Hendo today

Not spending is generally a pretty bad policy in an inflationary environment.

If we really have been waiting for particular players to become available that seems like bad news to me. Good players aren't that scarce. There's no reason we shouldn't have 4 or 5 alternatives to any priority target.

Actually the increase in transfer values hardly going to be along the same lines as we had this year. It is never a line with an even slope. So this year it is ok to not spend if you don't believe you are going to solve a problem.

I think the owners got it pretty much bang on in terms of managing money...they will run rings around everyone this site has to offer in term of managing money. I have worked in an investment bank for 10 plus years hoping to catch a break to make it like them.

Only idiots will question how well we are managed financially.

I can tell you what the problem is. He is a limited player and his body language indicates that he really dont belong at the top level. There has always been a lack of confidence in him.

I thought Hendo looked short on confidence, obviously, but he did have a couple of better spells in this game. Let's not pile on him – he played OK vs Arsenal, very badly against Burnley (both out of position) and now showed some signs of a lack of confidence, which probably carried over from the previous game. There is no reason why he can't turn this around.

Yes, there is Rurik. Complications from his injuries still seem to be following him around and limiting his play - despite his protestations to the contrary. This isn't some minor blip - it's the best part of 18 months since we saw Hendo on form, and I know that inlcudes injury time but we can't just sit still and wait for him. We need better and we need it now if this season isn't to fizzle out before it was even properly alight.

That may well be true, but it's too early to tell. I saw good signs from Hendo in the preseason, he looked faster and fitter than last season, but it's natural that the GAME fitness is taking longer to come back. He hasn't been helped by Klopp playing him at DM in the first 2 games of the season. Let's wait and see and give a player some room to rediscover his form before tearing him apart. I've seen too many great players looking like they can't do anything right when they are low on confidence and/or fitness - but these things can change rather quickly.

He also spent a large chunk of those 18 months on the side lines, so it takes a while to get back. It's like with everyone saying "when Gomez gets back", don't hold your breath on that one and don't expect miracles when he does. No doubt the lad will be written off after a month of coming back because he hasn't hit the ground running, cf Henderson, Flanno and Sturridge.

There was me thinking only an idiot would haggle over a couple of million when it came to signing a player like Dele Alli.

I couldn't be absolutely sure, btw, but the general rise in transfer prices tends not to have been in 3 year chunks as new TV deals have been signed. In reality it's been pretty even year-on-year. Could be, for example, the general influx of investment from new overseas owners.

You dare!!?

He needs sitting but let's not forget that two years back, pre-injury, the interest was from City and Spurs. He deserves more respect than that and a chance to return to form - he just doesn't deserve to start right now.
Yeah, i think its obvious this isn't peak Henderson.
He shouldn't start.

The concern has to be whether he's able to come back from the injury. Nothing is being reported about it , so you could be forgiven for thinking he's 100%. But i think its obvious he isn't close to that.

Coupled to that is the fact that Can's been injured, Lucas has been injured, Milner has been injured and playing left back, so we're down to very few centre mids anyway.

I'm hoping he just need to work his way back into form and fitness and that it's not that the injury is lingering. If it's the latter he will need to be sold sooner rather than later as I don't think he will ever regain his 2013-14 form in that case.
