That's why I like Ibe, he's more direct.

Personally, I just think Raheem was trying to impress us/Rodgers considering his limited minutes since the middle of last season. More psychological than anything else if you ask me, Raheem will eventually learn to stick to his strengths. The rest will come with time.

He does really seem hungry for minutes though, I wouldn't mind sending him on loan if that's what it takes to let him figure out his game.

Just watched the game via tivo, I have to ask is the tattoo on Pennant"s neck a marijuana leaf? It resembled one but I could not tell for sure.

Great to get a win in the first game and all in all it was a good performance.

Mignolet was a bit dodgy at times but two great saves.

Johnson had a very good game both attacking and defensively.

Agger couldn't win a header to save his life.

Toure was a beast and will quickly become a crowd favourite.

Enrique also had a solid game.

Gerrard was too quiet for me. Quite a few times in the second half when we were breaking forward he offered no support and just sat back with Lucas.

Lucas was great first half, not so much second half and again gave away needless fouls in dangerous positions. I can't fathom how people can consider him for Man Of The Match.

Henderson was busy throughout, the only one of the 3 central midfielders to get forward regularly and with better finishing could have bagged two or three goals. I'm glad he started instead of Allen and think he should do going forward.

A bright start from Sturridge and a well taken goal but thought for most of the game his play was sloppy, giving the ball away too much.

Coutinho had a great game again, should have scored with his run on goal in the second half. I felt he tried to overdo things at times, reminded me of Suarez trying to knock the ball off opponents to get a break but he was the main creative spark.

Aspas works tirelessly and looks a more productive option than Borini.

I can't help feel that the problems of last season are still there though. I didn't feel comfortable throughout the game, we missed numerous chances to put us out of sight, the defence looked nervous and the midfield wasn't imposing enough with Stoke walking through us.

That said, Stoke are a horrible team to play against and a win is a win. The reaction of the players and crowd to the penalty save was great.

We really lacked an on-field leader last 20 min, someone to clam us down, retain possession and just stop us acting like a mess and keep it simple.

Nice summary Sheik.
Pretty much agree with every word you said.
You are a bit harsh on Lucas I think as he was our best player in the first half,
I think the change of formation at half time from 4-2-3-1 to 4-3-3, while tightening the wings a bit, allowed the Stoke midfield to play through us centrally more easily.
Definitely something that needs addressing

What a coincidence, I also ate Pizza afterwards...

I think this is a big statement from Rodgers ... Henderson has earned his spot after his play last year, and he should be starting ahead of Allen ...

MOTD highlights with some nice analysis of the link-up play between Sturridge and Coutinho near the end:

Don't forget to select the highest quality when watching.

What are they fucking prison pizza!? Whats with those boxes?
Bet he has the shits today.

It's going to take a while to get used to Brendan's new teeth. They remind me of these ones:

Anyway, he's had a great pre-season and the team play now with more purpose than they did last season. If we can just get a good run of results now everyone will get the confidence that's the last element required.

Ha, yes! Watches seem to be the new boots in terms of sponsorship. Woy is right in there with Hublot:

I like that those people wear massive horrible expensive watches. Huge bellend alert. Instant 'move to the other end of the bar' warning.
