Glen Johnson

Tbh I only saw him from about the 37th minute onwards, but he was one of the better players on the pitch in that time. He was up and down the touchline most of the second half, with little in the way of assistance from Borini/Downing. If it hadn't have been for the tracking for the first goal, he would have been in my top 3.

He didn't do anything wrong in the first goal, he was covering his open side, had Allen tracked back first it wouldn't have happened.

I hate doing it but I'm whacking this moron cretin on ignore.

I've read about 60 of his posts in ten minutes and my shoulders have tensed up.

If I read one more I'm going to start to grind broken glass into my scrotum.

welcome to the good side of the force

It wasnt just the goal, he was nowhere a few times and they constantly exploited space down his side. He also had a few lapses where he dwelled on the ball in worryingly familiar fashion. So much for putting these type of performances behind him.

He starts the move stood next to Podolski, tracks his run then hesitates halfway back towards goal and loses the yard on him that ends up being crucial. Watch it again Jon, if he doesn't switch off for that split second he has it covered.

I don't think Glen had one of his best games but for the first goal I blame Agger and Skrtel's positioning.

When you apply pressure as high as we do under Rodgers your central defenders needs to stand far further up the pitch and closer together, which they didn't. Glenjo is asked to add up numbers and as such need the backline to stand as high as possible as he'd otherwise will run himself into the ground having to track a full length pitch back everytime.

The issues with the goal was initially gerrards, during the first half he couldn't pass to anyone, then we left corzola(was it) to run for 20-30 yards without anyone getting a tackle in(where was allen or sahin). Then after all of that you could maybe look at johnson, but there are far too many other issues to highlight before him.

Finally. Someone gets it. Allen stood in the centre circle watching corzola run past him with the ball. He simply needed to check his run, get a yellow at worst if he's unlucky & clumsy doing it.

Then Johnson is ball watching, true, but cos cbs were so far back he then had more than one person to track so tried to close down the angle. Wrong call, but understandable

Btw, to give some context, I thought Allen was still great yesterday, esp when considering how poor his teammates were.

Johnson shows the odd moment of class but in the main, i'm of the opinion he's a shit footballer, really shit.

He finds it very difficult to do the basics of defending such as closing down his man, marking up, tackling, being positonally aware.

He had one great season for Pompey and scored a few wonder goals which raised his profile as a player and with him being English even more so.

He's of course not the only liability we have in the team. Reina, Enrique and Gerrard are really letting us down at the minute, experienced players you'd expect much more from.

Very harsh analysis.

Shelvey did the same for the second and it's been sweepers under the carpet.

Shelvey is white.

Bunch of racists....

Based on this thread and others, I'm beginning to think some of you watch Liverpool concede shambolic goals again, and again, and again.

I only watch the good goals again and again. Which means I've had all sorts of free time recently.

It also explains the cheery attitudes prevalent on here.

Yeh, although quite a few of us were saying this in the match thread, Johnson, Sahin, Allen and Gerrard are all to blame for the goal. Allen should have done more as should Sahin, Johnson should have tracked his run, Gerrard gave it away. The fundamental problem was that all game Cazorla had run reign of the pitch, it's harsh on Allen because it's not his natural job, however if Lucas was playing, he'd have had Cazorla in his pocket, handling players like Cazorla and Silva is what Lucas is one of the best around at doing.

Johnson was superb again for England this week, how can it be that England's most attacking threat is their right back.

I really think sometimes he should fuck the RB and just become a winger, he has the skill to do what Bale did when switching

Bale didn't really switch though. He'd played as much in midfield as he had at LB before joining Tottenham. Magic's played a few games at RM at times but successive managers have decided not to play him further forward with any regularity. They can't all be wrong.

true, I just get annoyed when like against Ukraine he is superb going forward then critised for his defending, it is hard to be both ask Roberto Carlos.

Glen is a special talent and if he cannot bomb forward as much as he likes at RB then play him at RW.

I often wondered this too. The few games he played for us at RM he's had crackers. However, I thought it was only Kenny that played him there.

I wasn't referring to him playing there for us, which I don't remember either TBH. He did have a few games there for Pompey and a very occasional one for Chelsea before that.

You're wrong.
