Hellas Verona

It was a case of two points dropped in their away game to Crotone as Verona led three times only for the opposition to equalize three times.
Most frustrating of all they must have thought that they had won the match, scoring in the ninetieth minute only for Crotone to equalise in the third minute of extra time.
Sassuolo have extended their lead at the top of the table to Seria b to six points and the only consolation on a disappointing night was that Livorno in third place was beaten.
Next up on Monday night is a top of the table clash when we host Sassuolo.
A loss in that game and already it will seem like we are playing for second place and the only other confirmed promotion spot.
A win will see us three points behind and well in the hunt again.

Why are they called "Hellas"?
Founded in 1903 by a group of university students studying Greek, the club was named
Hellas , at the request their professor of Classics.

BTW we won our match against Sassuolo on Tuesday evening in our top of the table clash and are now just three points behind them in Seria B

With Sassuola in first place and Livorno in third place both winning it was vital that Verona should win their away match against Ternana, to keep up their momentum in a push for a promotion spot,

They duly obliged with an not overly comfortable 0-2 win, only securing the points with a second goal deep into injury time, scored by Martinho.
The opener in the sixty eight minute came from the penalty spot dispatched by the ever reliable Daniela Cacia.

Next up the televised game on Friday night home to Cesena when a resounding win could see them go top, if only for a short while.

Half an hour gone in our game with Cesena and we are 1-0 up thanks to a goal from Rivas in the 16th minute.
It is a scrappy affair so far with Verona on top but in a game like this anything can happen.

Watch it here http://www.leonapoli.altervista.org/ if you want

Half time.
Still 1-0 but it is a horrible match with neither side playing decent football.
Would certainly take the three points and a 1-0 win right now.

Fuck.
Djokovic with a cracker from twenty five yards out to equalize for Cesena

It's been pretty much all Verona in the last twenty minutes since cesena equalized with them dominating pocession and territory.
Cesena have threatened with the occasional break awy though with is a bit of a concern.
The football is better than in the first half but sadly lacks the final ball to create clear cut chances.
It really seems to be a policy of hit and hope with the idea that eventually the sheer volume of numbers will eventually create a chance.
Hopeful rather than optimistic of snatching a winner. A break away goal for Cesena is probably just as likely.

Fuck it.
Finished one all.
In truth though despite having the lions share of possession we rarely threatened to score once Cesena equalized and on that alone we didn't deserve the three points. We just lacked the cutting edge needed and hopefully it is a once off rather that a season long trend.
On the bright side Cesena aren't a bad side, would normally expect to be fighting for promotion but in this game they were definitely happy with the point.
Onward and more importantly upwards, at the end of the season that is.

It has been another good week for Verona, both on and eh, coming off the pitch.
A great 1-2 win in the cup against Seria A side Palermo means they are through to the quarter finals and a juicy tie with Internationale on December 17th.
In the league they were somewhat fortunate as they trailed 2-1 away to Cittadella when fog late in the game caused the match to be abandoned due to poor visibility. With both Livorno and Sassuolo winning a loss would have been a blow to our automatic promotion hopes.

Has the wobble started?
On the back of some unconvincing displays recently Verona were beaten 2-0 by forth placed Brescia. Not in itself a disaster but worrying all the same as we have a history of imploding after a good start.
We are now ten points behind the leaders Sassuolo with two games in hand and six behind Livorno with a single game in hand.
I was really hoping to an claim automatic promotion spot as I wouldn't fancy our chances in the play offs.
Lets hope we can win all those games in hand and kick on again.
Next up is at home game against Ascoli, who are in the bottom half of he table

Well the good run has well come to an end for Verona.
That fog shouldn't have bothered it's arse causing the abandonment of the original game with Cittadella because they went and lost the replay anyhow 2-1. Following on from that they dropped more points because of a 1-1 with Pro Verceilli and now trail second place Livorno by six points and division leaders Sassuola by ten.
We can only hope that Verona have been somewhat distracted by their upcoming cup quarter final with Internationale, which is on tonight, because if their form and results don't improve very soon, they will find themselves too far adrift from the automatic promotion places very soon.

Well at least we wont be distracted by the cup any more🙁

An even first half, in which both sides had numerous half chances, was turned on it's head within eight minutes of the start of the second with Inter scoring two quick goals.
Indeed Inter had a couple of good chances to extend their lead further before Verona got their act together and started creating chances of their own.
Inter were reduced to ten men after eighty minutes when their keeper went off injured while making another fine save, having already used all three subs.
Despite relentless pressure and numerous excellent chances Verona could't breach the Inter defense and they will have to look back with disappointment at the number of chances they spurned in the last thirty minutes of the second half.

Ah well, back to the pursuit of promotion from Seria B I guess

Bye the way, does anyone actually read this shit?
Is it worth while continuing?

Is it worth while continuing?

I read it 🙂

I saw the Verona game against Inter in Milan the other day.

There was probably 15,000 fans at the game all up ... I'd say 9,000 were travelling Verona fans 🙂

All right then.
I will keep it going for another while.
I am just aware that it is not exactly journalistic quality.
In my defense any game I do get to watch (and I try to if I can) is normally on a shitty stream with the sound turned off so the Countessa can watch whatever soap is on, so I hardly know what is happening. Even worse is the Seria B simulcast when I catch the occasional glimpses of the match.
Good enough excuses for you then?

A nervy 1-0 home win against Juve Stabia on Sunday, thanks to yet another penalty from Danielle Cacia, will hopefully have steadied the ship somewhat.
Today we travel to Empoli, currently in eight and having their own ambition of making a play off place, so a win there would be great for maintaining momentum. Three points would also mean that we definitely close the gap on either Livorno or Sassuola who play each other today.
A win for runaway leaders Sassuola would probably be the best result from that match as they are ten points clear and looking uncatchable. Overtaking Livorno, currently four points clear in second, seems like a more realistic target and I doubt if any Verona fans would turn their noses up at second and automatic promotion to Seria A.

Just in case you though I was being a complete lazy arse Seria B is on it's winter break at the moment and Verona's next match isn't till next weekend.
The match against Empoli ended in a 1-1 draw and although it seems like a poor result Verona's equalizing goal goal came late in stoppage time and having been resigned to defeat it seemed like a point gained in the end.
Verona's final game of 2012 was a comfortable 3-1 win over Modena.
Other results means that we are now four points off Livorno in second place and eight behind leaders Sassuolo.
So at this stage, half way through the season the least of our ambitions should be to make the play offs. Being Thirtenn points clear of seventh it would take a disasterous second half of the season to miss out.
Hopefully though we can kick on and have a real go at sealing automatic promotion. With both Livorno and Sassuolo having to come to Verona two wins in those games could well be pivotal.
Stay tuned😉

Okay, Okay this time I have been a bit of a slacker.
The winter break is well over and Verona have played two league games since the resumption of hostilities.
First up was an away game against Spezia and a one nil win courtesy of that man again Danielle Cacia with a late winner on first glance looked like a decent result.. However Spezia who were early season contenders for a playoff spot have been on a poor run of form of late, losing four of their last five games.
Verona were on the road again for their next game, travelling to Reggina. An early goal from Cacia yet again was cancelled out with fifteen minutes left and the game ended in a draw.
Four points from six should have seen us lose ground against the two leading teams but Livorno had the same amount of points and Sassuolo, who seem to be starting to struggle, only managed a single point and have lost two and drawn one of their last four games.
They are now only one point ahead of second placed Livorno and five ahead of Verona and are being sucked back into the.fight for automatic promotion.
At this point it is still all to play for and it does seem like it will be two from the current top three that get the automatic promotion spots.
Our over reliance on Daniella Cacia for our goals, he is the division's top goalscorer this season, is a bit of a concern.
However with both Livorno and Sassuolo both having to come to Verona, it is shaping up to being a nail biting end to the season.

I am giving up predicting what is going to happen next in this race to Seria A.
First the opposition.
Sassuolo, who I confidently predicted were being sucked back into the automatic promotion places proceeded to go on a great run winning their next four games. Well that's them sorted it would seem. But no wait, they went and lost a straightforward looking home fixture against Grosetto and with their next game an away trip to play off chasing Varese they could once again be dragged back into the automatic promotion race.

Livorno's form has been patchy losing three from five, two of them winnable home games. If anything their away form has been better than their home recently, which may give them some comfort going into their trip to Verona in a few weeks time.

Ah yes, Verona. they had worked their way into a decent position just behind the front two and in a great position to exploit any slip ups. Onwards and upwards awaited.

First up was the routine looking game against lowly Vicenza. Seventy five minutes of total domination still resulted in a blank score sheet and was made all the more painful when Vicenza scored with almost their first foray into the Verona half. Sound familiar? Despite a frantic finish to the game a surprise defeat could not be avoided.
I didn't get to see any of the next game but we were reduced to ten men after forty eight minutes and Novara made the most of their player advantage to score, and run out 1-0 winners.

Two games and two loses and suddenly we are closer to forth than second. The next game, against forth place Varese had become even more important and it was with some relief that Verona got back to winning ways with a 2-0 victory.

Our last game was a trip to Bari and while it wasn't completely one sided Verona were the team on top for the majority of the game. They were the team that were trying to play patient football and totally deserved their lead when Martinho scored after twenty eight minutes. Many more chances came and went with the normally lethal Cacia having a shocker and missing a few gilt edged chances. As the clock ticked down we were anticipating a nervous last fifteen minutes defending the slenderest of leads. A sending off for our opponents seemed to have tipped the balance our way but instead it seem to galvanize the Bari players. It was indeed a very nervous final fifteen minutes and despite having the extra man, we were only able to breath easily again when Martinho score his second of the game with a break away goal in the first minute of injury time.
So as of now, with a game against Padova tomorrow evening, we lie four points behind Livorno and eleven behind Sassuolo having played one game less than both. It is almost a case of as you were from the last report but who knows how the race is going to pan out. I ain't making any predictions because I have made a fool of myself doing that shit before.

FFS.
We fucking lost.
Again.
0-2
Two steps forward to steps back.🙁

I was in Liverpool for the Tottenham game so didn't get a chance to see any of the Seria B footy over the weekend.

Verona bounced back from their latest home defeat and set back with a comfortable 0-2 away win, even if it was against a bottom of the table Grosetto.
Two first half goal courtesy of a penalty from Ferrari and Cacciatore were enough to secure the points.
Worryingly though, Daniele Cacia, Verona top goal scorer and player of the season so far has now gone six games without finding the back of the net. we really need his goals to fire us into Seria A so the sooner his drought is over the better.

In other relevant results Sassuolo continued with thier charge toward the title with a thrilling 3-4 win away to promotion chasing Varese.
Livorno however slipped up once again, only managing a 3-3 home draw against relegation threatened Reggina.
Verona are now only two points behind Livorno who currently occupies second place and so the scene is perfectly for Friday night when third meets second. With both teams almost having better away than home form of late it would not be surprising to see the visitors atone for their earlier home loss to Verona.
Let's hope not.

So how they placed in the league so far ?

Any chance of promotion ?
Top two are automatically promoted.
Next four go into a play off for one further spot.
We are two points behind second place Livorno, who we play next.
All to play for.

So a very good chance you could be back amongst the shiney heights of Seria A next season ?

Could have some great Italian teams to watch at home next season..

We have a history of snatching defeat from the jaws of victory so I am not counting my chickens.
Hopefully we do it. We have been in the wilderness too long.
It would mean that I would have to keep the thread going next season though😉
