Lucas

It was so embarrassing that, he'd done exactly the same thing last season and scored. If you even watch the clip again, he got clipped before the shot, so I think he could be forgiven for lacking the power to execute the finish. And this "embarrassing" moment is a damn sight more than Lucas has mustered over the last couple of years. I know technically it was a bit haphazard, while Lucas is Brazilian so he has already earned his nuts on that note, but that's a pretty shoddy criticism. He didn't have the greatest of games but he was by no means one of the worst players out there yesterday, he's just an easy target for you for obvious reasons.

It's modo mate ... he's on a WUM crusade lately, and doing it far better than he has in a long time.

I'm glad I missed the game to play footy ...

Lately?

It seems the in thing, "oh you criticised my favourite player, I'll find someone you've backed before and lay into them". Pathetic stuff. He's been here a long time and still divides opinion, still doesn't hit the heights consistently enough and we still get over-ran season after season in midfield. I don't think it's an isolated game, so questions and criticisms are hardly wide of the mark.

And I don't need to be told by Ryan of all people, one of the most opinionated posters on here, that I've gone to shit, that's some pretty ironic come back right there, given you have to sift through dozens of trolling, attacking posts these days before you find a normal, level-headed, reasonable point.

Gerrard was awful yesterday. He wasn't tracking back nor providing support in attack. The one time he was in and around Arsenal's box (discounting set pieces), he headed the ball to Moses which resulted in a Suarez (?) shot that was narrowly wide.

Sad to see a legend play like that; but I would drop him until he sorts his form out.

Retaliation? So you're taking it personally?
Henderson was fucking shit. Running and harassing players is an admirable trait but he's not good enough to carry an attacking threat and he's not disciplined or skilled tactically to be a defensive midfielder.
Both Gerrard and Lucas are head shoulders above Henderson in their respective positions and I'd pick them over him ten times out of ten, but they both had a bad day against Arsenal.
I said long before the game even started that Henderson is more or less useless in an attacking position.
Every time we had a chance to break, he fucking killed the momentum and when he's got time and space he doesn't know what he's supposed to do with the ball.

I'm not doubting his potential but I'm looking at the present and now that Coutinho is back I really won't mind seeing him on the bench.

Thank God, Victor Moses came on and showed us all how it should be done...

The thing is, Lucas isnt good enough. A good performance against WBA doesnt change that.
We've discussed this to death, but yesterdays performance just highlights it. He's to slow, gets bypassed with ease and offers nothing. We need someone dominant, someone who steps up and doesnt just let the game pass them by. The silly fouls, losing posession easily and being as strong as a 12 year old girl when fighting for the ball.

If someone starts talking about not understanding the game, or not seeing his true worth or how he's the best thing since sliced bread - they can fuck off.

He's not good enough. He wouldnt get into any of the other top 6 teams and that just highlights our problem.
Rodgers is rumoured to be after a quality midfielder in January. And we need it.

Lucas wasnt the only issue though. Our full backs alternatives are not good enough either.

I think, at the very least, there needs to be much more precision to his role. If he's going to be like Pirlo, then surround him with young energetic players who will leave him to concentrate on providing the quality. If he's going to be a second holding player, then concentrate on that. If he's going to help the forwards, concentrate on that. At the moment he's playing deeper but very, very, vaguely, still with the licence to do a bit of everything, and doing a bit of everything just isn't any good at the pace and sloppiness that he's currently doing it. Personally I think he'd be better off playing a game or two back out on the right, where he'd actually provide the forwards with some decent service, but that's not going to happen. But he really needs to clear the cobwebs from his mind, focus, and get back some drive and purpose. At the moment he's a shockingly bad leader and, by his high standards, a very disappointing midfielder.

That's it in a nutshell.

If we're going to continue with 3-5-2 I think we should continue with the 1-2 attacking in midfield instead of 2-1.
Thats what worked so well against WBA and Gerrard looked much better.

That said we've not kept a clean sheet yet with 3 at the back, and we need a solid defensive unit at the back if we are going to stay in the top 4.
I'd consider going back to 4 at the back vs Everton. Against Fulham I'd play 3.

Remember when quite a few whoppers on here referred to him him as 'wonderman' and thought we'd be ace when he came back from injury?

Quite. I'm sure his indifferent form is someone else's fault though, or it's that darn injury.

Next time he has a boss game against Norwich or someone, Ryan & Modo can set us all straight about how dumb we are.

The signs were still there though of what he brings, the passes were clever passes that a fit Coutinho would have pulled off. He's essential to us because his creativity and ability to maintain possession can be a massive difference.

I wasn't knocking him Mark!

Just replying to Modo's original stuff about Henderson offering nothing by saying Victor Moses did. It was a cheap dig at Modos clear preference for black or exotic players.

Yeah I know, I should know better...

I never said that I wanted Moses in that position, but Alberto would be a decent option

I know, I know. Moses is garbage in that role.

Coutinho looked more like him old self in that cameo. He's gonna tear Fulham a new one

Yeah, we sure are doing horribly since he got back. Care to post our win ratio with him in the team compared to when he's not?

Match of the day highlights.

Arsenal's 2nd goal. What the fuck is Henderson doing?

That's a bit of a dim, flawed observation, given we're playing 3 midfielders and we have 4 to choose from. He's invariably going to play because we have no one else.

Well yeah, Lucas moves across to the player drifting in with the ball from their right, commits himself and ends up stood in no mans land. Brilliant attempt there at laying the blame on Modo's new pet hate.

Could you be any more fucking desperate?

Henderson, Toure..... Anyone and everyone probably could have prevented that

Touré is the last line of defence, so I'll excuse him because at least he tried to block it albeit it being too late.
But Henderson, the moment before, just looks like a bystander, why didn't he pick up Ramsey's run?

Didn't notice it yesterday, seriously anyone who thinks that Henderson had a good game is fucking mad.

I agree, but you know, Modo's getting all protective of Lucas as per, and using Henderson as a scapegoat, like I've said a dozen times, neither are top drawer, so I don't know what point he's trying to prove. That Lucas isn't the only shit player we have? Well done.

You've grown from a nice young man into a tiresome cunt Mark.

Try reading my post again, and the one it was in response to. It has nothing to do with why he is playing.

Actually, don't bother.

Same can be said for lucas, difference being lucas was MEANT to be defending but fucked up.

Modo, lucas was as shit as hendo, hendo was as shit as lucas, Gerrard was worse than both of them.

Move on from picking 1 player.

Who said he had a good game? You're acting like a mad cunt, people are saying Lucas had a shit game, try addressing that instead.
