Fulham Pre-Match

To be honest the tube side is less of a worry for me for going to the game tomorrow. I worked in london yesterday and had a mare trying to get out of paddington towards Reading as Maidenhead is flooded. I might not be able to go tomorrow now regardless of tubes

I'll buy your ticket if youre looking to get rid?

thanks

@RorySmithTimes pointing out on twitter than londoners are spoilt by the Tube & the rest of the country copes without it.

Poor bastard is getting some shit for simply stating the obvious.

It's arguably much more difficult to get to Anfield on any match day than it is Fulham without the Tube.

If you want a laugh, go to the Game of Thrones facebook page and laugh at the Londoners reaction when they see that the exhibition they put on of the props used in the show isn't going to London but goes to Belfast.

I agree. I took a taxi there and it was so EXPENSIVE! more than 15 pounds if I remember. Are there no buses from Liverpool One?

Not sure about direct from Liverpool one, but there's definitely buses from town that drop you literally right outside Anfield, they may start at Queens square bus stops though, but that's only a five minute walk from Liverpool one.

It seems ridiculous it is even under threat, surely the disruption is minimal see statement below.

" Transport of London hopes to run should the strike go ahead. Trains will run between 07:00 and 23:00, although services will start to wind down at 21:30"

To aid it why isn't kick off brought forward to 19:45 in line with all the other premier league fixtures, that means the game will be over around 21:30.

Why not? Because it would suit Fulham not to have to play us now, when we're flying. They actually have a stake in the game not going ahead IMO.

When I visited Liverpool (in the summer) as a tourist I took a bus from the City Centre (Queens Square) early in the morning. I had only a very rough idea of where Anfield was and no map or directions other than the bus number I skimmed off the net (LFC website actually come to think of it).

Intuitively I got off at Walton Road but walked off in the wrong direction through Walton until I found myself at the gates of the Anfield cemetery. Finally got my bearings right then went back down and found Goodison Park before I figured if I'd just walk round the perimeter of Stanley Park I'd eventually reach Anfield, which I did.

Whole journey took me almost 90 min. (Though I did take in the sights)

I know it was mostly me being a complete and utter dimwit (and refusing to ask any locals in case since it would feed into the complete OOT image esp in Everton territory) but I have to say it isn't easy to get to at all. I can imagine the bus must be crowded on match days.

I got a cab from Lime Street, cost me like £2 (between 3), absolute bargain. Same journey would cost me about £15 back home.

Of course they do! If there was talk of all the London games being called off, then fair enough but this is just a club trying to stall for time and it should not be entertained or there should be questions as to how they managed to put a game on on Boxing Day and on the previous tube strike day. Especially as there will be 60,000 at the Emirates the same night.

That is tonight. The game is tomorrow night, so the 48hr strike will be in full effect.

The club expect to make a further announcement on the situation at 3pm on Tuesday.

The statement read: “Following a number of enquiries regarding how the potential London Underground strike action may affect Wednesday evening’s fixture against Liverpool, the club can confirm that it is currently proceeding on the basis that the game will go ahead.

“However, the club has concerns over the potential impact that the strike may have on the ability of its safety staff to attend the ground in sufficient time and numbers to ensure that it is able to open the ground and effectively operate it, from the time that the gates are open to the public until the departure of all supporters.

“After consulting with the Local Authority and the Metropolitan Police, it has been decided that if the proposed action is still undetermined at 3pm tomorrow (Tuesday), and the club cannot guarantee enough staff are available to attend the ground in sufficient time and numbers, then as a consequence the club would not be able to comply with the terms of its safety certificate and the fixture would be postponed and rescheduled for a future date.”

As has been mentioned : just pay for their bloody taxis ! End of.

I always get a cab to the ground but there are a few of us to share the cost.

The soccer bus will take you straight to Anfield and there is another bus that does the Anfield Run too. You could walk straight there from town and it will take you about 40 mins. I had to run back to lime street before to catch a train.

I guess I do want the game to go ahead. However it will ultimately help us in terms of our preparation for Arsenal game if it does get postponed. I guess I'm not arsed either way.

Reading that, it's going to be called off, because I've heard no news of them cancelling the strike.

I always want us to play. I don't like playing catch up.
Thinking about it - I also don't like playing catch up. In my head I always assume those 3 points are in the bag but it NEVER works out that way.

Exactly, imagine how bad it will be for us having Spurs on equal points as us for the next two months. Really puts us under pressure just because Fulham want to pull a fast one.

The fa need to show some balls here & step in.

Sadly they have none. Unfortunately we've come a long way pr wise in many ways, but I can't help but think if this was Utd under Fergie they'd have come out all guns blazing at Fulham & the FA to make it as difficult as possible t justify calling it off.

I just think it's bad psychologically for us to be lower down the league table. It gives our rivals a boost and heaps more pressure on us - apparently they're not proposing to play the fixture for 7 weeks! Plus this should be a good time to play Fulham anyway.

Personally I'd much prefer the chance to keep the pressure on our rivals in the PL than a few extra days prep for the FA cup.

100%

Unless Spurs lose, then it'll be hilarious to be ahead of them with a game in hand.

that's a big IF of course

Very much so.

I'm disappointed (but not surprised) that the club haven't come out with a robust response to this shit.

Yeah but London is the center of the known universe, didn't ya know? Why should they possibly have to put up with a 20 minute walk!
