They played quick counter attacking football and actually fucking ran.

Blaming the weather is a cunts trick, and I'm not having it.

Sorry to be that cunt but it did make things erratic for passing on the floor... But they should have figured that out after a minute or two.
