Doesn't Sturridge, somewhat fortuitously, have a Champions League winner's medal?
YOu could argue that every Chelsea player who has a CL medal is somewhat fortuitous. Still can't believe they won that.

The thread asked should we keep him as a player.
Yeah @davud graham - I mean't it more broadly. I just think given his experience and the fact he knows where he is in the pecking order he's a solid 4th choice defender. The fact he can add all of that to the squad and the youth team is a massive bonus. No it didn't. It was much more open than that, as I'm sure Red would confirm. And as for coaching, what's wrong with assessing what potential you have? Do you always have to go out and get tried and tested people at every level without even considering checking potential?
Ah yeah, Milner. Sturridge didn't play much for Chelsea when they won the CL though
A pitiful selection of winners in our team

Fair enough though it was easy to assume you meant playing rather than coaching as you didn't mention it. He does seem very popular with the rest of the players but i have yet to see that translate into the rest of the players playing any better with him in the team.Yeah @davud graham - I mean't it more broadly. I don't see why you wouldn't want someone who has proved themselves good at a certain job. I'm sure that if Klopp or the academy director sees Kolo as a good choice for a coach then they may give him a try but I wouldn't be at all surprised if they didn't. It all depends on whether they want a popular novice or a new guy with experience. Time will tell.No it didn't. It was much more open than that, as I'm sure Red would confirm. He shouldn't be at the club next season, there's no place for sentimentality.
Ignoring the fact that I don't think he's much more than average and quite panicky these days. If we start the season with Lovren, Sakho, Matip and Skrtel, where does Gomez, Ilori or any other youngster get a game?
He's well on the downward slope and a blocker to those coming through behind him.
If we start the season with Lovren, Sakho, Matip and Skrtel.
I'd be surprised if we did. Personally, I'd gave Lovren another season and ship Sakho out but I wouldn't be surprised with any selling decision made in regards to our current centre backs.
He is getting paid £60k a week at 34, why would he be upset?I doubt that you will find any better central defender in the world that probably is happy being fourth choice. He will be happy if he get 10 games a season, he won't moan about it. We can sign a better central defender but he will probably not be happy being fourth choice.
No offence like, and I think the Toure number might actually be somewhere close to the truth, but that looks like a shite source. He is getting paid £60k a week at 34, why would he be upset?

No Offence taken. £3.4M he makes per year, just not worth the money for a bench warmer. No offence like, and I think the Toure number might actually be somewhere close to the truth, but that looks like a shite source.
I was suspicious of it when they couldn't spell "Brendan" correctly..... and then Flanagan 40k per week is patently completely bollocks. I think its less of a reliable data source and more "here are some things I read in a variety of papers, with wildly varying degrees of accuracy, collated in one table for your perusal"
I think Lovren will stay.I'd be surprised if we did. Personally, I'd gave Lovren another season and ship Sakho out but I wouldn't be surprised with any selling decision made in regards to our current centre backs.

I think Lovren will stay.
Skittles & Sakho will be off, if not this summer, then the next one.
Skrtel's alright, but slows down our game. He won't be the ideal CB in a high pressing system.I don't know why people are writing Skrtel off, he's the best centre back we've got. Lovren has earned himself a minor reprieve, but ideally him and Sakho will go.

What's the chances we see Coutinho offered an improved deal in the summer?
He may not be ideal but as mark pointed out, he is better than the rest.Skrtel's alright, but slows down our game. He won't be the ideal CB in a high pressing system.
I'd give him another one year contract and also try him out in a coaching capacity with the kids. With his experience and enthusiasm he'd probably be a great influence on them, and he'd still be around as a player if we have another injury crisis like we did this year.

Fair point.Does he? He's the most aggressive centre back we've got who steps forward and attacks the ball. He's fairly decent at bringing the ball out from the back too, more so than Sakho and Lovren. Sakho might pick out a decent pass once he gets his posture correct, but neither he or Lovren look to bring the ball out from the back that much. Skrtel just needs a decent partner at the back, he was great alongside Sami.
