Flanno

Yes. In terms of the current squad. He's never going to be exceptional, but he's in on merit.

This is precisely why you want a healthy youth set up - Flanno will never be a 'world class RB' or even considered amongst the best RBs in the league. However, he competes 100% of the time, is improving his overall play and rarely makes mistakes. Just like United's titles of the last two decades were aided by Butt, O'Shea, Evans etc, so will players like Flanno do that for us. He's there by merit - and as his confidence improves, he'll become even more of a nuisance in his attacking play ... A excellent squad option worst case scenario that didn't cost us anything ...

Johnson will apparently be fit by next week. Does he start ahead of Flanno?

I don't think Rodgers will drop him - Agger didn't get back in immediately either.

It's a measure of how far he has come when I think it was last season... or was it the most recent game against Arsenal? Anyway, he was brought in for an ill Johnson and I had an overwhelming feeling of dread.
Now I would have in the team ahead of Johnson anyday of the week and feel extremely confident about it.

I think the question should probably be whether he deserves to be the starting left back, because I think Rodgers will move him over to accommodate Johnson once the latter returns. That's if he believes Johnson's shitness over the last year is down to him playing through injuries.

I don't have an issue with Flano being on the left - it helps develop him and he's shown this season he can play on both sides with the same effectiveness. He's not going to pull up any trees on the attack (right now), but he keeps his head down and works really hard and does his job at the back, and I'm glad he's improved by leaps and bounds this season.

I'm more than happy to eat humble pie re Flanno. I had written him off and cringed every time I saw his name on the teamsheet after those poor performances last season.

But the lad has really improved and cemented his place in the first team.
He deserves to start now and is improving every game. What surprised me the most yesterday was his passing. It was sublime at times.
He'll never be a world beater but first and foremost he's a very good defender and not afraid of anything. I'm chuffed to bits for him. Hope he continues in the same way and keeps Johnson on the bench.

Why would anyone change the defence right now? It's finally looking solid. Last week was individual error, and yesterday the mistake leading to the pen was from our most experienced player, from midfield, otherwise it'd have been another clean sheet.

I'd be tempted to put Johnson at left back. He's a better left back even when half fit than Cissokho is.

I'd leave the whole team unchanged until fatigue (shouldn't be happening now) or injury forced my hand.

Me too. I actually think he concentrates a bit better when he's on the left anyway. Never seen him play badly at LB.
