Fixture list 2012/13

The new PR people will need to work hard to play down expectations and maintain some support for Rodgers, because it'll only take a couple of losses at the start to trigger the 'crisis' coverage. Rodgers has been asked to develop the playing style and sort out the squad, and so he deserves serious help to manage the pressure in the opening few weeks.

That's not what I would do. After one look at the fixture list I'd start sifting through the squad looking for scapegoats and patsies. The surest way for Rodgers to make it through the first months unscathed is to have the defeats be blamed upon Adam, Cole, Spearing, or Maxi. Then make himself look like a hero by shipping those losers out before the transfer window shuts.

Manchester United will be unhappy at 2012-13 Premier League fixtures
• United play away after five of their Champions League games
• Manchester City have only one trip after European action

Sir Alex Ferguson is likely to be deeply unhappy with the Premier League fixture list after it emerged that Manchester United will have to play away from home after five of their six midweek Champions League group matches, including trips to Liverpool, Newcastle United, Chelsea and Aston Villa. The other away game is against Manchester City at the start of December.

With City at home in the Premier League when United are away, it follows that the champions have only one trip to make after midweek European action. That game is against Chelsea at the end of November.

The situation is almost a reversal from last year, when City were away from home after all six of their Champions League group ties while United had the benefit of playing at Old Trafford after every European midweek game during the group stage.

Chelsea also have only one away match after their Champions League group games (against Sunderland) while Arsenal have three trips (Manchester City, West Ham United and Villa) to make.

Ferguson has complained about the Premier League fixture list in the past. He was unhappy in the 2008-09 season that United were forced to play away from home after each Champions League away fixture.

He also expressed his annoyance that they had to play each of the previous season's top nine away from Old Trafford in the first half of the season and suggested that United would send a representative to the Premier League to monitor how the fixtures are worked out ahead of the 2009‑10 campaign.

I am not convinced Stu.
Having witnessed how quick;y people turned on our previous manager I would be very nervous of the reaction to a bad start for Rodgers

I hear you. I feel there is a sense of realism around the place right now.
Most know we are very weak and need a lot of work and some astute signings.
Personally, my expectations are at their lowest ebb ever. The only way is up!

Anyone who's not expecting a flying start is a fool

In Rodgers we trust!

Anyone know when the sky fixtures for the first games are announced?
I am guessing that the Man City game will be a televised Sunday afternoon match

Asked the same yesterday myself.

It was around the 10th July or something last year so would imagine it would be a similar date again this year.

Also, anyone know when the Europa draw is? as that'll obv effect our fixtures with some game scheduled for a saturday, moved to a sunday.

The fulham game on the 22nd of Dec is interesting me. I'll be going home for Christmas and could make a flying visit to Liverpool. I wonder will it remain a Sat kick off or will they change it for TV purposes.

Nearly had a seizure when looking at the fixtures on the way back from work !!! anyone that says its a good thing or we will have to play them anyway is nuts !!! - Our current situation as someone has pointed out is that we will begin the season with a new manager, new players, and a new way of playing and to do all that facing your biggest rivals in the first 6 games is looking into a fucking gun barrel.

Not liking it either tbh. Going to be a very testing opening few months for Rodgers and the players(some new ones no doubt).

Not ideal to say the least.

Brillaint I'm home in September for 3 weeks and was hoping for a home game around the 22nd.

Ha ha could not be better! Proably have to pay 2/3 times the price outside the ground but will be well worth it.

Last utd game I got to Crouch scored the winner!

Roll on Sept!

Ah gotcha - no I mean haven't seen you around in a while. What's the view on our new season. Carlo ancelotti style league win for Rogers in first season?

Ha ha. To be honest I'm very optimistic and barring Lambrt getting a chance I'm happy with the appointment.

Everything he has said so far oozes Liverpool of old so it will be exciting to see if he can walk the walk after talking the talk. Howver our opening 5 fixtures are nightmarish so it will be a massive test.

Anything more than 9 points and I'd be delighted.

My missus just asked if we should go away with the binlids for the last week in August, but looking at the fixtures that's two of the best home games missed in one swoop.

Is there something on in Liverpool on the last week end in August (bar the footy)?
hotels seem very busy then.

You can stay in Krump Towers if you want Count.
Very kind of you to offer M but it is the entire clan coming over.
We will pick up a city centre hotel easy enough. The countess likes her luxury
