If you spent time working on them instead of Googling up pictures of the O'reilly owl in multiple languages, you'd probably have done half an article by now!

Yeh it would be nice to win, but I won't be overly arsed if we don't. We don't have a top fit striker (sorry Rickie) and it's still just preseason. Is just like to see a strong side out along the lines of which we intend to go forward. I'm all for trying out players etc, but not now that it's getting close to the real deal. We need to gel now and hit the ground running.

I think you'll see that in the Dortmund game, not this one. The boys probably just want to go home by now; it's been quite a long trip for them. And with Lovren, Lallana, Sturridge, Markovic, Flanagan etc. all not involved, the team that plays in this game will probably be very different from the one that starts against Southampton anyway.

Over the games in this US Tour, we've not really pressed or pushed as hard as we could've - probably even hitting just a fraction of our normal workrate, and the teams that Rodgers have been fielding have pretty much always been a mix of his first choice defence + second choice attack or the other way around. I think that will continue again into this game, especially given that we're playing 2 games in 3 days.

The Dortmund game at Anfield is the one which I think will see us sending out a team more likely to play in the manner more resembling how we'll set out next season.

Brendan seems to be playing things pretty close to the vest in terms of line-ups and who he will field for Southampton. For example the fact that we have barely seen the Laserman has me wondering if he is in line to start against the Saints or he is not quite match fit. Also a bit odd to me that Flanno has yet to see the field once in pre-season? Did he pick up a knock?

Lazar has a minor tendon problem but sounds like he could be back against Dortmund.
Flanno flew back with Studge and Lallana.
Knee problem or something.

Both are supposed to be injured; I think Flanagan did play half a game in the US. I actually think that despite his price tag, Markovic won't necessarily be a shoo-in to get onto the bench every week, and that he'll still have to fight it out to edge Suso and Ibe (at least for half the season) to get a place on the bench.

Hmm - I don't think we'll see any games where he isn't on the bench if he isn't in the line up.

Missing some serious goals/goal-threat in this game with the llama, lazar and sturridge all out.

I'd love to see us play against more park the bus teams as that will be the achilles heel this year.

I would expect Mark's lineup to be pretty close to what we start with... none of the back four he listed (Johnson, Skrtel, Sakho and Enrique) started the last friendly, nor did Gerrard, Coutinho or Can. I would expect all of them, along with Lambert (no other striking option and he obviously needs the work), Mignolet (just started the one match after coming back from Brazil) and two others to start.

I would go with Mark's lineup, except with Gerrard holding and Can playing in Hendo's spot.

Can't believe you cunts didn't even have a thread on the Man U vs Liverpool match. I woke up for a business call and then had to follow the match on RedCafe FFS.

Sorry can't find Gerrard's penalty.

United's 1st (Rooney) : [av]http://fat.gfycat.com/TintedLateGuillemot.webm[/av]

United's 2nd (Mata) : [av]http://zippy.gfycat.com/ShyFrayedKinkajou.webm[/av]

United's 3rd (Lindegaard) : [av]http://zippy.gfycat.com/NaturalImpressionableJavalina.webm[/av]

Anyway from everything I read we played very well in the 1st half and didn't give them a sniff. Defence gave it away though. Sterling fantastic - everyone's opinion.

You read the match thread on redcafe, fuck that. Almost as bad as reading it on RAWK just with many more knobheads

I know 🙁
But why the fuck was there no thread here ?

Though for the first half it was entertaining reading their misery. We should have had two pens (pretty much all the Mancs agreed), courtesy of Sterling, and put it away before HT.

Difference for me seemed to be that United had that cutting edge up front in Rooney, Mata, etc whereas our goal-scoring threat(s) are either injured, or going to Barcelona.

Yup that's the long and short of it really. We played well, but there's no point in doing that if your defence is shite and you have nobody that can score, either.

The defence wasnt shite for the first 55 mins though until the fitness levels started to drop. We should have had a second before they scored the 1-1 goal.
It doesnt matter though. Johnson wont start at left back and Kelly wont start as right back.

We need a striker though but we knew that 3 weeks ago.

I wouldn't say the defence was shite, but there were at least 2 occasions when the Mancs should've scored too in the first half, but for some late heroics. One of these happened before our goal I think, and involved Johnson not helping Sakho on Hernandez after Sakho got sucked in to defend Mata who had made a free run into the box, and then there was another occasion involving Sakho making a last-ditch tackle on Rooney I believe. So it wasn't all hunky dory in the first 55 minutes to be fair.

But it's just a pre-season game, I'm not really too bothered about the level of our performance; just making the observations as I see them in the game.
