Liverpool's Glen Johnson suffers suspected knee injury

Turning out to be a very poor sigining for 18 m 🙁

I really like Glen but when his confidence is down he's a woeful defender and doesn't attack enough.

When on form he really is magic but we ain't going to see that now for some time.

What now Degan? Kelly? Darby? Carragher?

Kelly is due back to full training in a fortnight so it is Degen or Cara on the right vs Spurs

3 months is bollocks though.

Grade 1 tear, it's 1-2 weeks

Grade 2 tear, it's 3-4 weeks

And if its a complete tear it's 6-8 weeks

I highely doubt he has a compete tear. But it's all specualting, as no one knows until he's been to a specialist tomorrow. I'm guessing 3-4 weeks.

Why is it only the likes of Agger, Torres, Gerrard and Magic that seem to get lengthy injuries?
[/quote]

Agger is just a big sick note, the others get tackled or make more tackles than anybody else.

They are in the firing line all the time.

The price of being fantastic.

Just when we're about to get back key players from on-off injuries, this had to happen. Carra-Skrtel-Agger-Aurelio looks the safer bet for more defensive approach. Degen should be able to fill in against decent clubs. Can't see Rafa 'daring' enough to play 2 young players in the likes of Insua and Kelly in a back 4 at the same time.

I would hope Kelly is ahead of Darby in the pecking order after his display in the CL - he should be anyways.

Skrtel put in one of the most inept performances I've ever seen at RB, so I'd rather not see him there ever again. It has to be one of Degen or Carra.

Kelly is of course before Darby but he won't be fit enough straight away.

Carra isn't going to play there any amount of times (sorry about that if seen before edit). Masch when he's back can of course play there. I don't like the idea of Degen besides against Weaker teams but he still has inspired more confidence then i had.

And of course I meant against a weak opposition if we still are keeping clean sheets; Then I would want to try Darby again. He has a composed steady eddy component. A la Arbeloa and Finnan.

It will be Carra at right back vs Spurs. Hopefully Kelly can feature against Reading.

Well using Skrtel or Kelly at RB might add to some defensive solidity, allowing us to reel off a load of 1-0 wins. Magic has been a revelation but we have never looked as defensively weak and vunerable.

Agree

Yossi has to play on the right now

Only a fool would want to see Skirtel at RB, the worst RB I have ever seen, joke...

Jesus christ, surely degen will play at right back. Surely hes done enough to suggest he is a capable replacement for glenjo. He looks very accomplished going forward as far as i can see. Not so sure defensively, but no difference there with johnson.

I hope you are not suggesting I am a fool Rubans
I don't have to justify it, but for the record......I agree that Johnson has been good going forward, but it has left us weaker defensively, hence my comment about Yossi.
You may be right of course, but only a fool would judge a player on one and a half outings as right-back.

According to the Echo he's out for a month. So Rafa might have to rethink the selling Degen business..

at least a month, with Kelly injured it would be daft to sell Degan now

Only if you are suggesting Skirtel should be playing RB. He may have had only a 90 or so minutes as a RB back but clearly doesn't suit him. You don't need 90 games to see that.
Right now, he doesn't even look like CB, don't see how playing him in a position suit him can help his confidence.
Back to topic, don't think it's Johnson's fault in particular we have looked weak defensively anyway, problems seem to stem from none of CBs looking paricularly strong in addition to a LB who seems to need a LW who will track back in order to justify his place.

We'll need Masher back at CM whenever he returns, because if Lucas and Aquilani were very average the other night.

Hopefully Carragher can fill in at RB for 1 match and then Kelly can step in.

I'd be tempted to go with Darby.

He's not good enough, I'm afraid.

We've won 2 games out of 2 with Aqua/Lucas. And keept 2 clean sheets.

Am I the only one that sees a much more attacking side with Aqua in the side? Getting Mascher is great, but it HAS to be at the expence of Lucas. Who I thought was excellent against Villa by the way.

Aqualani has to play, midfield at least seems to keep possession more and the only way Aqualani will get better is by consistently playing. I think he has been steady and can get better with games.

That's true, but you can't completely ignore the context in which those victories and clean sheets were achieved.

Whilst Aqui started well, everyone was fearing the worst until the Wolves player got sent off, and we hardly controlled the Villa game. I actually thought Villa were going to take the 3 points in injury time but the ball bumbled through to Torres and that was that.

Neither were good enough midfield performances for our club.

Drop Lucas for Masher when he returns. At least we know Lucas is shit.
