Lucas returns from injury

How many goals have conceded in those games?
How many times has our midfield been overrun?
Lucas will probably not start against Man U, but its not like our midfield has been sublime since he's been gone? You know midfielders are supposed to defend as well.

We've conceded 7 goals in those games. 2 penalties, 2 own goals and some mistakes.
We also played our two best games of the season during those 6 games, Arsenal and Everton.
The last game he started we conceded 3 goals.
When he got injured we had played 22 and conceded 28. Now its 28 and 35. Big difference?

As I said, he'll be an important player for us in the run in. Starting a few games when we need him and coming in off the bench.

He came into the Villa game as a sub I think.

I never said the same 11 players play every week ... but considering the current form of the middle 3 (those who haven't been rested - Gerrard, Hendo (bar injury) & Coutinho), I think it was a fair question to ask!

I don't agree with DB's stance as he will play if we get an injury, or suspension. He can still play an important role in the run in.

Gerrard started the Villa game.

Stop saying we've got 16 points from 18 with him as a DM. It's untrue.

Luckily those brain cells include common decency and respect. I'm guessing you outgrew those cells at birth eh?

You type one thing, then completely contradict it 1 page later, and have the nerve to suggest I'm clueless.

If you can't take being called a moron for that, then fuck off.

The two goals against Villa?

He got injured in that game but was available. I'm talking about the 6 games he's been out.
I'm starting to actually dislike Lucas just because of these threads.
Available to see two goals being scored from the bench.

I think @Mersey86 was spot in this post. Even though it didn't have anything to do with Lucas.

You say that our form is great. I say that our form is sporadic and our results are great. I think there's a difference. Unbeaten in 7 in 2014, but of those 7 - the first 25 minutes v Villa was the worst I have EVER seen a Liverpool team play (2 nil down really flattered us), and we were not good enough to get a winner in the last half hour - they looked as likely as we did. Against West Brom we looked toothless and short of ideas. We played Swansea a couple of days after they had a tough European fixture, were fortunate to survive a sloppy start, and then gave away a 2-goal lead. Southampton we were outplayed for the majority of the first half. Fulham, for goodness sake, were beating us with 20 minutes left.
I think I'm one of the most positive posters on here. I like to find the good signs - when they are there. If we can play like we did against Arsenal or Everton (first-half) or Southampton second half then we're going to have a happy end-of-season. But I'd like to see the "good" Liverpool more consistently.

[hl]16 points in 18 games Modo[/hl]. That's all that matters.

I guess that's not good enough for people who put players over teams though ... How very Danish of you!

I think we're going to need to do considerably better than that if we have any real top four ambitions, yet alone title ambitions.

Will be interesting to see how he fits in. You never know, we might see Sterling dropped to bench with Coutinho in a wide role and a trio of Gerrard, Lucas and Hendo in the middle.

Gerrard won't get dropped as he is contributing to out attacking play v well (via set pieces and some great recent assists) but I do think that Lucas adds a lot to our game.

His inclusion on the bench will also likely force Coutinho to continue being a Duracell bunny in midfield knowing that a drop in workrate would see Lucas a greater option.

Since Lucas got injured sir ...

@King Binny - what is our point per game with Gerrard at DM and point per game with him playing elsewhere?

That is a bit of a lazy statistic as obviously we have had a great run of results since Gerrard took that role.

However, I part of that is the fact we are scoring shitloads, and that is also because Gerrard is now NOT a part of the front 5. Suarez, Sturridge, Sterling, Coutinho and Henderson are smashing it as a group. Yes, quite a few of our goals have come from Gerrard penos or set pieces but I would be more interested in seeing stats like shots conceded per game Lucas, vs Stevie and number of individual errors with Lucas in front of the back 4 and Gerrard in front of the back 4.

There are arguments both ways that with Lucas we would on paper concede less but with Gerrard we would score more so there is a big trade off.

Massive headache for Rodgers once he has to fit all of Coutinho, Hendo, Allen, Gerrard and Lucas into his plans.

I can't remember who it was against but I remember we had a dominating performance in midfield with a trio of Lucas, Allen and Hendo which I wouldn't be surprised to see again.

Ha ha ha world of your own Ryan. You really need to manage all that rage

That's a big if. But I like your thinking. Who cares if we concede many goals as long as we're winning, I mean its not like its ever gonna go wrong for us.
We have the fire power to out score each remaining team.
I would say we have more of risk of dropping points by changing a side who have been winning without him.

Gerrard started the Villa game.

Stop being pedantic, you know full well what his point is. We've done well enough in his absence, only a "fucking moron" would argue otherwise (weren't you complaining last week about being insulted, and didn't I point to your treatment of DB? Oh.).

And yes, Lucas does have a part to play and will play games in the run in, unquestionably, but our recent form (lets not pretend we haven't lost/drawn games with Lucas at DM) suggests there's life without his fantastic, unnoticed contribution.

There was life without Suarez, Sturridge, Gerrard etc. That doesn't meam they didn't slot straight back in when they were back.

We should play the best team possible. That means, once fully fit, Lucas will be starting some if not all games, whether people like it or not.

But who do you drop? Gerrard wont be dropped. So do you push him forward or do you push Lucas forward?
Lucas will have a part to play either coming of the bench or playing in some games were he's needed.

Depends on the game. Any of Allen, Sterling or Coutinho and possibly others.

If Lucas is to replace someone that will defo be Allen...I would play Henderson-Gerrard-Coutinho/ Sterling-Sturridge-Suarez..that has been our best team so far

Ahem (clears throat) ......

Ladies and Gentlemen ......

Lucas Leiva ...

... is fucking shit!
(Rapturous applause ... to close).
