I read somewhere he ran 14km yesterday - that's some engine. It's good to see the lad finally show some end product for all his hard work.
On the other hand, has anyone seen this hyperbolic shambles?....guess what site I got it from?.....
*Fuckin love that play at 0:26. He actually fooled FOUR Chelsea players, with four touches of class.
He's probably thinking "Oh these guys look really desperate to win this ball back. Am I going to bottle it with shite first touch as many in this situation would do?
Nooo. I'm taking perfect first touch to see if Maxi is in position to receive the ball.
Aaah that right back reads the game well and covers Maxi quick enough, fair play to him. I've still managed to get into position for a safe clearance tho, rather than giving the ball away in dangerous position and make a headline. I'm still under such a huge pressure then if I was Carra I'd be praised for kicking the ball out of play now, so why not to just get rid of it? But Carra would lose it with his first touch so that's a moot point anyway. I wanna pass it to a red shirt and move 'cause that's what I do but god I'm trapped in here!
Ok then, I'm taking it back to Paul. He's used to hopeless clearances and that's probably the best option at the moment, and there is an odd chance that he brings Torres, the only available player bar Maxi atm into this move. Hah that lad with number 21 on his back clearly believes those myths about me only passing it backwards. So as Anelka, it seems.
Naaaaah. This guys play they cards right. They're just closing down the only option I have now - our new left back Paul Konchesky. And I have no time to think about what to do mind as I'm being closed down as Zidane in his prime ffs!
I'm sorry but it would be harsh to give the ball back to poor Paul. He's not making a move towards sideline (as I'd do if I was him) where is a little bit of space, so I can only pass it to his right foot, what might turn out to be a total disaster.
So I have to take it to that little bit of empty space myself with my 3rd touch, sending those three guys the wrong way, and I might have fooled that cheeky right back too after I changed direction again.
Oh yes I have. I'm taking 4th touch now. A "support" touch like. I see Maxi available asking for the ball already, but with this little touch I just wanna make sure that right defender doesn't anticipate my idea (if he did he would intercepted it). With this little touch, I see that defender isn't aware of maxi anymore, and with my top close control I can take a quick pass now.
Sure it's not gonna be a world class pass with my left foot, I'm so close to the sideline and still under big pressure as my marker is doing fucking great job, but I know that Maxi's control is actually world class. He'll probably manage it"
Think it was Carling talking about importance of 'knowing what to do with the ball before you actually get it' in Lucas threads. It's very important agreed, and sometimes Lucas looks like he's considering his options AFTER he receives pass. But sometimes you're under immense pressure, in dangerous area, with little or no time to think, and with NO options at all. There was no sensible option for Leiva when he got the ball, he had to create one himself.
What makes a difference between good and top player these days imo is how quickly can a player react to the changes on the pitch, rather than how many moves ahead he thinks (which is good and important too). This little play from Lucas shows how fast his mind is, and how he can synchronize it with his feet. Let alone his reaction, awareness, intelligence and vision with this play. What a player. Love him to bits
