Jota is the best finisher at the club, by some distance. There is no doubt about that, Salah used to scoring more and that’s great. He needs about 5 chances to score 1, Jota needs 1.5, 2 max. The problem is Salah is 10x the goal threat Jota is and thus 80% of the chances fall to him. Your biggest goal threats will usually be the ones the chances fall to, the last 18 months that has been Darwin and Mo. This is the only thing that matters when determining who your best finisher is (that’s score over X amount of goals). Salah with Jota’s finishing ability is on 300 goals right now, no exaggeration.

The stats disagree with you, by some fucking distance too. No attacker has a conversion rate of 50%!

33% or 1 in 3 is best ever conversion rate for a season.
For the record no Liverpool player gets near the top scores even Fowler.
Jamie Vardy impressively appears twice on the list.

I think what we all mean is that he’s more clinical than darwhizzy diaz or Gakpoo right now and we’re delighted he didn’t need a gazillion chances to score like they seem to.

It was just quite a contrast. None of them are natural finishers. He is. That’s the difference

That’s a very different stance and one I agree with. I’m delighted he’s back. 100% should be managed very cautiously as he’s proven he doesn’t need long to score.

[article]Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp admits Diogo Jota is now a main leader in his squad.

Klopp says the Portugal striker is a "decisive" performer for the Reds.

He said, "His football brain, he is a very smart footballer, that's how it is. He understands the game particularly well.

"I really think Portugal is blessed with some of these kind of players who really understand the game on a different level – and he is one of them, definitely. It gives him a chance to see situations slightly earlier, to adapt to different things the opponent is doing a little bit quicker. That's it, on top of that he is both-footed and a great finisher.

"I love Diogo's story, now he is back and I hope he is back for the next 10 years and stuff like this, all of that, but Diogo missed chances as well, that's how it is. That he comes back and scores with the first he has is fantastic, but then it's always the story that the others didn't score and now he is coming back… 'Finally Diogo is scoring!'

"It's not about that, it's about creating, it's about coming into situations and then they all can score. The goal from Darwin was an exceptional goal and in a game where we obviously had a lot of possession, a lot of fantastic football moments, the [first] goal we scored was from outside of the box with the first touch into the far corner, probably the most difficult of all situations we had in the whole game. It was a super finish.

"Then, yes, later Diogo closed the game, it was really good, but we need these boys and we need Diogo. Believe it or not, if you are a Liverpool player you must be a pretty special player otherwise you are not there. It's as easy as that. These boys have all their real qualities and always had. In the moment, for these last few games even when the results were not always outstanding, we found a good rhythm.

"We had a good rhythm in the game, good fluidity, which is really important, didn't get too often in a rush and really played in the way we wanted the boys to play and that's helpful. It's just helpful because it gives you a good feeling in the game, which is really important.

"You would probably call it momentum and for that you need to be connected, you need to be connected in the right moments. If you are connected you can lose balls because you can win them back quickly and all these kind of things. The rhythm was quite good recently."[/article]

Jota & Mo are great at finishing chances. Darwin has great at making himself available for lots of chances. Get those three on the field at the same time and we’ll be doing what the kids call cookin’

I think being equally comfortable with either foot gives him an advantage over most forwards; he’s also an excellent header of the ball. Some years ago I said he reminds me of Lewandowski in terms of how he “pre-programs” a series of quick actions to set up the shot and then executes them without thinking - it doesn’t always work, but when it does, it’s devastating. That goal against Burnley was definitely “pre-programmed.”

This is also why he might be eventually more effective as a super-sub - he can come in when his mind and legs are fresh and thus have a better chance to execute one of those devastating sequences.

Jota does 2 things better than our other forwards which makes him more efficient as a striker. The first is he always takes his chance as early as possible before keepers/defenders can get set to block, the second is he doesn't go for power he goes for placement, very little backlift and he will drive it low and towards the corner. You don't need power when you don't give the keeper a chance to react.

People often remark how unlucky Nunez is because he narrowly misses or hits the frame of the goal. It's not luck, he's trying to smash the ball into the corner and he's sacrifices accuracy for power. If Nunez would take 10% off his shots he'd be a better finisher.

Look at his injury record. Ke misses way too many games. With the way these owners are, we need to recycle players more. he has more than paid his transfer fee but the question is if we got someone more available would we better off?
