Ferguson: Dalglish's handling of Suarez affair to blame for his sacking

Sir Alex Ferguson has re-ignited his rivalry with Kenny Dalglish by telling the former Liverpool boss that his handling of the Luiz Suarez race row cost him his job at Anfield.

Suarez, who was banned for eight games and fined £40,000 over the incident involving Patrice Evra last season, raked up the controversy earlier this week when he accused Manchester United of wielding too much political power in English football.

But Ferguson has hit back at the Uruguay striker and claimed that Dalglish's staunch support of his player - which included wearing a pro-Suarez T-shirt in front of the television cameras - helped convince Liverpool’s American owner John Henry to sack his manager in May.

'I wasn’t surprised at Kenny leaving,' said Ferguson. 'I think that the Suarez incident ... John Henry has obviously looked at that and felt it wasn’t handled in the right way. It certainly wasn’t a nice thing to happen you know. I think that must have been part of it.'

Ferguson criticised Suarez for re-opening the controversy in an interview in Uruguay this week, and insisted that the Liverpool player was wrong to blame United for the punishment handed out by an independent regulatory commission.

The Old Trafford boss claimed that it was Liverpool’s decision to call on a linguistics expert to try and explain Suarez’s use of the word 'negro' towards Evra that proved their downfall.

'I've seen he's gone back and talked about it,' added Ferguson. 'It's not going to go away if Suarez keeps on making headlines out of it.

'I don’t think that is anything to do with Manchester United. I think that was to do with Patrice Evra. But it wasn’t Evra’s contribution, it wasn’t Suarez’s contribution, it was the expert they called in to explain the cultural differences. He was the guy who killed Suarez.’

Ferguson also refuted Suarez’s claims that Evra was at fault for their failure to shake hands before the two teams met again at Old Trafford in February.

He said: 'The handshake was disappointing. He came out and said Evra’s hand was low. There is no doubt Evra put his hand towards him. I think Evra expected him not to shake hands. Evra actually said that to the lads.

'He just felt that he wasn’t going to shake his hand. He was sort of embarrassed to put his hand there.
'It's Suarez, he’s the one who should be making the effort to do something about it.'

No point reacting to his rambling and getting involved in a slanging match. The best way to respond is to do our talking on the pitch.

Racism case aside, I do believe Suarez's side of the story when it comes to the hand shake, he has his hand held out for Evra who just ignores it.

I think it's pretty obvious it played a part in his sacking. But if we'd qualified for the CL he'd still be in charge regardless

Hes a classless bully. I cannot respect his accomplishments because he is too petty and a long way from having even a morsel of honor..

it's not gonna go away if you keep making headlines about it, fergy.

Look Im no fan of Fergie but it was clearly Suarez himself who dragged this back into the public spotlight, in the same way he does anytime somebody sticks a microphone infront of him, if he wants to move on then he needs to shut up about it. If he wants to keep making an issue of it and protest his innocence then fine but dont expect Ferguson not to completely run rings around him in the media like he has done every step of the way through the whole fiasco.

He knew if he kept quiet and let Kenny have enough rope he would hang himself, now Luis wants to start throwing 'conspiracy' theories around, well he is just gonna be made to look a fool. No point in starting the mudslinging then claiming the moral highground when you dont like the response.

Suarez was a factor in Kennys sacking, but Andy Carroll was a much bigger factor

He's pretty much confirming Suarez's account that Evra held his hand back though.

People who backed Suarez at the time saying that were decried as loonies.

I think, in retrospect, that Henry would have sacked Kenny even if Suarez had been as good as gold all season. Anything less than making the top four would have finished him off. Maybe not even that. He just wasn't wanted. But Ginsoak is a nasty little shit for commenting at all - when he was facing the sack, it was Kenny who spoke up for him. That's the difference in class.

This. He really is just a bully. If anyone else got on like Ferguson and said the things he has done we would hear all sorts of cries from Utd. Even though this world is full of fuckers, it takes a special type of fucker to get to Ferguson's level of fuckerness.

About what? Kenny going? We knew that already. Suarez bringing it up again? Errrr.. what's Fergie doing? Probably exactly what Suarez did, responding to a question.

Fergie can get fucked, it baffles me why the fuck he has sympathisers on here who continuously look for reasons to see things from his point of view.

His club have a ridiculous amount of power and influence in the game. He's a malicious , scheming, horrible, despicable person who lacks any endearing features. If that's what makes him a winner, you can keep it, because he's a soulless, classless scumbag.

There will always be people who suck up to bullies like Ferguson. It's a way of persuading themselves that "he isn't THAT bad really" so they don't have to confront his sheer awfulness.

He's got a point.
No, he hasn't. Dalglish got sacked because we finished 8th. If we had finished top 4, Kenny wouldn't have gotten the sack regardless of what happened off the pitch with Suarez.

And he can go fuck himself, the fucking twat.
