Hodgeson on Sturridge: I’d rather the players got injured now

If we fuck up over the next 2 months, this may kill his career here ... and then Brazil 2014 won't mean a thing in the long run as we're the only club who's ever given him a proper chance to show his talents ...

It appears you are saying that there is indisputable evidence that Sturridge's twisted ankle is a direct consequence of having played for England with a thigh injury he'd been carrying for months whilst playing for Liverpool. And, therefore, Rodgers is going to make him pay for that decision by selling him if our results whilst he's injured aren't very good.

He wasn't 100% when he went to play for England, and he returned less than that. Since I'm sure you're well aware that when you're carrying an injury, you often compensate by doing things slightly different while exercising, they're probably related one way or another. In life, actions have consequences. If he's putting England ahead of Liverpool, that's his choice and I'm glad you're a tart and support that. If that's the case tough, he can join the many high earners who should be flogged off.

I like the new posting style you have though - not as good as the miserable "happy when everything goes wrong" poster (we've missed you this year, but we'll probably see a lot more of you until season's end!) mind

You are correct, there's a definite possibility the ankle injury was due in some part to over-compensating for some other injury he had. But I really doubt the manager is going to sell his second best striker because he tried out for his country in a World Cup year, especially when that same manager is already very likely to be losing his best player at the same time.

I was gutted to entirely miss the Hull game, including not seeing any highlights. A moment of maximum happiness lost there, I think. Still, plenty left to cheer up about with those tricky away games coming.

I don't think he'll sell him but I think one of the keys behind Sturridge's form has been the confidence and belief shown in him by his manager and team. If he's indirectly fucked us by this, that confidence/belief will be shaken ...

That's a bit weird. You seem to have missed the point where Hodgson said the medical evidence suggested Sturridge could play and Hodgson wanted to test his resolve. And Sturridge was keen to play. So he played. Loads of players play when a bit injured, giving it a try to see how it goes. And now Hodgson has said "‘And I am delighted he did get out there, even though he maybe didn’t feel 100 per cent, because that means in future I will know I can trust him as an England player". It appears to have worked out well for Sturridge at an England level, which is what he was aiming for, so that answers all your questions about what was achieved.

As for being unable to play for your club afterwards, I already said that's worth the risk if a player is a guaranteed starter at his club when fit, which Sturridge is. He knows he can take that risk and it'll probably turn out ok in the end. All the top players are able to do this. Anyway, playing for England did no harm to Sturridge on a club level as his current injury is nothing at all to do with his slight thigh problem. Maybe you didn't know that.

So he admits that the player didn't feel 100%. As he said himself earlier in the week Sturridge arrived from his club bringing an injury with him. ( Well we're really sorry about that Roy. Maybe we should have rested him for a few weeks for you). And then he proceeds to play him for ,most likely, 95 minutes in a meaningless friendly.

And you think that ok.

And yes playing for England DID harm him on a club level. He wasn't deemed fit enough to start a very important league match because of how he was handled.

Maybe you didn't know that!

I think it's fine for Sturridge to go and try and get himself into the England squad for Brazil. It's his life, his career and these moments are rare for players, so he should go for it. I'd do the same. And it wasn't a meaningless friendly, it was clearly a trial for Hodgson to make squad plans.

As for harming him at club level, I really doubt there will be any negative fallout for him given that he's our second best striker and our best one is probably on his way next summer. Not being available fully for the Everton game will be long forgotten when he returns.

I don't think anyone, including myself, would blame Sturridge for wanting to get himself into the England squad for Brazil. I don't think anyone would blame Hodgson for wanting to try out all available players before formulating his squad for Brazil.

What people would blame both for, is playing for 90+ minutes when both were in agreement that he was not 100% fit. If I'm not mistaken Hodgson actually said that he was only going to play him for 60/70 minutes as he wanted to see Ricky Lambert.

What a Z-List coach to start pulling stunts like that.

By and large, coaches are self-important jerks, but this is ridiculous.

Real, quality coaches don't have to pull stuff like this to feed their insatiable ego.

As if he isn't going to Brazil. The decrepit cunt probably threatened him with a face rub if he didn't play.

So Woy the twat is getting back at us for sacking him and not giving him a spot in the Directors Box.
