and yes, the "once or twice a game" stupid lunges are still there. A concern.
not to mention the 'stand behind the defender' marking

rafa could do a lot worse that play agger and martin together midweek to see how they gel.
also will be good to give aurelio game time as well.

This thread is a fucking joke.
Carragher is a top class pro who has performed to a level many of our best ever defenders would be proud of.
He is suffering a blip in form but because of the high standards he himself has set in the past he is looking vunerable right now.
He's the best defender at the club by a fucking stretch and unless he is injured he should be in the team.

Jono, wise up man.

people are way too sensitive. call a spade a spade without getting upset. jamie will regain his form sooner rather than later.

I don't think there's any doubt that he's having a sticky patch just now, but he's had them before, and Spidey is right that he brings more than just defending. That said, I do think he needs to be rested now and again, whether he likes it or not. He plays every single game, and I think playing a few less games will sharpen his focus.

But those writing his obituaries are miles off. He remains our best defender, and by a distance.

I'd say A does not necassarily equal B. However, Jamie has more than earned our patience
We've conceeded 2 goals against Tottenham, Villa, West ham and Bolton and only kept clean sheets vs Stoke and Burnley.
Im not interested in the heart wrenching local boy done good aspect of it. Im interested in the 'sort out our defence or our titles over' aspect.
Carragher is one of my favourite ever player, but hes painfully off form.
Its not all his fault, Mascherano and Lucas arent helping matters, and the new attack minded fullbacks is an obvious detraction, but the fact is Carra needs to take accountability.
I agree. He just needs a break.

I was more worried by Skrtel. He really must eradicate those stupid lunges. I'm amazed he hasn't been in more trouble.
Indeed. Another thing which I've mentioned before is that Carra is pretty much Skrtel's minder. He keeps him in check for the most part. I fear that if Carra were to be dropped then Skrtel's defending could become even more erratic.

bit worrying that if he needs a break then he's clearly needed one since the first game of the season.

carlton cole took the piss out of him all day.

i'd like to see what a carra agger partnership can do first though.

And maybe he is/does take accountability Oncy. There is no way that he is sat in the dressing room after that game and thought to himself that he played well tonight. He clearly understands football and when he speaks about the game he is always very frank. He will know that he is going through a rough patch. Yes, we do need to sort out the defense and quick but I cannot see an option available to us better than Carra, even in this funk.

I do agree with you regarding the other players though. The midfield is not as protective as it was last year and the partnership between Carra and Skrtel seems to be shaky too.

Carragher is, without doubt our best centre half. Some of the rubbish spouted about him in here is laughable. But to say he never put a foot wrong today is absolute bollocks Mark and he really hasn't been on top of his game for most of the season. I am actually starting to worry about that position. An out of sorts Carra, basic schoolboy errors from Skittles and...well..... the Danish Aurelio....doesn't inspire confidence. Oh. Yeah. I forgot the Greek fella. Panic over.

Carra's just fine and will remain one of the first names on the team sheet. I'd be a little more concerned if our defenders were getting raped one on one all of the time, but we just seem to be conceding a few too many soft goals at present. We always seem to look dodgy at set pieces early on in the season, but I'm sure we'll have it sorted out sooner rather than later.

I really don't get this talk of Carra needing a rest? He should be as fresh as a daisy at this stage.

carra is having a bad patch no doubt but to lay all the blame at his door is unfair..... how about sticking a fucking man on the post for once!
I dont understand all this superfan bollocks.
He isnt playing well. Thats a fact. He looks jaded and we should give him a rest.
The trouble is that it's way too early in the season to be jaded, unless he's been massively overtrained.

The only other conclusion isn't a nice one.

I suggested a rest, but that was only a nicer way of saying that he needs to be benched.

Playing next to Skrtel makes him look worse than he is.

Skrtel isn't a good footballler at all. Yes he's strong & pacy.. But he is not the most intelligent of defenders. He's error-prone, rash with his challenges, terrible at handling set-pieces, switches off from time to time...

The sooner Agger is fit the better.

You are the weakest link.....

The sooner agger gets back to full fitness the better...

Please note this is not a Knee Jerk reaction... granted it should not of really been a penalty... But this season.. he has been woeful and that mistake early on showed it...

Think his knees have finally gone...
Thank fuck I only really browse on this site if you have knobs like this.Granted for the penalty he wasnt at his best other than that he didnt put a fooot wrong,Some fuckin knobs on these sites.
What about when he got robbed of the ball and West Ham hit the post, soft shite?

People are frightened to criticise Carra because of his "soul of the team" credentials, but if Agger was fit then Carra would/should have been dropped, he doesnt look right and has been massively average so far this season.

Its not a good sign when most would welcome the Greek into the side now.

Carra is still a top class player and showed his metal by having a solid second half after a shocking first half.

I think he needs a rest at this stage for sure. If he starts against the likes of Drogba I think he would get shown up even more than he has of late.

does anyone find form being rested?

I think it's more a case of his legs not being able to play every game there is, as he looked quick and sharpe midweek and looked the opposite last night.

Getting Agger fit, means we could rotate more, and that will benefit Carra. I'm quite interested to see the Agger/Skrtel combo. Cause I think it has a lot of potential.

They're not dominant enough in the air as a pairing. plus, how many top teams have two CB's that young? You need one more mature more experienced CB alongside in my opinion.

I will not be against selling Skrtel in January and buying that Hull defender(Turner) we were after.
He moved to Sunderland already

In the second half with Johnson matching Hines for pace, there was less danger. I think Rafa instructed Johnson to man mark Hines.
