RAFA BENITEZ today insisted he has got enough cash to splash to turn Liverpool into Premier League champions.

The Reds’ summer spending is expected to be dwarfed by a number of their rivals but the Spaniard is in fighting mood – and confident he will land his main transfer targets.

“We knew it could be difficult because there is a crisis all around the world,†he said.

“Clearly we don’t have too much to spend but I think we have enough money to add the one or two players that we need.

“I’m very happy with the squad we’ve got.

“This season has been really good and we’ve competed on all fronts.

“If we can sign one or two players then I’m really positive that we can improve.â€

Benitez, who signed a new five-year contract back in March, will celebrate five years as Liverpool manager next week.

He admits he is relishing the challenge of taking the club to the next level.

“When I decided to sign a new contract I did it because Liverpool Football Club is more than a club,†he said.

“It is the heart of the city. It is our life and for the people here it means so much.

“I thought I had to sign.We have to fight. We have to do it.â€

I think he's right, two top players is all we need. Just hope we can get them with the minimum of fuss.

Wow bold move to say he has enough money, can't complain later on this year then

Exactly Asim. Make or break season for Rafa methinks.

Not if it ends up being Distin and Tuncay, that would be neither quality or quantity

Well we missed out on our first opportunity to do this last season, so he's got to get these next couple of signings spot on.

Since Rafa has signed his new contract, he seems to be saying all the right things.

As in his excuses for not winning the title. I don't mean he'll be booted if he doesn't.

Yes he can. He can be like all of us. Contrary.

Two players of Torres sort of class and cost and we'll be laughing.

Then if we flog a few fringe players we could address places that need cover.

I think we'll be alright.

He has to break in a spectacular fashion not to be here the season after I think. He can ride off this pushing united close for at least two seasons.

only two? 😉
personally I'd be happy with a competant right full back and a forward/wide midfielder with the ability to get double figures in the league.

I hear ya.

If we can buy two great players without lossing two great players in Alonso and Masher we'll be grand.

Great quotes. Such a relief not to hear Rafa moaning about money for once. And those last lines are beautiful.

Rafa's now got everything he wanted in terms of off-the-field reorganisation, so I'd expect him to be looking forward to the future with some relish and I think that comes across in this interview. Time will tell, but he's definitely making the right noises.

so do I dave...

In fact i think people who dont like him and keep fucking sniding away are fucking delusional sheep who think that just because we are Liverpool we have a god given right to win year in year out. I might add that all the cunty whines people throw out about the man are ten times worse then his own moans which on the whole just point out the truth which is we are not playing on a level playing field against opponents who have been better than us for the best part of twenty years....

it fucking drives me mad...

thats me pegged for the RCDNW brigade then so be it... i know which side me fucking breads buttered on.

Don't we say that every season? ;D Although It would interesting to know if the one or two players are in the 5-6million bracket or 15-20million bracket.

Incidently 'Shiek Yerbouti' by Zappa is a quality album but 'One Size Fits All' is my fave. 8)

I wish you'd post more Molby.

For what Rafa has achieved in his time with us, he really does deserve a lot more respect than what he often gets on here.

He drives me insane at times with his anal approach and political mind games, but I can't think of anyone else I'd rather have managing the club. If he can just win one league title I think we'd be on our way. I can smell the bastard.

I certainly dont think he's perfect but i genuinely think he is perfect for us.... sometimes his selections have been fucking dodgy as fuck NO denying that but to suggest he hasn't done and isn't doing a great job is just wrong ... and i write great job not good not average... he's is doing a great job.

Whether we eventually win it or not under his management fuck knows but i aint gonna sit by and watch people getting little petty digs in all the fucking time just because they are impatient...

its like they are the only ones who have been waiting fucking twenty years for fucks sake... its dizzy and its unfair IMO.

I also suspect that if he were to win it he will do it again and again and maybe end up being the best manager we've ever had.

How his statements of today including that last line can result in snide little digs is just infuriating to me...

that'll do rant over...

the truth is somewhere in the middle of 'RCDNR' and 'RCDNW'.
even the most ardent rafa fan must admit he's made some howlers in his time and even the biggest detractor must admit there have been moments of genius.

Mate, I wish you'd lose this chip on your shoulder about Rafa criticism, he gets it when it's warranted and gets the plaudits when deserved, it doesn't make it disrespectful. Liverpool fans are renowned for being knowledgeable, not for being rose-tinted, we give respect when it's due and we'll rip someone's flaws to pieces until we can inspect the minutest aspect of it all, it's what we're good at, we're perfectionists and we know our stuff and we strive to be the very best.

Yeah ok, so sometimes for reasons of passion for the game (or just sheer stupidity) some people go over the top in both their criticism and praise, but I think by and large this forum is fair and he gets all the love and respect he deserves. It's just that occasionally he deserves a good shoeing too.
