considering we haven't won on the first day of the season for 5 yrs that was very important . But it's ridiculous how nothing changes , we HAVE to take these decent half chances we always get or you're going to be putting yourself under pressure at the end .

People in charge of the Soccernet tables jumped the gun a bit when we conceded a pen

We needed this soooooooo much!

3 points. I feel as if we've just won a cup final.

Bit heart-in-the-mouth at times, pretty nervy finish especially with the pen, but that was a very encouraging start.

We fucking murdered them 1-0

Fuck me what a nervy last 20 mins. We definitely bought the wrong keeper but who cares we are top of the table, kept a clean sheet and our new signings have added to the team.

As much as could have hoped for 37 more 1-0's please

Liverpool have secured only two points and scored just one goal in their last four Barclays Premier League meetings with Stoke City (D2 L2).

The Potters have lost only two of their 10 Barclays Premier League meetings with Liverpool (W3 D5).

Stoke have never scored a Premier League goal at Anfield, despite playing there five times.
Three of the previous five Premier League games between these two sides at Anfield have ended 0-0.

Considering these, the late penalty that could've cost us 2 points, good debuts (clean sheet for Toure, Mignolet, pen save for Mignolet, assists for Aspas) and 3 points in the bag, I'm just going to enjoy this nervy victory. 😀

We looked good and in total control for 65 minutes (well, a couple of Mignolet mistakes aside...) and should have had it sealed by then.
We didn't manage to score number 2 and let them gradually come back into it, making it a nervous finish and that penalty save.
Anyway, we won it and deserved the win. Let's keep it going.

Aspas looked good, but I'm still unconvinced by his finishing.

His link up play and running off the ball is ace though

It's a great thing when it goes your way, we know how shit it feels when it goes wrong.

Exactly its happened far too often and I was just waiting for them to score!!!
What a matcher winner our new keeper is!
Early jitters but fuck me what an ending. He has well and truly made his Anfield début.

Typical Liverpool, played some lovely stuff, missed a shitload of chances making it a very uncomfortable last 15 mins or so.

But fuck it we won. Good start

We seemed to run out of steam in the second half. If you're going to start off with that much energy you kinda need to get a couple goals and make sure the opposition are deflated by the time you tire.

We were by far the better side but usual profligacy in front of goal and dodginess at the back still evident.

After one game which we won, and in which he saved a pen and kept a clean sheet. You have come to the conclusion that we have signed the wrong keeper.

Nice one Pat

Yep.
Coutinho seems to always fade from the 70th minute onwards and that's where we need a quality bench.

That was a great game. How many times though does the opposition keeper get the MOM though against us? 😵

1 - The last time Liverpool won on the opening day (1-0 v Sunderland in 2008-09) they went on to finish as runners-up.

Great result, the nature of the win will boost confidence too.

I feel fucking relieved.

MOM Mignolet. He won us the game.

Lucas was immense.

Sturridge was a constant threat.

Anybody notice that classic Stoke moment where Begovic is waiting to pick the ball up in an empty box, and Huth(?) just runs up and hoofs it to high heaven?

Sturridge won us the game, that would have been 0-0 at Xmas otherwise.
Mignolet was heading for a poor debut until the pen save.
Lucas was average first half, completely anonymous second.
Other than that, as you were.
