The race

We played breath taking scintillatingly beautiful football and finished second with 97 points in 18/19.

I'll take the points from sub par performances, top of the form table when it matters for the run in and big ol' PL trophy any day, any week and any year in all honesty.

Yep - we deserve this. I also think though there is a great argument to make around the insane strength of the league this season. Breaking 90 will be near impossible when you have so many great teams in upper mid table like Newcastle, Villa, Brighton, Forest, Chelsea, Bournemouth etc.

We earned our place at the top through quality and relentless at the start of the season, and in the second half we have performed basically at the level of the 'average' team in the top 5. It still feels like we are limping over the line but i'd prefer that to coming second.

Was it really breathtaking scintillatingly beautiful football? I never felt our great teams under Klopp were that beautiful to watch.

Now this is a level of revisionism that is absolutely wild. If you didn't feel that peak period under Klopp was beautiful to watch, I have to ask why you even watch football? Has any football side ever been 'beautiful' in your eyes?

Jeez.

It's not "revisionism", I thought that at the time!

Beautiful football teams? Obviously many but most Barca teams qualify, a lot of the Wenger Arsenal teams, the classic Brazil teams.

Beautiful football imo is technical and intricate. I thought the great Klopp teams were direct and relentlessly attacking, but not generally beautiful.

Our counters were beautiful.

It's more fun to watch comfortable wins sometimes also, which this team isn't doing right now.

West Ham are probably a very good example in terms of the strength of the league. 17th but Potter as manager and players like Kudus, Bowen and Paqueta.

Sadio, Firmino, Mane.
One of the most feared trio in the history of club football.
Even Guardiola was shaking in his boots.

Will be a long time before we see this again at LFC.

Man...for 5 months we had a star quartet, the above mentioned trio + Coutinho.
Honestly, that's the sexiest line up I've seen us have ever. Although Suarez himself was prime Sofia Vergara.

The forwards had more interesting interplay too, thanks to firmino. Our attack isn't more than the sum of its parts, that one was, and the parts were all much better.

That said, many of our forwards are quite good, it's just we just saw that front three so no one is arsed.

Oh, and jota is finished, but hopefully we've noticed and some rube club haven't.

Agreed. Some of the interplay between Bobby, Mo & Sadio (and Coutinho when he was there) was absolutely sublime. Add in the levels that Trent & Robbo were hitting, the epic cross field balls we would see etc. It was insanely beautiful.

In a couple of years time it'll be insisted that we've played great football and Arne Slot and his team have perfected the art of keeping players fit and reading the opposition during games and dominating them in the second half.

We all know this is bollocks now but in a couple of years time it'll be the narrative.

erm.. its the narrative now for me, and I don't like it - as it suggests we never actually set the team up right in the first place.
Lets face it - his football is fucking shit and boring for the most part, but its durable and our best players maybe able to compete for more than one season at a time.

Suarez, Sturridge, Sterling as an attack is underrated a bit on here because of the way their respective careers panned out. That Second half of 2013 2014 was as good as I have seen anywhere. The first 20 minutes of that Arsenal game. It annihilated the mental hold Arsenal had over us since the Wenger years.

Imagine the 2 times we've won the premier league (I know....), we finished the highest 2 points totals ahead.

To be fair, we did have to console ourselves that season with winning CL that season.

Sadio twice? That’s some proper Salah mind play in your head.
