Shit comparison for obvious reasons. We dont have anyone who can do a good job on the right - except Gerrard.
Im sure you can think of someone who can do a decent job for Barca on the right beside Xavi. (Name begins with an 'M')
However we do have some decent players in midfield, in Meireles and Lucas (if he keeps it up).

We need a new left side, and a better partner for Torres, but I dont see what is so ridiculous about this lineup. Gerrard was brilliant playing on the right a few seasons ago, why not again?

I think that was to do with the fact that whoever was on the right wing was guaranteed to be taken off after 60 minutes or so.

But yeah, I don't think he likes playing there.

Haha, agree with 1 and 3, but 2! Come on, he's our best CM so play him there, or off torres.

I'd rather try Johnson at RM before using the Captain's versatility to take the most influential player on our team out of the most influential position. But Roy looks no more likely to try it than Benitez despite Kelly having proven himself defensively while Johnson has not.

I have always been very much against playing Stevie on the right. However, now that Kuyt is having a bit of a 'mare and Meireles is becoming a boss in midfield it would be worth at least considering it until we can sort things out during next transfer window.

Putting Stevie out wide wont be a long term solution anyway. We really need to buy at least one winger in January.

on a purely short term basis id have no problem with Gerrard starting nominally from the right (hes bound to wander inside) but long term it wont get the best out of him. He doesnt want to play there and his performances will suffer. At this stage I think Stevie is best suited to being the most advanced player in a 3 man midfield with Meireles and Lucas sitting behind him. This also means Kuyt is used as a wide forward rather than a winger which seems to be the best option for him
