Liverpool's dramatic 1-0 injury-time win over Aston Villa was overshadowed by an injury scare involving England defender Glen Johnson.

The 25-year-old right-back came off in the 89th minute with a suspected knee injury and left the ground on crutches.

"We don't know, we have to do a scan - maybe he has a problem with his knee," said manager Rafael Benitez.

Johnson has already missed three games with a calf problem as Liverpool have endured an injury-plagued campaign.

Liverpool's winner was scored by Fernando Torres, who has been hampered by a groin injury this season.

Benitez revealed the Spanish striker, whose injury-time winner resulted in him overtaking Roger Hunt as the quickest Liverpool player to reach 50 league goals (in 72 games) for the club, has more recently been troubled by an ankle injury.

"Fernando has had some problems with his ankle more than his groin and he has been working very hard with the fitness coach and the physio," added Benitez.

"It depends on how he feels - in terms of how many games he can play - but against Villa he was OK.

"We will have to assess things and see what happens. We will leave it with him but we need to keep him fit for the remainder of the season. That is the important thing."

Benitez says he is surprised by the furore which has greeted his statement that Liverpool will finish in the top four this season.

The victory over Villa took them to seventh in the Premier League, four points behind Tottenham who are in fourth place.

"What else am I going to say? What other answer can I give? I have to be the first one to believe and I have to make the players believe," he said.

"People say I am putting pressure on them. What else am I supposed to do? I am the manager.

"It is important for us to keep Torres and Gerrard fit.

"If they stay fit and can play in most of the games remaining for us then we have a very good chance."

Carefully Step up Degen!

Slight amendment needed there Whizz

If, IF, Degen can stay fit I am not too worried. Johnson needed a break to get his head straight anyways.
Blessing in disguise.

Its 10 days until we meet Spurs, if he twisted his knee he'll be alright before then.
It didnt look like it was to bad, and he walked off the pitch. Strained his ligaments maybe.

Kelly should start against Reading, if he's fit.

Glen Johnson is facing up to three months on the sidelines after injuring his knee in Liverpool's victory over Aston Villa. The England right-back was forced off late on in the 1-0 win after damaging the medial ligament in his right leg and was assessed by the club's medical team at Melwood today (Wednesday).

A club spokesman said: 'A scan today has revealed a tear in the medial ligament in Glen's right knee. The player will see a specialist tomorrow, after which we should be able to more accurately determine the length of his rehabilitation period.'

This could be Kelly Skrtel's chance.

Hopefully he's fit enough to take it.

Anyone know of any pregnant horses?

I asked and she said no.

Seems a silly question but how is Degen's fitness now? Will he manage one game?
I imagine if not we'll see Skrtel come in.

On the subject of Glen Johnson though I went to buy a new toilet seat earlier (rock n roll lifestyle I lead) and went to the same shop that he got nicked for stealing one from. Just occured to me.

Oh FFS ! When are we going to stop having this terrible run of injuries to important players. Un-fucking-believable.

Well using Skrtel or Kelly at RB might add to some defensive solidity, allowing us to reel off a load of 1-0 wins. Magic has been a revelation but we have never looked as defensively weak and vunerable.

Agree

Yossi has to play on the right now

We all know he won't drop Dirk though. His first touch last night was appauling, but Rafa always looks beyond that for some reason.

We could push Kuyt up top with Torres with Glen RW. It would mean Yossi back out on the left though.

*Goes Back to drawing board*

I said earlier that Dirks shite touch nearly got us a pen. I think Dunne was distracted as to what the fuck he was doing with the ball and clattered him

His first touch is so bad his second is a tackle/header/chest etc.

Ray Houghton and Oyvind Lehonaraaaaaardssson (you know who) in one body

I've heard criticism of Ray Houghton before. Was he really so bad?
I was only about 12 when he left but from what I remember he was useful enough wasn't he?

His control was that bad he would have to go around in a 20 yard circle before he got it under control.
