No he hasn't. He looked pretty confident and assured to me, certainly more accomplished than the more experienced bellends who caved in during the league games against West Ham. He's had a couple of decent outings now, must you always be so definitively negative?

Quite the reverse could be said of you Mark, you'd be happy to polish a turd or tell us that Mignolet is the new Schmeichel.
My opinion is that Illori will never come good, and that he's had one average game, and that he'll be shipped out in the summer. If you believe different and you think he's Baresi in the making, then fair fucks to you and I couldn't give a monkeys. You opened a thread and asked if he had a future here, I gave my opinion. Maybe put a warning on the next thread saying 'no negative talk tolerated' a bit like RAWK?
We've no performing CB's and I think all of them should be sold, minus Gomez, who hasn't had a chance there yet.

Because I never criticise anyone? Yeah ok, if you want me to give you a list, I'm happy to. Picking Mignolet is probably the worst example you could have opted for there.

I've criticised plenty of players, there's a difference between doing that to experienced players after sufficient time, and affording players a *bit* of indulgence. There's also a difference in trying to be fairly level headed, and dissing just about everything. I make plenty of negative posts, I just don't make it my forte.

Talking of players not having " had a chance yet", how many games exactly has Ilori played for us?

Can't see him ever making it, expect him to be shipped out in the summer. He's had one average game for us.
One average game is a hell of a lot better than pretty much everyone we've played at centre-half, excluding Lucas. He'll stay.

One average game out of three makes him first choice material. I would say he's had one indifferent game , one average game and one above average game and for the reason I gave before is wholly understandable anyone that can't see that does not understand the game - it takes weeks of regular games to get anywhere near full fitness

It's accepted that Sakho needs a couple (or six) games to play himself back into form after injury, so it's odd that a lad that has never played senior minutes for Liverpool is then expected to come in and be amazing from the first minute.

He showed talent at Lisbon, he showed talent in the reserves and for Portugal U21s. He deserves to show if that talent can translate to first team football before a decision is made - most other players would get more than three games from the fans.

I've always had a soft spot for Ilori as I have him in my mind as a potentially cultured CB in the mould of Agger etc (and I like one of those alongside a no-nonsense hard man).

His loan spells went well (Villa aside, but they're in a right mess) including excellent performances vs Real Madrid in La Liga a couple of seasons back. He's come back in and re-started his young career well enough in the past couple of games, showing composure, some strength and real tactical nous.

I really liked his pull on Valencia Vs West Ham. We need more defenders (like Flanno too) who are prepared to be a bit naughty and niggly. Granted he'd lost his man (he's young and is going to make mistakes), but instead of playing the nice guy he bet the rules, got away with it and saved a certain goal.

We've got an unusual chance right now to give a bunch of young promising players a run out in the league towards the end of the season. He's got to be in the running for a few appearances.

We need a bit of a cull of centre backs, there's too many on the books.

With a bit of luck we may get Matip and an experienced organiser, someone like Subotic, in the summer and can then move on Sakho, Skrtel, Caulker & Toure.

Keep Lovren and the young pretenders Gomez & Ilori, both of whom could be top class.
