We've got Ox coming back. No need to panic and buy a creative midfielder now. Do you think anyone would just walk into the team and start producing instantly?@Wet WetDreambeliever - I think that squad is correct except Matip keeps his place ahead of Lovren. I actually think VVD likes to play with Matip rather than Lovren. Matip has been very good since he has had chances to cover for Gomez. His forward runs with the ball are very welcome feature to the team. Fucks me off that we still have no creative midfielder in the side and reliant on functional midfielders to recycle the ball, one good thing is that Fabinio has a few cute passes in him.
Can't see Ox playing competitively until April. Yeah back in training from end of feb-march but he's been out for a year. So he can't be relied on this season. We are desperately lacking that creativity in midfield. Keita has been a dud so far and Klopp doesn't trust shaqiri in midfield. We've got Ox coming back. I know all that, but like Brizz said we haven't got too many games coming up.Can't see Ox playing competitively until April. Yeah back in training from end of feb-march but he's been out for a year. Please don't sack Puel before our game!

True, but they're going to be much better against us ... They play the top teams WELL.
Vardy loves playing against us as well!

Over in Dubai at the moment with the rest of the team. Can't see Ox playing competitively until April. Yeah back in training from end of feb-march but he's been out for a year. I agree that having a CB who comes across as more reliably fit would be ideal but i'm starting to think that Matip really fits into the ideal that Klopp wants at the back with his passing and odd surge forward. Only drawback I see is that his lack of physicality is what causes him to dive in e.g. I don't think he backs himself to be able to go shoulder to shoulder to knick the ball and therefore needs to put in some extra force.
This is entirely fair and accurate - just throwing that in there, because it's pretty much a first, and deserved some loveNo, when we got him he was supposed to be no2. He’s been injured a lot and has been far from convincing when playing for the most part. Pre VVD he was just as unreliable as Lovren except Lovren had the ability to put in a great performance once in a while.
VVD has made everyone look better but with his contract up soon I wouldn’t renew it.
His heading is poor, he’s weak and isn’t quick.
I expected a lot more.
10 days time until this gets underway, hopefully by then we have few players back.
If not then I can see Klopp changing system due to concerns to turning to youth, Camacho, Hoever.
-----------------------Allison--------------------
-----------Matip----Van Dijk----Robertson---
Shaqiri--------Hendo----Keita-------Lallana
-------------Salah----Firmino-----Mane------
Maybe Moreno for Lallana if we want to go with more pace?
Wijnaldum for Keita if he's fit.
Trent for Lallana if he's fit and back to back 4.
Milner suspended and Fab/Lovren both hamstrung.
I think we are seeing the best of Matip now, but you have to wonder - why this lack of physicality - it is rather embarrassing - I mean he is so fucking tall - taller than VVD.
Whats stopping him from doing some time in the gymn and doing some heavy lifting. You have to admit though ... both together look very imposing.Because height does not equal strength, theyve got different builds. Matip is tall and wiry VvD is built like a tank. Added to that Matip isnt a particularly agressive defender, his style is more reactive.

Id imagine the fact that he doesnt really have the frame to carry additional bulk so it would just slow him down. You see plenty of players who hit the gym and bulk up only to find it adds nothing to their game and impacts their pace/mobility.
Matip is a similar build to Sami who was an excellent CB, he just doesnt read the game as well or impose himself of attackers. The flip side is a player like Lovren or Sahko who loves to go and win the ball, throw himself into challenges. When it works its very effective and eye catching, when it doesnt hes either miles out of position or commits a foul. I agree Matip can be a bit timid at times but I dont think protein shakes and an extra leg day will solve that problem.
Some of the things I read about Matip here makes me wonder if people even watch him play? Throws himself into challenges?I think Matip tends to hold his position and step in when necessary, certainly not a defender I think of as one who dives in. You dont see him come miles out of position trying to win 50/50 challenges like Lovren.
Agree with this. I reckon if we put him on the market you would get loads of clubs wanting him. The second goal we conceded against Palace should not have happened when we have large motherfuckers like Matip VVD and Fabibino. Some of the things I read about Matip here makes me wonder if people even watch him play? Weak?
No he isn't as strong as VD, but he's smart and positions himself well. Also I haven't seen him lose too many challenges
