Leicester Pre Match Thread (H)

There's another thread. They need merging.

However since this is top of the pile at the moment :

I can't see Klopp moving away from the direction he's wanted us to go in all season, control and possession. The RB slot is a definite issue with TAA and Joe out, Klopp has played CBs as FBs before (hasn't he also moved a couple of Matip, Lovren and VvD to fill in on occasion ?) so with 3 available that's another option but not necessary for this game, or he could go three at the back. Again can't see him changing formation.

It is however a good game to let Camacho play, but since he's not a natural RB and since that would put senior players on the bench, not going to happen either. With Hendo, Gini and Keita all available I reckong that'll be his midfield three with Fabs at RB, he can't be that bad for stamina & pace with 105 games there ! And it could be good for holding up Vardy who likes to come in off his left and also restrain Chilwell, he's clearly our best option at RB. He'll want Gini in the middle to help negate Maddison and Choudrey.

-----------------Alisson

Fabs---Matip---Van Dijk----Robbo

-----------------Hendo
--------Gini----------------Keita

Salah---------Firmino------------Mane

Subs: Mignolet, Lovren, Camacho, Lallana, Shaqiri, Sturridge, Origi

Fabinho is Brazils right back, I’m fairly certain, faaaairly certain, that he can play a game there for us...

How many games did Milner play at LB before Klopp made him our starting left-back for a season? There are many factors in play, but I know for a fact that Klopp often looks for specific qualities he likes in a given position over experience. And for a full-back in Klopp's system, Hendo seems to me much more suitable than any other CM we have (bar Milner, obviously). Fabinho's experience might still outweigh this (or he might trust Camacho or even Hoever), but I'm surprised no one other than me even considers Hendo as an option – I'm sure he is for Klopp.

Yes, which attributes would you say he has in common with Trent or Robbo?

Well, for a start, as indicated above, he plays RB for Brazil - a nation that prides itself on its attacking full backs down the generations.

If that's not enough, he's quick across the ground and has outstanding stamina. So...

Only 7 games in friendlies though (4 of them starts), he was never a serious competition for Dani Alves or others and this doesn't mean he's in any way in a similar mould. Even his body type is totally different. I think he can make it back to the selecao as a CM if he continues playing well for us.

He plays RB for Brazil as a stopgap, not as first choice. Yes hes quick but like alot of tall players its only once he gets into his stride, he doesn't have anything like the acceleration of Trent from a dead start.

Its not defensively Id be concerned its more that he wouldnt really offer any threat down the flank and it would nullify a key part of our attack.

Henderson at right back is an interesting idea, and I agree with your reasoning both on why he would work there, and why Fabinho might not, however we can't ignore the fact that Fabinho plays there for Brazil, and spent most of his career playing there. It's really odd, because watching him play in the middle, I can only imagine him being another Cissokho at full back, he just looks all wrong for it, however maybe he's more like Mendy, who I never think looks graceful playing full back, but he's certainly very good at it.

If not Camacho, it has to be Fabinho. We will have such control of the game that he'll essentially be sitting on the half way line pinging cross field balls anyway allowing Robbo to place himself consistently further forward on the left. Hendo was quality against Palace - i have no concerns that he wouldn't put in another huge captain's performance at DM in this.

So you can play as a Stopgap RB for Brazil but not for Liverpool? We really have progressed lately haven't we….😀

Thinking the same, I don't like playing after city

You best get used to it, we play after them a LOT now. Obv BT & Sky want the narrative of citeh winning week after week & us starting to crack under the pressure.

Hopefully, we can win tonight & extend that gap a bit more & fuck their narrative right up their arse early doors.

@Beamrider

Just spotted your username at the bottom of this thread.

Cool name, is it taken from the old school Atari game?

Ooh, just noticed you haven't made a single post yet. Say hello!

I'm excited - this is going to be a game to show our hand. I trust that Klopp will make sure this is a win at all costs game. The front three are in form, Hendo is coming into imperious form, Fabs has been quality, Robbo looking sharper. This is our change to stand up and make a huge statement. "how do they handle being chased?" they say - we invite the 2016 champions into Anfield and play them off the park - that's how.
