Hell's teeth. I'd have thought he was worth well over a measly million to Everton. They must be absolutely desperate.
He's 33 though. Still, your probably right he's maybe worth more than that
It's his worth specifically to them that I was getting at, Sean. He's been absolutely invaluable in that squad, not just as a midfield player but as someone versatile enough to enable them to get along without a striker at all for long periods. Pienaar isn't a direct replacement, so they really are going to have do something about the gaping hole in their squad up front, or Fellatio may have to play there long-term.
The return of Szabolcs Huszti to Hannover 96 is complete. The 29 year old Hungarian international has signed a contract with 96 until June 2015, after returning from his spell with Russian Premier League side Zenit St. Petersburg for an undisclosed transfer fee.
Huszti met up with the team at the training camp in Bad Waltersdorf/Steiermark on Monday evening having completed his medical there. He will take his place with the squad on the training pitch for the first time on Tuesday morning. The left-footer, who scored 17 goals in 81 Bundesliga appearances between 2006 and 2009 during his first stint with Hannover, will be wearing the number 10 jersey.
“I’m happy that the transfer has gone through. Szabolcs Huszti will settle in again very quickly since he’s meeting up with a lot of old friends,” explained coach Mirko Slomka in Bad Waltersdorf. “His strengths are advantageous in attacking-left midfield. I’m convinced that he will raise the quality in our team yet again.”
Szabolcs Huszti, who moved into his shared room with former teammate Steven Cherundolo on Monday, is happy about his return: “It’s nice to be back. I had a great time in Hannover so I was delighted to return to 96. The coach put in a lot of effort to get me. For me that’s a good thing and clearly an important reason behind my signing. Since I left, the club has developed nicely, and I want to help with the rest of the journey.”
Barnsley Football Club have completed the signing of Liverpool winger Toni Silva on a two-year deal, subject to confirmation from the relevant footballing bodies.
The Portuguese youth international becomes Keith Hill’s fifth signing of the summer.
Hill said of his latest recruit: “He’s left-footed and likes playing on the right. He’s quick with and without the ball. He’s young and enthusiastic. There’s a lot of development we’ve got to put into this player to make him into a £3million player and I believe we will be able to do that.”
The 18-year-old joined Liverpool from Portuguese giants Benfica as a youngster and more recently featured for Northampton Town whilst out on loan in February.
The exciting prospect has featured at both Under 17 and Under 18 levels for Portugal and may feature for the Reds tomorrow against Stocksbridge Park Steels in the pre-season friendly clash at the Look Local Stadium.
Serie A side Bologna have announced the loan signing of Tiberio Guarente from Spanish club Sevilla.
The 27-year-old, who has been netted with a right to buy next summer, has spent the last two seasons in Spain.
A former Italian Under-21 international, the midfielder moved to La Liga in 2010 following spells at Verona and Atalanta.
Guarente’s first goal in Serie A actually came against Bologna, during the 2008-09 campaign while playing with the Bergamo outfit.
Leandro Greco is an Olympiacos player after he completed his transfer from Roma. “I’m very happy with my decision.”
The midfielder has signed a three-year contract with the Greek giants after bringing an end to his stint in the Italian capital.
“This move fills me with joy,” the 26-year-old, who was born in Rome, noted to the club’s TV channel. “I’ll give 100 per cent.
“I’ve already been to Athens with Roma and I’m happy because this is a marvellous environment to play your football. I’ll now give my best.”
Greco, who has spent loan spells at Verona, Pisa and Piacenza, will wear the No 27 jersey for his new outfit.
Leicester City have today (Tuesday) completed the signing of defender Zak Whitbread on a contract until June 2014.
Zak, 28, joins the Foxes following the expiration of his contract with Premier League club Norwich City, with whom he spent two-and-a-half seasons and won successive promotions to the top flight.
The former Liverpool and Millwall centre-back becomes Nigel Pearson's fifth new signing of the summer, following the arrivals of Ritchie De Laet, Matty James, Jamie Vardy and Marko Futacs.
City manager Nigel Pearson said: "Zak is a player of great quality that will add a huge amount of experience to the squad; I'm delighted we've been able to bring him here.
"He will be a great character to have as part of the group and, having only won promotion from the Championship a little over a year ago with Norwich, he knows exactly what it takes to get out of this division.
"We're really pleased with the business we have been able to do so far this summer, we have made some valuable additions to the squad and Zak certainly falls into that category."
Born in Houston, Texas before relocating to England at a young age, Zak is a graduate of the Liverpool academy and joined the Reds' first team squad in 2003. Later that year, he was called up to the USA squad for the FIFA World Youth Championships.
When opportunities were presented to him during his time as a pro on Merseyside, Whitbread invariably seized them with some outstanding performances both in the Carling Cup and in qualification for the Champions League.
A loan move to Millwall in November 2005 offered Zak the chance to play regular first team football and he made 27 appearances for the Lions before making the move permanent the following summer. He spent a further three-and-a-half years at the Den, making nearly 100 appearances.
He moved to Norwich, then chasing promotion from League 1, in January 2010 and played his part in securing back-to-back promotions for the Canaries - particularly coming to the fore during the second half of their ascent out of the Championship in 2011. He also featured as a starter upon Norwich's return to the Premier League last term and went on to make 21 appearances in the top flight.
Zak joined the Leicester City squad for training on Monday but, due to his later start to pre-season training, is not expected to feature in Tuesday night's friendly at Hinckley United.
Fiorentina have confirmed that they have completed a deal this evening for Udinese’s utility man Juan Cuadrado.
The 24-year-old, who can play at full-back, on the wing, as an attacking midfielder and as a striker, was in Florence this evening talking to reporters and taking a medical ahead of the move.
Cuadrado joins Fiorentina on an initial one-year loan deal, with a €5m fee believed to be in place for La Viola to take co-ownership of the player next summer if they so wish.
The transfer was confirmed via a brief statement on the club’s official website.
“Fiorentina announces that it has acquired, on loan with the right to redemption, the playing rights of footballer Juan Guillermo Cuadrado, from Udinese.”
Lille have signed Troyes full-back Djibril Sidibe, the Ligue 1 club have confirmed.
Sidibe, who will celebrate his 20th birthday this Sunday, has signed a five-year contract as Les Dogues seek a long-term replacement for Mathieu Debuchy, who has stated his wish to leave the club after being linked with Newcastle.
Sidibe told his new club's website: "I'm very happy to join Lille, who are one of the biggest teams in France.
"The ambition and the project of the club, but also the style of play developed by Rudi Garcia, convinced me.
"Lille are an attacking team and I like the coach's philosophy.
"Even though I am a defender above all and my main role is to defend well, I am glad to be able to get forward when the opportunity presents itself."
Though Lille are prepared to allow Debuchy to move on once they have a replacement in place, it has previously been reported that the signing of Sidibe, who has no top-flight experience to date in his career, would not be sufficient to free up the France right-back.
"It's obviously a big step in my career," Sidibe said. "Up to now, I have only played in Ligue 2 with Troyes.
"I have had unforgettable moments with the club but with Lille, I will get to play in Ligue 1 and in Europe. It really is a great opportunity for me to be part of this adventure.
"The bar is high but the challenge is terribly exciting."
“The soap opera is over. I am very happy to have signed” for Roma, said Mattia Destro after putting pen to paper on a five-year contract.
The striker had been at the centre of a tug of war with Juventus after he turned down the personal terms proposed by the Giallorossi.
However, competition from Juventus was swept aside as he signed a five-year contract today said to be worth €1.5m per season plus performance-related bonuses.
“The soap opera is over,” smiled Destro to journalists. “I am very happy to have signed.”
It is believed Roma have taken Destro on loan from Genoa with option to buy for €7m.
As part of the deal, the Giallorossi hand youth team players Valerio Verre to Siena and Giammario Piscitella to Genoa in co-ownership agreements.
The Gazzetta dello Sport is suggesting that Mattia Destro will eventually cost Roma somewhere in the region of €16m.
The striker, co-owned between Siena and Genoa, has finally agreed to join the Stadio Olimpico giants and an official announcement should be made towards the end of the week.
Genoa will firstly sign total control of the Italian Under-21 international, before then handing him over to the Giallorossi.
The Gazzetta claims that the former Inter youngster will initially move to Rome from the port club on a loan deal at a cost of €5m.
They will also have a right to buy at the end of the season for a further €7m. Genoa will also get a half-share in the contracts of youngsters Eugenio Lamanna, Valerio Verre and Gianmario Piscitella.
In terms of the player himself, it is claimed that he has accepted a five-year contract which will see him net a basic €1.5m a season, but that could rise depending on bonus clauses.
Genoa have officially signed Julian Alberto Velazquez from Independiente after he underwent a medical.
The Argentine centre-back flew in from South America this morning to meet with the Genoa directors, finalise the details of his contract and have tests with the medical staff.
The club has not yet revealed how long the contract is or the terms of the agreement with Independiente.
Velazquez is a 21-year-old defender who has already won the Copa Sudamericana with Independiente in 2010, scoring a goal in the Final.
He also has one senior cap for Argentina and is thought to have cost in the region of €1.8m.
City have completed the signing of former Nottingham Forest winger Paul Anderson on a two-year deal.
Anderson, who turned 24 on Monday, joined Forest from Liverpool for £250,000 in 2009. He was an FA Youth Cup winner at Anfield three years previously, but never graduated to the first team.
Instead he spent time on loan at Swansea City and Forest, making the move to the City Ground permanent after two goals in 28 appearances.
Anderson went on to play a further 104 times for the East Midlands club, scoring nine goals, and arrives at Ashton Gate on a free transfer.
City manager Derek McInnes told bcfc.co.uk: "I'm delighted to have completed this capture. He is a player with bags of potential, who knows the npower Championship with years of experience in the division and arrives at a decent age.
"It was frustrating for him last year not playing as many games as he would have liked. We've been able to pick him up on a free transfer, a lad desperate to play regularly again.
"He has real pace, can play in two or three different roles and is a good addition to strengthen our team and squad.
"He has his best years ahead of him, and we've beaten a number of other clubs to his signature."
Anderson will travel with the squad on their pre-season tour of Scotland, departing for north of the border tomorrow, and is expected to make his debut in the friendly with St Johnstone.
MELTON professional footballer Paul Anderson has this morning signed for Bristol City on a two-year contract.
The 24-year-old winger joined City on a free transfer after Nottingham Forest failed to offer him a new deal before his contract expired.
Several Championship clubs had expressed an interest in securing his services including Blackpool, Huddersfield, Hull City and Cardiff City, but Anderson was impressed by what Robins manager Derek McInnes had to offer at Ashton Gate.
Dad Phil said: “He really liked the area and what Derek McInnes had to say. He had several options, but Bristol City were the most proactive throughout. He felt this was the club that wanted him the most and their style of football will suit him.”
Anderson made around 120 appearances in four seasons with Forest, signing from Liverpool in 2008 after a successful season on loan at the City Ground. During his time Forest made the promotion play-offs in two successive seasons, but missed out in the semi-finals on both occasions.
Anderson will join City’s pre-season tour to Scotland before heading back to Bristol for a friendly with derby rivals Rovers ahead of the new campaign.
Ironically his first competitive league game in Bristol’s number 21 shirt could be a return to his former employers when City kick off their Championship season at Forest on Saturday, August 18.
French defender Julien Escude has left Sevilla to join Turkish club Besiktas.
The 32-year-old, who won the last of his 13 international caps in 2009, has signed a two-year contract ahead of his move to Istanbul.
Escude's exit brings to an end his successful six-year spell at the Estadio Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan, during which time he earned two winner's medals in both the Copa del Rey and UEFA Cup.
His place in the squad will be taken by another Frenchman after the Andalucian club signed France under-19 midfielder Geoffrey Kondogbia.
The 19-year-old has signed a five-year deal after joining for an undisclosed fee from Ligue 2 side Lens, where he made 34 appearances last term.
Sevilla have confirmed they have completed the signing of Lens midfielder Geoffrey Kondogbia for an undisclosed fee.
The 19-year-old midfielder landed in Seville on Tuesday morning and underwent the routine medical checks in the afternoon before signing a five-year contract with the Spanish side.
Kondobgia, an Under-19 international for France, has caught the eye of a number of clubs across Europe since breaking into Lens' first team in 2010.
Juventus, AC Milan, Napoli and Inter were all said to be interested in the midfielder, who made 39 appearances for the Ligue 2 side.
According to Sevilla, Kondobgia will take part in the club's afternoon session and will be officially presented in the following days.
Chelsea Football Club is delighted to announce the signing of Oscar.
Oscar, full name Oscar dos Santos Emboaba Junior, who will be 21 in September, is a Brazilian international who played for two clubs in his homeland prior to his move.
Having come through the youth system at Sao Paulo, he graduated to the first team in 2008, the same year he was part of the Brazil side that won the Under-17 World Championships. That feat had also been achieved the previous year.
His time at Sao Paulo came to an end in December 2010 with a move to Internacional, a club based in Porto Alegre in the very south of the country. In 2011 and 2012 they won the local state championship and Internacional also used Oscar as a substitute in the 2010 FIFA Club World Cup, the competition to be contested by Chelsea in December, although they suffered a shock defeat by Congolese side Mazembe.
Oscar, who played international football at every level from Under-15 to Under-20, made his debut for Brazil's senior side in September 2011, coming on as a substitute in a 0-0 draw against big rivals Argentina.
He made his full debut in a win over Denmark in May and his most recent cap, his sixth, was in June when he scored his first international goal although Brazil were beaten 4-3 by Argentina in New Jersey, USA, as Lionel Messi scored a hat-trick.
Oscar's most notable moment on the international stage so far was in the final of the Under-20 World Cup in Colombia when he scored a hat-trick in a 3-2 extra-time win against Portugal.
A 5ft 10in (1.79m) attacking midfielder who can play wide, he has a reputation for good pass-and-move football, protecting the ball and choosing the right moment to play passes.
He is currently part of Brazil's squad at the London Olympics. He played in the 2-0 win over Great Britain in the warm-up game last Friday.
Roberto Di Matteo believes Oscar will prove to be a 'fantastic signing' after the Brazil international completed his transfer on Wednesday.
The 20-year-old arrives from Internacional to join compatriots David Luiz and Ramires in the first-team squad, though he is currently on Olympic duty having helped beat Team GB in a friendly last week.
'He is a fantastic player, one of the youngest to push through to the Brazilian national team and he will be a fantastic signing for us,' Di Matteo said.
'Oscar is a very exciting young talent, a creative midfield player who scores goals. He will add a lot of options and solutions for us in midfield.'
Oscar becomes the fourth young attacking midfielder to have joined the club this summer, following Kevin De Bruyne, Eden and Thorgan Hazard and Marko Marin, and Di Matteo admits it will be a challenge to bring balance to the line-up, though the signing can only help our push for honours.
'It will be a challenge to make sure we have the right balance within the team so we will have to see how we fit the team together with all the players.
'The club has always been competitive, looking to improve, get better and fight at the top end of the league so it will only give us a better chance in the Premier League.'
Sean O'Driscoll has moved to strengthen Nottingham Forest's defensive resources by signing Danny Collins from Stoke City.
Collins becomes new Manager O'Driscoll's second Reds signing after the club paid an undisclosed fee for his services.
He follows the arrival of Adlene Guedioura from Wolves earlier in the week.
Collins flew back from Stoke's pre-season tour of the US to complete the formalities of his switch to The City Ground.
Nottingham Forest Chairman Omar Al Hasawi said: "We are delighted to bring a player of Danny's experience and calibre to the Club.
"We are sure he will prove to be an excellent addition to the squad Sean O'Driscoll is assembling for the challenges that lie ahead."
The 31 year old Welsh international, who can operate either in the centre of defence or at left back, started his career with Chester City before moving to Sunderland in 2004.
He made more than 150 appearances for the Wearside club, many of which were in the Premier League.
Collins joined Stoke in 2009 and has made 50 top flight appearances for The Potters. He also had loan spells with Ipswich - he scored twice against Forest in a 3-2 defeat at The City Ground - and West Ham last season.
He has been capped 12 times by Wales.
Sean O'Driscoll believes Danny Collins' experience will prove invaluable for Nottingham Forest.
The 31 year old defender trained with his new team-mates for the first time today after completing his move from Stoke yesterday.
New Manager O'Driscoll is delighted to have made the former Sunderland man his second signing following Adlene Guedioura's arrival earlier in the week.
And he told us: "We want to sign players with character and Danny has got that and we want to sign players who know the Championship and have been promoted - he has done that three times.
"He knows all about the journey from the Championship to the Premier League, which is important, and he has got ability.
"He can play left back or as a left-sided central defender."
O'Driscoll has also revealed he spoke to his opposite number at Stoke before finalising the deal for the Welsh international.
"I know Tony Pulis from my days at Bournemouth and he gave Danny a glowing reference," he says.
"He was keen to come and it's a good challenge for him at this stage of his career.
"When you are putting together a completely new back four the two central defenders are key and he will be a good asset to the team."
For 3m they can replace him fairly easily, Leeds could get automatic promotion this year i think.Snodgrass from Leeds to Norwich for an undisclosed fee but rumoured to be £2.5m-£3m. He was in the final year of his contract so Leeds were never going to get the £5m asking price.
He's this years David Bentley i.e. he's got decent delivery and might have the odd decent spell of form but wide-men with no pace rarely last long in the EPL.
The majority of Leeds fans are upset about him leaving but the few more sensible ones are quite pleased because they know he's overrated.
