Livorno reduced to ten men just after sixty minutes when Duncan is sent off for a second yellow for preventing Martinho racing clear on goal after a Verona breakaway

Well that was frustrating.
Despite having a man advantage for almost sixty minutes we weren't able to convert a majority of procession and constant pressure into a winner.
To be honest we didn't really create a clear cut chance against a Livorno side obviously happy to leave with the point.
Prompted by Hallfredsson, Verona's bald Icelandic version of Stevie G, we did try and play our way through a blanket Livorno defense.
Often we lacked patience, going for the early killer ball and even when we worked ourselves into a strong position the final ball was often abysmal and usually lacking. The few half chances we had we lacked the composure to convert and the only positive I can take from the night is given our penchant for losing at home at least we didn't lose ground.
Still all to play for I guess.

Lanciano 0-1 Verona 37 min

Martinho, taking over the goal scoring duties from Cacia, latches on to a long ball and booms an unstoppable left foot shot into the top of the net.

and fuck.
Lanciano equalize within five minutes thanks to some sloppy Verona defending

Bazinga!
An injury time penalty means that not only is Daniele Cacia back on the score sheet but a 1-2 win means that Verona move up to second place in Seria B ahead of Livorno on goal difference.
Livorno were held to a 0-0 draw away to Cesena while leaders Sassuolo conceded a late goal to finish 1-1 at Juve Stabia.
Which means that we are back in second place for the first time in goodness knows when with an extra three plus goals than Livorno.
Sassuolo, despite the laste slip up are still eleven points clear and looks destined for Seria A next season (prays that reverse jinx works well)

I take two minutes out to type the previous post and go back to the game to find us 0-1 down😡

make that 0-2 after fifty eight minutes.
Same old fucking same old.

two fucking two.
Come on, we can do this.
Cacia back in the groove but to be fair I wouldn't have missed with a two yard tap in

Bloody hell.
FT 3-2.
Needless to say the second half was a very open one with chances at both ends.
Verona had the best of the play but usually due to a lack of composure or over elaboration they never managed to get the goal to end the contest.
For the final ten minutes it became backs to the wall stuff and I really felt that we were going to concede.
We weathered a penalty shout as well in injury time.
Cacia might get the glory for his two goals that brought the match back to all square but Hallfredsson is the player that sets the tempo for the whole team.
At the end of the day it is just three points and we are still ahead of Livorno only on goal difference in second place.
Hopefully this win acts as an inspiration for the rest of the season.

Did I mention that we have at worst made the playoffs?
Today's win means that we are eighteen points clear of seventh place with only five games left.
Third to sixth placed teams fight it out for promotion to Seria A.
Stupid idea really.
It should just be the top three teams that goes up😎

Sassuolo 1-0 Verona. H.T.
We started off nervously and looked very uneasy at the back.
Our normal passing game was replaced by lots of hopeful balls stright to Cacia up front on his own.
This, while not being effective, seems to have had the effect of pushing the Sassuolo high defensive line deeper and so slowly we got a grip of the game. After a poor opening ten minutes we were the better team for the next twenty and looked the more likely to score in a relatively even game.
As has been the way on many an occasion this season a period of us dominating results in a break away goal for the opposition and so this is how Sassuolo scored. Our keeper was pretty poor to allow a weak shot to trickle into the far side of the goal from a tight angle.
The rest of the half was fairly even and as we continue to create half chances I am hopeful that we can get back into the game in the second half.
However the more we press, and the more desperate we become, the more and more vulnerable we will be to those break away goals again.
An early goal for us would be the ideal scenario/

Sassuolo 1-1 Verona FT

Well I asked for an early breakthrough in the second half and we couldn't have asked for a better opportunity with a penalty for handball in the fifty second minute. I don't know why our normal peno taker Cacia didn't have the responsability but the end result was a weak effort by Gomez, easilly saved by the keeper.
From that set back there was a sense that it wasn't going to be our night but we kept plugging away, dominating the game and creating half chances. Just rewards came our way when a deep cross beat almost everyone only for Hallfredsson with a late run to expertly steer the ball in to the far side of the goal.
There was no let up in in Verona's desire to score and claim all three points in the final fifteen minutes but the few half chances that came our way couldn't be put away.
A win wouldn't have flattered the visitors tonight but there is great comfort to be taken from the fact that we outclassed the divisions runaway leaders on their own patch.
More comfort comes from Livorno letting slip a lead in the eighty eight minute to lowly Bari and therefore we hang onto our second spot courtesy of a better goal diference of two goals.
If we continue to play as well as we did tonight then we have a great chance of promotion. Tonight's match had a cup final feel to it with both sides really up for it. Lets hope all our players remember that there are another eight cup finals to go.

PS. I don't know if it was because I had a really good quality stream rather than the usual shitty ones but I really enjoyed the game tonight,
It was a cracker.

PPS. Give some likes or something ya cunts.

I have found out that there appears to be a caveat to the playoff for promotion rules where by if the team in third are ten points or more ahead of the team in forth they too automatically get promoted to Seria A.
Currently, Verona and Livorno are in second and third position on sixty four points.
Empoli are in forth on fifty six points, eight behind, with the rest well back again.
As we are due to host Empoli in our final game of the season what are the odds on this rule possibly coming in to play?
It looks like it is going to be an exciting finish to the season.

PS Do I have to post some pictures of ass like Ruairi does to get some encouragement (likes) to keep this thing going?

No streams for this weeks matches but despite not having me cheering them on Verona managed to scrape past visitors Ternana 2-1.
In other matches Livorno had a comfortable 3-0 home win over Ascoli and as a consequence leapfrog Verona into second plave by virtue of having scored more goals this season, both teams having identical goal differences.
Sassuolo came back from 2-0 down to draw away to Novara and are now six points clear of Livorno and Verona.
Despite their stutters of late, three draws in a row, they still are strong favourites for the title and promotion.
Elsewhere forth placed Empoli could only draw at home against against Crotone and are now ten points behind both Verona and Livorno.
So if the table was the same at the end of the season all three top sides would be automatically promoted.

Soz for the sabatical.

Anyhow, not the most inspiring few weeks for Verona with three games having been played since the last update.
Although unbeaten two draws and a win have seen them slip back a wee bit in their bid for promotion.
It could have been worse I guess as after two goalless draws we had to come from behind twice to beat Brescia, 4-2 in our most recent game.
Brescia themselves are chasing a play off spot so for them there was the added incentive of not only trying to win the points but to deprive the third placed team, Verona, some and ensure there will be playoffs at the end of the season.
With Sassuolo, Livorno and Empoli all wining two of the three games they played Verona find themselves in third, one point behind Livorno, eight behind Sassuolo and nine clear of Empoli.
So the simple maths is that if we win our four remaining games and the toughest is the last one at home to Empoli, then we will be automatically promoted.
But any one following this thread or Verona will know that we don't do things easy.

I forgot we were playing last night and meant to update on last weeks games before this round started.
Soz
Anyhow our good form continued last week with a 0-5 drubbing of Ascoli which did our goal difference no harm at all.
It really should/could have been even better as that was the half time scoreline as well with Ascoli reduced to ten men.
Not having seen the match I am guessing that Ascoli went with a damage limiting 5-4-0 formation in the second half. Still a bit disapointing not to add to our goals tally as it could still be vitally important come the end of the season.
In the mean time Sassuolo continues to stutter towards promotion, losing again, this time losing 2-1 away to Modena. But five points clear of third placed Verona with only three games left surely they can't throw it away. Can they?
Livorno continue with their good form with a comfortable 2-0 win over Vincenza and going into the last three matches they are four points behind Sassuolo and one clear of Verona. However thanks to that big win Verona now have a better goal difference of plus two. so there is no room for slip ups going into the last three games of the season.
In last night's game Verona duly obliged with a 3-1 home win over Pro Vercelli and leapfrogged Livorno into second place just two points behind Sassuolo. Hopefully one or both of them will slip up today.

Oooooooooooooooh.
It is getting mighty close at the top now.
It turned into a good weekend for Verona with Livorno conceding a goal deep into stopage time to draw 1-1 with Ternanan.
So now they are in third, a point behind Verona who are now in second with a goal difference of plus four over Livorno.
Sassuolo continued to stutter with a 1-1 home draw with Padova and are now three points clear of Verona.
Two games left, the last round of games will involve the top four playing each other.
No matter what any one else does, Verona will be in Seria A next season if they win their final two games.

Penultimate round of games done and dusted and we are still no clearer on who will win Seria B, who will get promoted and whether there will be a need for a play off for the final promotion spot.
Livorno were first up playing their match on Friday evening.
They did what the needed to do, recording a comfortable 3-0 win over Brescia, leapfrogged Verona into second place and closed the goal difference gap to just plus one.
Verona had a tricky away fixture against Juve Stabia but an early Daniel Cacia goal settled the nerves and a second from Daniel in the fifty third minute sealed the deal. Raphael Martinho finished off a sweeping move with the game going into the last quarter and so the match finished 0-3 to the visitors. Back into second and a plus four goal difference over Livorno restored.
Leaders Sassuolo continued with their poor run of form only managing a 2-2 draw away to struggling Vitus Lanciano. They still stay top though, one point ahead of Verona and two above third placed Livorno.

So, Sassuolo are almost certainly promoted. even if the lose their final match at home to Livorno, and Verona win their last game against Empoli they will still be promoted automatically from third position by virtue of being ten points clear of forth.
The only way they can miss out on automatic promotion is if they suffer a heavy loss to Livorno, by more than two goals, and Verona and Empoli draw their game. Unlikely I think.
Livorno basically have to win their final game to get automatically promoted as a draw is unlikly to be enough to pass Verona into second place.
For Verona a win is the simplest way of ensuring automatic promotion but depending on other results a draw or even a loss could still see them automatically go up.
For Empoli in forth place a win will guarantee them a place in the playoffs but again, depending on how the Sassuolo-Livorno match goes they could still find themselves in a play off if they draw or lose.
It is going to be a cracking last day.
Verona could find themselves crowned Seria B champions, promoted to Seria A or facing the horrible prospect of participation in the playoff for promotion.

Half time.
Nil all in both games.
No streams available except for the Seria B simulcast.
All teams look very nervy, the football is poor and a mistake could be decisive.
At the moment we are still going up but a single goal from the wrong team can change that instantly.

A nervy afternoon.
We finished nil all with Empoli, a result that was always going to suit both sides as long as Livorno didn't win.
In fact, with the match appearing only briefly on the simulcast I can only assume that it was a bit of a bore fest with few if any clear cut chances for either side.
Sassuolo scored with pretty much the last kick of the game with a break away goal to secure the Seria B title.
Their cause should have been helped by the sending off, of Livorno keeper but in truth, with them only needing a point it was a back to the wall performance for nearly the entire ninety minutes.

They will be favourites to take the final promotion spot in the playoffs and having never been anything lower than third all season they would thoroughly deserve it.

I don't know how we will get on in Seria A but that concern is for another day.
Today we celebrate.
Verona are back in the big time.🙂🙂🙂

The fact that we didn't try to win our last game against Empoli and guarantee promotion bothered me at the time.
However I suspect I know now why we seemed to be playing for the draw.
I am guessing that teams tied on points are separated by their head to head performances.
As Verona had a better head to head record against both Sassuolo and Livorno, a point was all they needed to see them promoted.
Likewise all Empoli needed to force a play off for the third and final spot was a single point.
So with that in mind it was pretty much inevitable that our match would finish 0-0.

The first legs of the playoff ended 1-1 so they are nicely poised going into the second leg.
With both Livorno and Empoli being at home in the return leg they will both be favorites to make the playoff final.

And a few photos of the lads celebrating their promotion to Seria A
