Here we go again, if anyone's in the least bit interested.

Fire Away. .

What level is the Irish league at these days in comparison with English Football.. ?

So a bit poor then..

What are the attendances like? Does irish football carry much of a following?

Depends on the team a bit. Sides like Shels and Derry get a bit of a following, a few thousand odd. And depends on how well they're doing too.

The problem is the quality. you can see better football on your TV. If an Irish footballer's any good, he's not playing in Ireland on a Saturday.

I'd disagree a bit Ryan. Some of the better teams, Sligo, Shamrock etc would easily slot into League One.

Ninja, the attendances are a bit hit & miss. Derry would see a couple of thousand tops, Sligo and again Rovers would top that and so in turn would probably reflect in their budgets and position in the league. On the other hand, a team like UCD (University College Dublin), who have a ground, players, and good training facilities (courtesy of the university) and a smattering of people of home games but that's always been the way. For example, the actor who played Father Ted, can't remember his name right now, Dermot something or other, was asked why he supported UCD, his answer was "I like the solitude" or something similiar.

The league have tried to counteract the attendance issue. The games have been played on Fridays for quite a few years now to balance out the people heading over to support, or who just sit on their arse in a bar going to see English (or Celtic) teams (and I'm guilty with Liverpool). They've also changed it to a more a less summer league which has also helped.

During the summer we sold two of our best players. Stephen McLaughlin has gone to Forest and Davy McDaid has gone to the mighty York City.

So the season has started and we're three games in. We're out of the all Setanta Cup (all Ireland competition) with a aggregated 3-2 defeat to Drogheda Utd. As for the league we had an abject performance against last years winners, Sligo Rovers, losing 0-1 at home. Saying that we bounced back with a massive 0-6 away win to UCD.

Again we've got some talented youngsters coming through the ranks. The one for the future is Barry McNamee, a great midfielder who can also play left back, he's very slight but has a fantastic eye for a pass and is great at reading the game. Rory Patterson may be making a return to the English leagues if he keeps his head, he should be up there as top goalscorer this season.

A win away to Cork City for the first time in 13 years. Rory Patterson last minute penalty.

Another victory. A 4-0 home win against Shelbourne. Always nice to beat the Dublin teams, although a few decisions did go our way.

I haven't been on for a while, so here's a very quick catch up. 6Wins on the trot followed by a good away draw. Then we buckled as usual at the league leader's Sligo, got hammered 3 nil. So 2nd in the league, good so far.

We've bounced back since those results. A win away at drogheda, then a cup win against derby rivals finn harps. Saying that we drew at home against Cork City which blew our chance to go top of the league. St Pats at the top although last years champions Sligo Rovers have a couple of games in hand.

Let me see... We've had two games since the last update. The latest a 3 2 win away to bray wanderers. That leaves us in 2nd place going into the mid season break.

Poor performance last night, beat 0-1 at home to Dundalk which now brings them to the top slots. Luckily a few other results went our way so we didn't loose too much ground on the leaders st Pats.

European action this week. A daunting away trip to Trabzonspor. 2 nil down within the first 15 mins. Rallied to make it 2-1 then a Derry og followed by another home goal, however Derry pulled another one back to make it 4-2 at the final whistle. Not bad for a part time team against a side who signed Malouda this week.

Two really poor results over the past few days. In the league we got beaten at home by title rivals Sligo Rovers who leapfrog us into 3rd place, we haven't beat them in ages. This was followed a home semi final defeat to Drogheda in the EA Cup, basically Ireland's league cup. We've 10 league games left so fingers crossed our for picks up.

Terrible run continues. Defeats in the league followed by a scoreless draw against a glorified pub team in the cup. The managers head is there for, er beheading.

Thanks! It's very much appreciated. I look at the 'viewed' but I always reckon its just me updating that boosts the numbers. Anyway, we git through the replay with a less than flattering 2-1 win.

We are atrocious. Lost 6 out of 8 games. The manager needs to go back to being the good coach that he is. Half the players can piss off.

Finished with a disaster of a few months. Finally finished 4th and sacked our manager. Mike Newell has been linked.

roll on next season.
