Has anyone been following him in the MLS?

Read this funny article today:

Toronto FC's Sebastian Giovinco Should Leave MLS Immediately

By Rucker Haringey 1d ago

If you’ve clicked on this headline expecting to read the article of an MLS hater you’re in the wrong place. I appreciate the top American league’s fast and significant progression over the past several season and believe it has a bright future. Nonetheless, top-level players who compete in the MLS during their peak physical years are making a large mistake. The best example of this today is Sebastian Giovinco wasting his time at Toronto FC.

The Italian striker has only been in MLS for just over a season, but he has taken the league by storm. His impact has been both impressive and immediate. In his first year with Toronto, he broke the MLS record for combined goals and assists in a season while carrying his side to their first ever franchise playoff berth. Suffice it to say that for Toronto FC, it has been a marvelous signing.

The move has also been good for Giovinco to date. He was floundering at Juventus prior to the move and it has allowed him to regain his confidence. He went from a much maligned figure for the Serie A giants to a hero almost instantly. You could practically see the light reappear in his eyes and the bounce reemerge in his steps as he pounded in goal after goal in MLS.

Aside from the obvious mental benefits for Giovinco, there’s also the small matter of it solidifying his status as an Italian international. He had been involved numerous times for the national team prior to his MLS time, but his status was very much in doubt before his play picked up after the move. If he had not found a successful transfer out of Juventus his international career would likely be over. There’s no question the diminutive striker owes a great deal to his MLS move. It likely saved his football career.

While the move originally saved his career, staying too long in MLS puts it at risk all over again. While the level of MLS play in recent years has improved quickly and dramatically, it’s still nowhere near the level of the world’s best leagues. Giovinco, to his credit, has been the best player in MLS during his tenure. His 22 goals finds him tied for the league lead in goals and his Whoscored.com rating also puts him first in the league. There’s little more he could do, aside from leading Toronto to a championship, that he hasn’t already accomplished in MLS.

This is why he must leave at his earliest opportunity. Giovinco, despite his baby face, is not a terribly young player. He is already 28-years-old which means he is entering his prime as a footballer. He should not spend the best years of his career in a league that he’s already proven he can dominate. Now is the time for Giovinco to push for a transfer back into one of the world’s top leagues. He doesn’t have to return to Serie A, but he should spend the best years of his career challenging himself to the fullest.
The wisest plan for Giovinco would be to move away from MLS to a top league for a few years and then stage a glorious return once his game has started to wane ever so slightly. He could come back as the conquering hero, content with the knowledge that he had pushed himself to his competitive limits without fail.

Sebastian Giovinco has already proven he is the best player in Major League Soccer. If he really wants to have the best career he can, he has to leave before it’s too late. Otherwise his career will always be defined by his years as a big fish in the relatively small MLS pond.

22 goals in 32 games.

Check out this goal.

he's been phenomenal ... he's happy, playing great footy .... he should stay there unless he wants to challenge himself again!

Skip to 0:30. I think I just came in pants. BUY HIM! BUY HIM NOW!

He can be our Zola.

It would be good for people to remember that, I ask for this thread to be closed as its asking for the proven absurd!

Sure, it's about nationality...it's about as absurd as me saying look at Carroll, Downing, Lallana, Cole, Konchesky etc.

I don't know how much this dude would cost but he is fast approaching 29 and God knows what his salary is? With our luck with Italians, do we really want to go down that route again?

Changed the game when he was subbed on for Italy against Norway last week.
Moving to Toronto at 28 surley says something about his ambitions though.

Great little player mind.

For the record I wasn't serious about signing him.

"It's about" Aquilani, Borini, Balotelli - repeated failure by players from one particular country (it happens to be Italy, it could be anywhere) to get to grips with playing for us in the Prem. And before you start squawking about some imagined national prejudice, I wanted Ancelotti over Klopp.

I'm pretty sure redhorizon2 just doesn't want any Italian players. Because they are Italian. From Italy.

It's still not about nationality, it's about buying the right player from that specific nation.
How is Darmian doing at Man U?
Or how did Zola and Vialli do?
Ravanelli at Boro?
Di Canio?
Pelle at Southampton?

We don't have a good record buying French players, should we never buy another Frenchman again?
Or Senegalese players?
Or Cameroonians?
Or Moroccans?
Or Malians?

Not bothered about other clubs. My focus is on LFC and Italian players have consistently failed here in a big way, through two managerial regimes.

The issue of French players is another matter. That involved one manager only, and one of them - Anelka - was a big success. Houllier's refusal of a permanent deal for Anelka was his first serious mistake.

I'm not going to dignify that rubbish about African players and black people with a reply.

Or which Italian players we buy. That would be a good start.

Dossena - not suited for the league, shite
Aquilani - signed injured. Not suited for the league. Certainly not the position he was ment to replace
Balotelli - well, doesnt need a comment
Padelli - was just shite

If we buy the right type of players, I dont think being Italian has anything to do with wheter or not they'll succeed.

Hansern: instinctively I'd want to agree. In practice such a long list (I'd forgotten Dossena and Padelli) suggests otherwise.

Maybe mate, or it highlights how flawed our transfers have been. There arent many players in Serie A that I would want now anyway. And those I want arent Italian 🙂
With Klopp in charge we'll hopefully look more to the Bundesliga instead.

Italians are fucking shit in England.
Total shit.

They can fuck off. I dont want one.

Totally agree... Somethings just don't work somewhere. I don't think Italian players work for us. Bring a player on loan have no issue with that, buy a young prospect again no issue with that (less than £8m), but totally against any big money signing from Italy.

Jesus Christ.
I wasn't expecting an answer it was a joke.
I went from Italian to french, to sengalese to african to black people in general. Are you kidding me?
My post was so overly stupid I thought it was pretty obvious.
I'm sorry for the misunderstanding.

You should not joke about buying Italians... its no longer a joking matter. The pain is still raw.
