Aspa is going to be the surprise success, he's the new Dirk Kuyt in my books, hard working, determined, end product and funny looking.

Dirk had the first touch of a rapist though. Aspas' is more like Casanova's.

An improved Dirk in many ways, he seems to have a clever brain like Dirk did, and that's good too watch!

Dirk was ginger though, Aspas will never have that quality.

Yes I said quality, big whoop, wanna fight about it?

CHRIS: Mmmm, Nanny...
WIFE: Nani? He's not playing, you silly old fool!
DAUGHTER: Now you know what we discussed, Daddy - no singing, no matter how many requests you make.
CHRIS: *sigh* Nanny...
WIFE: Oh gawd, he's in a world of his own!

Just watching the game now on LFCTV.

We look superb. Aspas is a cracking addition. Hopefully Allen and Lucas keep this form up too. We look a lot better balanced.

My thoughts...

Aspas looks very good, clever, sharp, full of flicks and tricks and works hard, good signing, be interesting to see how his finishing is in the coming season.

If Joe Allen learns how to finish, he could be dangerous for us in an advanced position, gets in the right places.

Coutinho was brilliant, carried on from where he left off last season, creative, direct and he got skillz. I love him.

I like how we press up the pitch and force mistakes, also nice to see Johnson and Enrique pressing so high up the pitch.

Sterling did well, people seem to forget how young he is, and that he has so much to learn yet.

For someone who hasn't seen many pre-season games, the first time I saw Mignolet in action was the dodgy little punch from the cross, i'm hoping it was a one off and he's a solid keeper.

All in all, we played well for a friendly, we have a mostly, young, hungry, exciting and creative side.

Loads of reasons to be positive, I for one can't wait for the season to start.

That was one of the nightmare inducing photos and now you've went and given it some dialogue! How will I sleep tonight?

I know Sterling's young but he's always experienced a kind of 'brain freeze' when he gets into a good position. He's been like that since the youth team days and it's just a bit frustrating he hasn't improved in that sense. I'm sure he can, but he really needs to improve his decision-making and release the ball quicker when he gets into these positions.

I think it will come with time and experience playing at the top level, he's 17 and had half a season in the Premiership, there's still good things to come from him.

He'll be 19 in 4 months.

He showed he had the potential to make good decisions when he broke into the first team at the beginning of last season. I think much of it with Sterling is mentality rather than a lack of footballing intelligence. We've seen it again now in pre-season where he's eager to impress and thinks he can get away with it.

I'm hoping that over time in the Premiership - much like with guys like Ronaldo - he'll just end up figuring out that to progress to the next level he needs to take a step back and think more rather than relying on his own hype to take him all the way.

It's really unfortunate for most of SCM that Lucas is looking very very good.

Fingers crossed he turns to shit so you all don't look like dicks eh.

Yes. That injury was always going to take some time to get over properly. With a full pre-season under the belt this could be a great year for Wonderman.

Well yes, true, but I think he needs plenty of work playing one-touch football in training. Yesterday, when a great run was being made past him, he delayed and then passed back; when nothing was on in front of him, he hit the ball forwards into a defender's shins; and when he had the ball in the area he only looked up when a defender was in at his feet. I'm not saying it's a long-term problem but he should be beyond that by now. Ibe is much better at it and he's had far less time to learn.

Just watched the entire video. Those are not highlights, it's every touch he made in the game.
With the risk of sounding like a cunt, I'm gonna go ahead and say that if you watch that and don't recognise how good his positioning and his vision is, then you don't know football.
To say that we need steel in midfield, like a big fuck off Tioté who runs over people in midfield is a bit lazy. I'd pick an intelligent player like Lucas every time.

The goals we scored yesterday basically came from two interceptions he made.

Where does this Lucas love come from? I've always liked him, as have plenty of others, but why have you suddenly turned into his major cheerleader?? Are you trying to impress someone???

I think lucas can get back to that great form he showed pre injury, but the one worry I have above all others are those free kicks he gives away.

Most are needless & they did cost us a lot in terms of possession, momentum, & possibly a few points along the way.
