I dont begrudge Ings for a minute though. He's working for everything he's getting.

I strongly suspect the main reason why Robbie didn't get a load more caps can be summed up in two words: Steve McManaman. He was still Spice Boy-ing his way through his career, Robbie regrettably sucked up to him and the England set-up was less tolerant of all that than Uncle Roy was. One or other of them was always likely to miss out for England and the choice fell on Robbie, because England had other options up front but not out wide.

Yep, Fowler had Sheringham, Shearer, Ferdinand, Cole and Ian Wright for competition at one stage.
