Liverpool v Olympiacos: Stevie Testimonial

He is a defensive midfielder in my opinion. He's great in the air and get's forward well, so if you've mostly seen him in highlights then I understand why you'd think he played a more attacking role.

Madrid is on the TV more than any team here bar Barca ... and so I've watched him plenty ... Alas, I'm not really that fussed. I can only hope you people prove us wrong, and continue to watch more footy than us 101gg addicts!

I didn't mean that in a condescending manner. Maybe I am wrong, but I always saw him as a defensive midfielder.
Anyway, I don't really care much about the lesser Sami, and the comparison is probably taking me on a tangent.

I do however love Lucas, and honestly think he has grown into a very, very good player and will continue to improve.

I hope you are right sir ... I saw him in that game against City live when he was phenomenal, but I've not seen that enough to think he's a 'very, very good player.' I hope he proves me wrong but I this year - as I think Andy said in another thread - is key for him

Yeah, I suppose the way we view his history shows that we will probably never be calibrated in our opinion of him. Unless he plays as he did in that City game every single week I guess.

His detractors seem to talk about the "2 or 3 games" he was was good as if it was some sort of anomaly. He was 3rd in Mors' player of the season votes the year before that.

To be 'great' as a DM - especially as an 'all out defensive midfielder' (which is what we ask of him) - you have to be like Mkalele was. He was basically fantastic every game. He did every little thing right almost every game. He made Madrid great. He made Chelsea great. He made France great. I don't know if Lucas is capable of doing that conistently because he's prone to those silly fouls, and unfortunately, got injured just as it seemed he was on his 'curve upward' (i.e. taking the next step). Ross said it would take him a year to get back to himself ... so let's hope that's he's now ready to get back on that curve and do what he did in quite a few games (sorry, that city game just stands out as I was there and because he was so damn impressive against Yaya Toure, which very few players have been or will be) before his injury at Stamford Bridge (where I was too!)

He's on top of the curve already, 'cos he was always ahead of it. Recuperated ahead of schedule, and back on his game ahead of schedule.

'cos that's how Wonderman do.

Let's chat again about this in 6 months.

Just watched the entire video. Those are not highlights, it's every touch he made in the game.
With the risk of sounding like a cunt, I'm gonna go ahead and say that if you watch that and don't recognise how good his positioning and his vision is, then you don't know football.
To say that we need steel in midfield, like a big fuck off Tioté who runs over people in midfield is a bit lazy. I'd pick an intelligent player like Lucas every time.

The goals we scored yesterday basically came from two interceptions he made.
I'm sure you were one of the people saying this a few months ago? Regardless, I agree and have always said the same, we need classy and composed players in the middle who can read the game (one reason I really wanted Alonso back) we don't need no shit brick house, Lucas at his best is perfect for that role.

Has Ayre changed wives or has she just dyed her hair?

Fuck me, she's horrific.

I'm envisaging some news stories about him with some attractive young ladies in the near future.

With that at home there's no way he's not getting his end away elsewhere.

Anyone see the pass to Suarez where he started applauding before the ball even reached him? Not sure who played it, but it was excellent.

Has a reason been given as to why Suarez didn't attend the dinner?

a) he's the devil
b) he's a cunt
c) he's a maggot
d) his wife is seriously preggers
e) he lied about his wife being pregnant
f) it's a cultural thing
g) went for a bite at the local Serbian felafel stand

(Let him go!) Bismillah! We will not let you go.

(Never, never, never let me go) Ah.
No, no, no, no, no, no, no.
