Playing an experimental team in such a crucial game has been a huge mistake. The Aurelio/Lucas CM partnership is woeful. Rafa needs to change it at HT, but will he? Will he fuck.

the first wasn't offside. they really need to review the offside rule because you have defenders who can see attackers offside out of the corner of their eye so don't push up so far and then the person with the bal plays to the attacker who is onside and the entire back line gets caught out. the offside rule is currently shit.
The ONLY decent through balls came from Aurelio - he played in Torres twice and put the ball on Kuyt's head for our only decent chance.

We have struggled to pick up their strikers when they drop deep to collect it. They have played some decent stuff, but been superb when pressing us. Torres and Gerrard have been too isolated, we can't keep the ball for long enough to work it up to them. Aurelio has been caught out positionally, which is no real surprise. I hope we can reconfigure our system tearly or we could get a thrashing here.

They are, but this is similar to several other performances where Gerrard/Torres get isolated and we look lubed up and bent over on the counter attack. Rafa got this one wrong.

I think the back 6 are getting more shit than is fair here.
The front 4 have been totally unable to retain the ball at all and are constantly losing it meaning Insua and Johnson are caught out of position again and again and the two holders are being pulled all over the shop.
Gerrard, Kuyt and Yossi have had bags of ball and done nothing but give it back and then show little effort tracking back. I feel a bit sorry for the defensive 6 tonight, theyre being shit on.
