I wouldn't buy anything from Smithdown Road, it's fucking grim.

1. Average Pitch Position
2. Henderson's passing
3. Henderson's heat map

• The 3 attackers all show a fairly central position because there was plenty movement and floating hence there is no distinctive pitch position.

• Lucas & Gerrard's heat maps showed they worked the midfield (left & right at times) but were largely central.

•However, its Henderson's role that interested me. If he was not going to be the apex of the midfield and was going to play on one side of the midfield, I thought it would be left. However, he was very distinctly on the right. Perhaps the thinking was that with Aspas and Sturridge switching so much on that side of the pitch and being their 1st time playing together then there was potential for it not to work and therefore having someone permanently stationed on the right would provide balance if Sturridge and Aspas didn't make it work on that side when switching.

@Rory Fitzgerald
Can you break the heat maps for Henderson into first and second Haves Rory?
He seemed to be playing a little more withdrawn in the second half but was more effective I think.
Thanks.

@Binny, can you please provide any stats or chalkboards for Lucas's performance today? Tackles, passing %, forward passes, 50/50 challenges, etc

Thanks 🙂

Passing Accuracy: 84% (64/76)

You will be gaining Binny status soon.

Maps seem to bear out what I said about Henderson being more withdrawn in the second half

I was quite surprised to see a Union Jack being waved in the Kop, even though it had the LFC crest in it's middle.
I know they were a fairly common sight during the seventies but I thought with the whole "We are Scouse, not English" they wouldn't have been particularly welcome.
It was probably a cockney waving it I suppose.

Just saying, we seemed to be running on empty the last 10-15 minutes.
To be fair we worked like cunts for 80 minutes whereas Stoke just held their ground. We were running on empty because we were bollocksed. Only for Begovic we would have had the game wrapped up a lot sooner, which would have allowed us to take our foot of the gas. But obviously being only 1 goal ahead meant we needed to go for a 2nd. And that's what I loved about us yesterday. We never sat back. We kept pushing for another one.

To be honest, even if we got the second, I don't think this team will ever step off the gas and continued to get 5 or goals. Damn that pesky Begovic...

Fuck me what a nervy last 20 mins. We definitely bought the wrong keeper but who cares we are top of the table, kept a clean sheet and our new signings have added to the team.

As much as could have hoped for 37 more 1-0's please

What a moron.

You're probably right, we were pressuring them the entire game.
I was a bit surprised that Allen didn't come on for the last 10.

Indeed. In fact, now that I think about it, why the fuck didn't he made a substitution in injury time?

Because he had a good game against us.

Apparently Dreamy was overheard muttering about the Liverpool way or something

I chalk Mingolet's early nerves to just that, his nerves on the biggest stage of his sporting life so far. Would only be a real concern if he continues like this 5 to 10 games in. Bergovic would probably have a similar showing if the gloves were on the other hand, so to speak.

Was finally able to watch the whole game last night and I do think that our set piece wobbles in the game were a serious concern. Of course, it was like playing a team from the land of the giants. Stoke are a massive side. In the pre-game handshake it looked like an u-12 team was preparing to play against men. Nevertheless, there are a number of teams who'll play exactly like Stoke did, hoping to soak up pressure against us and snatch something via a set-piece or through pumping balls in and hoping for a break. Despite our sometimes exquisitely executed attacking play we could very easily have dropped points. We need to work much harder on our defensive organisation to avoid dropping points against the Stokes and West Hams this year.
