No you wasn't alone Kris, just like Fabio and whoever wasn't alone in his criticisms. But heaven behold - Modo and Rurik agree with you. You must be right!

What's your point? Are we really criticising a defender for fucking up a chance infront of goal? I saw him volley a harder chance in not so long ago, no one was calling him the thinking mans footballer then either.

As for the bounce for Anelka, he stayed with the player and the ball was just fractionally too high for him to reach, he made a decision to stay with the player who could easily have gotten further away from him had he decided to move away and try to read the bounce - an another day that would have been more costly.

And if Agger had made that clearance that went through to Sturridge for the chance against the bar, we'd have had it rammed down our throats.

I just want to say for the record that I think Agger is definitely not without his weaknesses and last season him and Skrtel were equally mediocre. But the Dane seemed to be playing better at the start of the season with Toure and I'd like him being given another chance. I don't think dropping Sakho or Toure is conceivable at this point.

It'd be interesting to see, I think 3 at the back is clearly here for the time being, which is ok, but it's sort of costing us in some games because we're not packing the midfield well and we're inviting pressure at times. It'd have to be Sakho and Agger, with Skrtel & Toure battling it out for the right handed spot. I don't think any combination from the four, particularly as a back three, particular strengthens or weakens us, I do think Sakho is stronger in the air though.

The hypocrisy on here is mind boggling at times. I said he wasn't AMAZING. How dared I??

Fabio then asked me if I couldn't see I was wrong now that three posters on here agreed that Skrtel was amazing. Why didn't you have a go at him then?

Instead, once again, you tried to make me look a biased fool with all the anger you could possible muster. Rambling about Eriksen, ITK's post from me in the past, posting a long agressive post in a thread that was locked etc. etc.

You have become quite a joke in this regard. You never listen you always go" Angry Mark" attacking the poster.

Maybe I am the only one who sees this as well?

It fucks me right of that we can never have a normal, serious footy debate without all the aggressive and patronising posts on here.

Re our defence, as I've said earlier we're 3 1 0 in the 4 games Agger has missed. Why should we change a winning team? We've played 9 games so far with 29 games to go, he'll get more than enough games.

Agger is our best centre back technically and I think he's most suited to be playing in the middle of our back 3. But Skrtel has done well and shouldnt be dropped. So Agger just needs to work hard and be ready when he gets the chance again. Just like Skrtel has been ready to take his chance.
There is nothing given about Agger just walking into a team thats winning.

Now you know how I feel. But I'm usually right in the end. So don't worry.

Downing, Adam, Aquilani, Dos Santos, Adam Johnson just to mention a few.
😉

Kris, sit down there and tell Uncle Localny everything. Let's start with your latent hostility towards Martin, and your Agger abandonment issues.

It annoys me how agger is such a hot button topic.

He's a good defender. People just argue whether he's the type of defender we need.

He has lapses in places Skrtel wouldn't, and Skrtel lapses in places agger wouldn't.

I'd drop Skrtel when his form goes and bring agger in. And vice versa.

It's the hair.

Where is it??

No hair no flair. Zidane being the exception to the rule.

PS Skrtel have been mostly good this Season imo.

Surely it is between Agger and Sakho?

I thought so too. But now I'm curious how Agger would look playing in the middle with 2 more physically imposing CBs on both sides. That might work very nicely, actually. Maybe Lucas and Gerrard will not need to drop deep to get the ball as often. We need a player who is really really good at bringing the ball out of defense, because Mignolet is a big step down from Reina in that department (but he is step up at shot-stopping which is much more important).

Depends.

Who's the central of the 3? I'd imagine it's Skrtel as he's quite good with the last ditch stuff and he seemed more central against wba. Agger could flourish in that position providing Sakho and Kolo are either side, covering for his forays forward

I thought Skrtel together with Cissokho was our weakest player yesterday. I have no idea why some people put him in their top 3. I counted at least 5 major mistakes within first 50 minutes of the game:

10th minute - could have given away a penalty. Martin was quite blatantly pulling the shirt of Anichebe for 2-3 seconds - fortunately the ref missed it.
27th minute - comical miss from a Gerrard cut back after a Suarez free-kick.
39th minute - a weak defensive header right into the feet of a West Brom player on the edge of the penalty area. Lucas sweeps up.
45th minute - misjudges the flight of the long pass to Anelka and lets him receive the ball 1 on 1 with the keeper. Anelka fails to capitalize with his first touch and then Skrtel recovers in time to clear the ball
Around 50th minute - again almost gives away a penalty. He tackled McAuley strongly from behind after a corner but managed to touch the ball as well. Another ref (especially in Europe) could have given it.

Overall, I think after a scintillating start to the season, Skrtel is gradually cooling off and returning to his usual level - a decent defender, but too rash to be a consistent starter for a top team. Rodgers will definitely stick with 3 at the back for the Arsenal game, but I would like to see how Agger would do with Toure and Sakho on either side of him.

The lack of consistent build-up from the back is still our major weakness. It was not noticeable against West Brom because Clarke's team wanted to stay compact and didn't pressure us high up the pitch - Rory's preview has been spot on once again. But most teams in the league like to pressure high up the pitch and whenever they do, it causes us problems. I think we miss Agger, Allen, Coutinho and, in the attacking phase, Reina.
Have a look at Binny's post with stats from our 5 defenders from the game and tell me again that Skrtel wasn't the best defender on show.

No you said he was our weakest defender which is rubbish.
