Jamie Carragher...

Whilst there is often no sentiment in football anymore and Carra's form has been patchy at best this season, I think that people need to see whether this is a blip or a more terminal.

Carra has, for years, along with Hyypia, been our best defender. Yesterday he was given the run around by Cole in the first half. But he learnt in the second half and Cole was far less effective. In fact both him and Skrtel made him less effective by attacking the ball instead of letting him bring the ball down and lay it off.

Anyway, in terms of Carra we are talking about one of the club's great servants here. A little bit of more support for him wouldn't go amiss imo.

I don't think people are showing a lack of respect or support for Carra.

Exactly. If Gerrard had a bad game, many on this forum do say that he had a stinker....but yet it seems it is not allowed to criticize Carra.

He was at fault for both their goals. He has been a weak link in defending corners this season. Insua and Skrtel are pretty poor during corners too. They all need to sort it out asap.

If Cole gave us the run around, then Drogba will eat em alive a couple of weeks down the line.

Pretending Carra is ace today is not going to affect the fact that he needs to get back to the level exhibited in the previous seasons asap or accept a less important role in the team.

Carra acted the twat that day. End of.
Yep, Arbeloa had also been bailed him out three days earlier when he fell over the ball and almost gifted the opposition and chance.
So, Arby covered for Carra once, and that means that he shouldn't get a bollocking a few weeks later, when he wasn't pulling his weight?

That means that the vice-captain cannot issue a deserved sressing down..?

"Piss off, Carra. You fell over the ball last month".

I don't think so.
Carragher was in the wrong.

its the manner you do it, a private dressing down is part of the job, but a public humilation is not going to do team spirit any good.

I think some are. There has also been constructive and spot on criticism.

Jayzus, there's a lot of sensitive souls in here today...

Nasty ol' Carra shouted at poor ol' Arby. Bastard.

Anyone reading this thread could be forgiven for thinking we were talking about a mercenary cunt who'd never done anything for the club.
I wouldn't worry about it ros, carra isn't going to be dropped and he will recapture his form sooner rather than later.
I'm not concerned about him not being dropped.

He should be afforded a bit more respect than some posters are giving him.
He lost most of that when he decided to have a pop at Arby on the pitch. He is a great player and has been a fantastic servant to the club, but that was unforgiveable. Maybe he knew Arby was on his way? No matter, how would he have reacted had Pepe grabbed him yesterday and given him a bollocking in front of his team mates and fans?
Are you serious? His past heroics are all but forgotten because he decided to have a go at a player who was already weighing up the cost of a taxi to the airport?

Don't get me wrong, I don't condone what Carra did but Arbeloa was dawdling like fuck in that game and Carra swept up after him time and again. While his reaction was OTT, I'm not surprised he was pissed off. He was pretty much the only defender earning his wage.

I can't understand why you're being so melodramatic about one error of judgement. His passion boiled over - I think he can be forgiven for that.

two moments of madness from jamie

1) gets caught on the ball
should have been a goal from hines. that's a lack of concentration which jamie can improve, it was very early in the game

2) jamie gets done for pace v hines
after watching that again, jamie oddly checks his run and then pursues hines, if jamie had attempted to make hines stride for stride when he makes the challenge (push) he would have been shoulder to shoulder rather than behind hines and there is no way a penalty would have been given then.

I think the two incedents are lapses of concentration rather than jamie's body catching up with him. gainst hull he will be fine, then it will be the big test v chelsea.

Who knows ?

Why do you think Pepe didn't feel the need to give him a bollocking ?

I know in my heart and soul that every time Carragher goes out on that pitch he's prepared himself properly, he's fully motivated and he only wants the best for LFC.

There's quite a few players I can think of that I can't honestly say that about. Arbeloa may well have been at the stage where his head was turned and he was merely seeing out his time here, god knows he was rubbish towards the end of last season. If Carragher felt the need to tell him that in full view of a stadium of fans then fair enough. I'd back Carragher's judgement every time.
I think it's the same reason that people on here get their backs up. It's just because it's Carra... the local boy who plays with his heart on his sleeve.

Have look at how Reina glares at him as he gets up. If it was anyone else (other than Gerrard of course) I think Reina would've had a go.

Carra's form has been poor this year and he needs dropping. That's not disrespecting him or ignoring all that he's done for the club.
The only problem is that there's no one to take his place.... if only we hadn't let Sami go :'(

There must be something in the air, quite a few top draw CB had shockers this weekend.
It just shows that they're only human and they make mistakes.

Hopefully we'll have Agger back by then.
And hopefully Drogba's injury is a bit more serious than first reported.
agger isn't going to be thrown into the chelsea game even if he (agger) has an absolute blinder v leeds. it's carra and martin unless on of them gets injuried.

again he made one or two mistakes against Leeds last night... one of them could of been critical if it was against stronger opposition.

I do hope he is not playing against Hull at the weekend... I really do...

If Rafa has an idea of playing him into form.. Please Please don't..... Give the chap a rest as he looks and plays like he needs it!

However I still think he will eventually turn it around later in the season, but these early season signs of his form are worrying.

The Greek lad and Skittles for me against Hull...

Nice - dress up your agenda as actually being for Carras good...riiiiiight. So, take a proud and confident guy (who professes to wanting to play every single game) and drop him for lack of form at the first available opportunity.

Lets all remember folks; were the best fans in the world!

The signature underneath your name should be "Fuck Yourself".

same as always in this place.. you have a pop at certain 'loved' player for his terrible form of late.. and you get flamed...

By his own standards he has been terrible this season so far..

JC has always been one of my most favourite players.. But cmon.. even a blind person can see how shite he is playing at the mo...

However if it was Lucas... Babel etc...

Surely it can't be tiredness already?

And Carra almost cost us a goal again against Leeds. It's very worrying.

I'm on the 'carra is playing shit' side. He is.
Sorry, is anyone arguing that he isn't playing badly?

I'd probably play Carra and Skrtl come Hull but none of them have impressed so far. I can't say who's been the poorer though.

Kyrgiakos' performance last night was probably the best we've seen this Season at the back but then again, that was against rather mediocre opposition.
