No its not speculation or opinion - it is what actually happened. Lets take a classic example - Emile Heskey for Liverpool and England. His first season with us he scored I think 17 goals and Owen was out injured and it seemed he was carrying the team. Later seasons he contributed, and him and Owen had a good partnership, but as he was starting to be played out of position through no fault of his own but the managers instructions - and therefore was scoring less - people just turned on him, forgot the first season he had with us and his good performances. Same with England - when he came onto the scene and took apart Ayala in the freindly against Argentina - he was hailed as Shearer's successor. Sven tried to replicate the Heskey/Owen partnership, I don't know why but at some point people just laughed when he was in the team and did not want him near that team. For me - Heskey did a lot more than Joe Cole has done for either LFC/England but if Joe Cole was to have a great season at club level - I can imagine they would still call him up thinking that he may come good for England when in so many attempts he has been pretty shit.

I love the fact that Heskey was used as an example, an abject failure as a goal scorer for years riding on an initial show of brilliance and yet come world cup time, even at the end of his career, the phone was ringing.

i cannot express how much i enjoy this site and having these debates and i dont think any of u are racists. it is really difficult to express what i was implying and i think u have to be a person of colour to understand. as for bringing muslims and jews into the debate - thats just silly, i was only focussed on the colour of the player.
