It was 5 and a half years ago. Thats a decent spell of time since the last time we arguably did anything smart

the only other thing i would say is maybe the Jota deal was smart; insofar as to how it was structured. But based on his injury record i dunno if it'll be seen as smart in 2 or so years time when he inevitably leaves for free
Well I've mentioned a few other things on top of the Coutinho sale & reinvestment which I think can be deemed valid smart pieces of business.

As long as come Sep 1st we can say we've been smart in learning our lessons from last summer that's all that matters to me, not repeating the same stupid mistake again.

I genuinely don't have faith in the club to do that. We'll go in to the season 1 cm short, and 1 cb short but klopp will says its enough. There will be an injury crisis late september, and klopp will have his hissy fit at the media. January we might make an astute purchase, but it'll be in vain. Then summer roles around, and then a different problem area of the pitch will fail to be rectified....and so on for eternity

There's lack of planning and disjointed thinking and Klopp has to take his share of the blame along with PSG.
If you're forced to have sell to buy model, you need to sell.
The recruitment of youth talent seems to be to find kids that might cost a few hundred ks and then sell them on for for couple of mills, but the reality is many of them just get released.

The flip side of that despite what that Mekon-headed twat at “We Do What We Want FC” says, is that there’s a reason why Klopp likes to keep a tight core of players over a long period of time rather than chop and change loads every years.

Players get to know each other, how they’ll move, what sort of passes they play, when someone’s triggering a press, where to cover if someone pushes on a run, etc.

That’s what makes Klopp teams seemingly over-perform.

We could live the dream of adding 4-5 new players each season and we’d likely be all over the place.

Actually look at how many “new” players City integrate into the squad most seasons - it’s only about 2 max that end up playing a reasonable amount of games.

Not unlike what we do…

Yeah this kid is the real deal

Look something's awry in the club. FSG got lucky with Klopp and their model just won't get us to long term success past one amazing manager. It's a purple patch. They're blowing a great foundation. Several signings this summer would convince us otherwise, but it seems unlikely given the backroom issues.

I hope I'm wrong, but they look like a few blokes who have moved on and aren't really able to give it their dedicated focus anymore.

Another absolute bollox signing. This guy is not physically developed, we dont need an Elliot Fabio tyoe, we want players that look like proper man meat.

You probably would have said the same about Messi. We are not going for this kid, most likely he'll end up at Dortmund or Benfica unless real offer stupid money. He isn't player for today bit tomrorrow

We should always be willing to put down good money for young, tightly talented players, given our academy isn't one that consistently produces and we need to outperform our rivals with less. The wages are cheap, they can support the first-team squad, and you rarely lose money. Even Carvalho, who hasn't kicked a ball in 7 months, still has decent suitors willing to pay more than we did. The issue (to date) is we've signed players who are not natural fits for Klopp's system and their development 'plan' appears an after-thought. Elliott did alright securing a loan at Blackburn. Still, the club should have recognised that Carvalho staying at Fulham for another year was in everyone's interests, or at least sorted out a loan in January.

If I'm a young star player (think the likes of Bellingham at Birmingham, etc), I want to know what each year of my development looks like, mapped out, how I fit in the manager's system, and the steps needed to get there. We may well be doing that, but from the outside, it appears a bit more ad-hoc bolt-on of our recruitment strategy rather than one with the amount of focus needed to yield amazing results.

Are you trying to tell us there isn’t enough proper man meat in your life?

I think he'd be 1 of them type of signings we'd look to sign and loan straight back out (preferably to a Prem club).

Then his value will rise from 15m to about 40m, then after 1 season with us he'll rise to 140m.

His dad appaz wants 15-20 mill as signing bonus.

How is this sort of thing legal?
Is he acting his agent or something. Even agents themselves are bound my more rules than this.
We got done for incentives like private educatuon for signing school boys but parents are allowed to demand millions?

Not sure, but surely has to be his agent or part of that. Haalands dad got about 40 mill as a signing bonus.

It's not, it's a fucking joke it what it is.

You can't sign a player nowadays unless £X amount goes to a) club b) agent c) family d) their charity fundraise e) their dying dogs wishes f) the next generation in their family etc

At present, pretty much anyone can register as an intermediary and the fees are ultimately negotiated between the buyer and them and there is no upper limit.
From January window onwards, new rules with restrictions on payments and higher standards for registering as an intermediary will apply. No doubt the agents have already found some wheezes to get around them.

Thanks Beamrider
I have no issue with agents taking a cut which is fair and relative as I do see point of them in certain use cases but will be interesting to see how this intermediary is managed in Jan then.
