Luuk de Jong - Borussia Monchengladbach

Borussia have completed the signing of Holland international Luuk de Jong from FC Twente. The 21-year-old striker has put pen to paper on a five-year deal that will tie him to the club until 30 June 2017.

In the last two seasons De Jong scored 39 goals in 75 Eredivisie appearances. He has played seven times for Holland so far, scoring once. "We're delighted the transfer has finally gone through and Luuk can travel with us to our Tegernsee training camp on Friday," said director of sport Max Eberl. "In Luuk de Jong we have signed a hugely talented forward who though he is only 21 already has a wealth of international experience with Twente and Holland."

De Jong began his career at youth level with Eredivisie outfit De Graafschap, where he signed professional terms in 2008. He made his top-flight debut at the age of 18 and scored his first goal against Twente in February 2009. In his opening season De Jong made 14 appearances and scored two goals before joining Twente when De Graafschap were relegated.

In 2010 De Jong won the league with Twente and a year later added a cup-winner's medal. In the season just gone he bagged 25 goals in 31 appearances to finish second-highest scorer in Holland. He also scored two goals in four cup matches. In the Champions League qualifying competition, which Twente exited at the play-off stage against Benfica, De Jong contributed one goal in four appearances. In the Europa League he scored four times in ten outings, including the only goal in a 1 0 first-leg Round of 16 win over FC Schalke 04.

His performances for Twente earned him an international call-up in early 2011 and he made his debut in a 3-1 win over Austria on 9 February, coming on as a substitute 15 minutes from time. He scored his first international goal in a Euro 2012 qualifier in Finland in September 2011. To date he has made seven appearances for his country. De Jong was an unused member of the Dutch squad at the Euros in Poland and Ukraine.

Marco Verratti - PSG (€12m)

Paris Saint-Germain have presented new signing Marco Verratti to the media after his move from Pescara. “PSG were my first choice.”

The 19-year-old was being linked with moves to Juventus and Napoli, but neither club were wiling to pay the €12m asking price.

“PSG were the only club who really chased me with insistence and I told my agent that they were my first choice,” he stated this afternoon. “It was easy to choose Paris.

“There is more faith abroad in youngsters, but there is not only Italy for Italians. I didn’t hesitate for a second in accepting this offer.

“I’m proud to be here, but I think Italian clubs should point more towards youth.

“I still haven’t achieved what the champions already at this club have, but I want to demonstrate that I can do well by giving my best in each game.”

Verratti is the latest Italian-based player to be acquired by PSG sporting director Leonardo and he’s looking forward to the challenge.

“Playing with people like Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Ezequiel Lavezzi, Javier Pastore and the others, is something I’m proud of,” he noted.

“I’m delighted with this new adventure, I can’t wait for the season to start.

“I owe a lot to this club, opportunities like this don’t happen every day to a 19-year-old and I’ll look to pay back PSG for this faith.

“It’s a physical championship, but it is growing. I’m certain that we will be protagonists as that is what we want.”

The French outfit are bossed by Italian tactician Carlo Ancelotti, but Verratti’s contact with the Coach has been minimal so far.

“I haven’t spoken that much to Ancelotti,” he added. “I want my football to do the talking.”

Chris Gunter - Reading (£2.5million)

The Royals are delighted to announce a second major signing in the space of a few hours with Welsh international Chris Gunter joining on a three-year contract, with the option of a further year.

After signing Adrian Mariappa for a significant fee earlier in the day, the Club have again made a sizeable outlay to bring 22-year-old Chris to Madejski Stadium.

Chris moves to Berkshire from Nottingham Forest, and he has exceptional experience despite his tender age. He first came through the ranks at Cardiff in his native south Wales, and then earned a move to Tottenham before a switch to Forest, where he again showed his quality and has been named by his fellow professionals as one of the very best in his position.

Chairman Sir John Madejski said, "This has been quite a day for our club, and I would now like to offer a very warm welcome to Chris Gunter.

"With both him and Adrian signing today, we have added two excellent young players, and they both fit into our ethos in terms of mentality, stature and their standing in the game. They both have their best footballing years ahead of them, and Chris already has experience for his country as well. I am sure our supporters will join me in wishing him the very best of luck."

Director of Football Nick Hammond said, "Chris has a fantastic record for a 22-year-old, both in terms of the number of games he has played and his international experience. People tend to think he's older than he actually is because he moved to Tottenham at such a young age.

"He's still got an enormous amount of development ahead of him, and as with Adrian, because of Forest's change in ownership it has taken until now. Chris has been a target of ours since the very start of the summer. With Chris and Adrian signing today, we've added two players who have great experience for their age."

Manager Brian McDermott said, "I'm absolutely delighted that Chris has signed. He was very, very keen to come to us and is another player who is young and very hungry. He's already played more than 200 games at club level, plus another 37 for his country, which is phenomenal for someone so young. Chris already knows our club well, he is very close to Garath McCleary, knows our Welsh players and I also know he met many of our squad over the summer too.

"As with all the players we have brought in this summer they will improve and get better, and the most important thing is their hunger and desire. With all the business we've done this summer we think we've improved the quality in the squad considerably."

Gunter said, "Having spoken to the manager, Nick Hammond and the Chairman today, everyone has made me feel really welcome and I'm really looking forward to this opportunity.

"If you form a team spirit, a togetherness, you'll always do well in football - and if you work hard you'll get your rewards. Reading have certainly done that in the last few years. Hopefully that can carry on. Right now, I need to focus on impressing everyone at this club and I'm really excited to get going."

Chris has been a Welsh international since under 17 level, and was the youngest ever Welshman to play for their under 21s at only 16 years old.

He was named the Football League's Apprentice of the Year in 2007, and his promise earned him a big move to Tottenham, for whom he made his debut in an FA Cup tie against Reading.

He then joined Forest, initially on loan, and has played the best part of 150 games for the City Ground side, also being named in the 2009-10 Championship team of the year. He now departs the east Midlands to move back to the Barclays Premier League with Reading.

The deal is subject to the normal ratification of paperwork, and his squad number will be confirmed in due course.

Carlos Vela - Real Sociedad ( €3.7 million + sell on fee)

Spanish side Real Sociedad signed a four year deal with Mexican international Carlos Vela the team announced on its official website Tuesday. La Real came to an agreement with north London club Arsenal who owned the players rights.

“Real Sociedad has come to an agreement with Arsenal Football Club so that Carlos Vela can play the next four seasons with the txuri urdin,” the official announcement said. The club had negotiated to acquire the player for several weeks. Vela played the 2011-12 season with the northern Spanish team on loan appearing in 35 games and scoring 12 goals.

Vela returned to London at the end of his loan spell. Now he must report to San Sebastian to integrate himself to the club under the orders of Coach Philippe Montanier. His official presentation is next Thursday.

“I’m really happy because this is my home, and I am glad to be back,” Vela said to the team’s official website. “I hope we are able to do better than last season.”

The Mexican bomber made a big impression with the local fans. At the conclusion of the season the fans asked that he stay. He had a good start to the season, but an extraordinary second half with 10 goals. He was the league’s third best goal scorer in the second half behind Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi.

“I never had a doubt,” Vela added. “I always said it, and being here I made it known to my team mates. I had a great relationship with them and obviously with the fans as well. It’s as if I had been here for a long time.”

Vela was loaned to Real Sociedad last season after a short career with Arsenal FC, the team that took him to Europe in 2005. With Arsenal, Vela scored 11 goals in 62 appearances across the three tournaments the gunners participated in.

With the Mexican national team Vela has made 35 appearances and scored nine goals. Vela was also part of the Mexican U-17 squad that won the Peru 2005 World Cup.

The Cancun native will join Real Sociedad for the next four seasons as he tries to increase his game play and develop as a soccer player.

Modibo Maiga - West Ham (undisclosed fee, reportedly £4.5million)

West Ham United are delighted to announce the signing of Mali international forward Modibo Maiga.

The 24-year-old has linked up with the Hammers from French side FC Sochaux-Montbeliard for an undisclosed fee, signing on a four-year contract with an option for a further two years.

Maiga, who can play as a centre forward or on the wing, has scored 24 league goals in the last two seasons to become one of the hottest properties in Ligue 1.

The player, who becomes West Ham's fifth summer arrival following Mohamed Diame, George McCartney, Jussi Jaaskelainen and Stephen Henderson, told whufc.com of his pleasure at completing his move to the Boleyn Ground.

"I am really happy and excited about joining West Ham United," said Maiga. "I know West Ham are a big club in England and I'm really looking forward to representing them. They have huge tradition and it is like joining part of a family and that is one of the main reasons I wanted to come here.

"I know some of the big names that have played for the club in the past and I am proud to be part of a new team back in the Premier League."

Born in the Malian capital Bamako, Maiga began his career with Stade Malien in his homeland at the age of 15 in 2003, but his undoubted talent and potential saw him snapped up by leading Moroccan club Raja Casablanca the following year.

After winning the Moroccan League and Arab Champions League, Maiga joined French Ligue 1 side Le Mans UC72 in 2007, where he played alongside Arsenal forward Gervinho and Sunderland attacking midfielder Stephane Sessegnon.

The African netted 15 goals in 88 league appearances for Le Mans before moving to Sochaux, where he quickly struck up a potent partnership with Nigerian Ideye Brown.

Maiga netted 16 goals in his first season with Les Lionceaux, helping the club to finish fifth in Ligue 1 and qualify for the UEFA Europa League.

Last term, the forward scored nine times in 23 league appearances as Sochaux finished 14th, while he also made his debut in European competition.

At international level, Maiga featured regularly for Mali at age-group level, appearing against England in the UEFA-CAF Meridian Cup Under-18 tournament in Egypt in 2003.

At senior level, he has scored five goals in 31 appearances and appeared at the 2012 CAF Africa Cup of Nations. However, he contracted malaria while participating in the competition and was thus hospitalized and had to miss the 1-0 semi-final defeat by Cote d'Ivoire.

Maiga becomes the second Malian to represent West Ham, following fellow forward Frederic Kanoute. Now 34 and still playing in China, Kanoute scored 33 goals in 92 appearances for the Hammers between March 2000 and May 2003.

I'd love to see him England, he's be shite, and I do think he's great n'all, but he's a lazy, fat, self obsessed fuck head.

That awkward moment when you realise PSG paid less for Zlatan and Thiago Silva than we did for Carroll and Downing.

Nick Proschwitz - Hull City (€3.3million)

The Tigers have completed the signing of Nick Proschwitz from German side SC Paderborn for a fee of €3.3million.

The 25-year-old arrives at the KC Stadium having scored 17 goals in 33 games for the German Second Division side last season.

Proschwitz has put pen-to-paper on a three-year deal with the Tigers and trained with his new team-mates for the first time this morning.

Nick Proschwitz is delighted to sign for the Tigers and believes the club can help him achieve his dream of playing Premier League football.

The 25-year-old frontman completed his €3.3million move this morning and was quick to signal his desire to help the club win promotion to the top-flight of English football.

“I’m delighted to have completed my move to the club,” he said.

“I think I have joined a great group of lads. Everyone is friendly, everyone is nice and, most importantly, everyone likes to work and train hard which is exactly what I like to do.

“I think Hull City is the perfect club for me and the next stage of my career - I’m proud to call myself a Hull City player.

“I had a great time at my previous club but that is in the past and the only thing I’m focused on now is my future with Hull City.

“Playing in the Premier League is big goal for me and I believe Hull City can help me achieve that goal.

“I believe the Premier League and the German Bundesliga are the biggest leagues in world football and, if I can play in the top-flight of English football, it would be a dream come true for me.”

Proschwitz was in the stands as Steve Bruce’s side beat Winterton Rangers 5-0 on Tuesday night and is hoping to make his Tigers debut on Friday night away at Grimsby but insists his new boss will make the decision on whether he has any involvement.

“I’m fit and raring to go,” he added.

“I’ve done four weeks of pre-season training, three with my former club and one on my own although it’s good to be able to finally train with my new team-mates though.

“Of course I hope to be involved on Friday but you would have to ask the manager because he is the one who will decide whether or not I play.”

Zlatan's press conference in Paris was supposedly great - "I don't know much about the French league. They know about Zlatan though."

Zlatan Ibrahimovic - PSG (€20 million)

Zlatan Ibrahimovic completed his much-anticipated move to Paris Saint-Germain on Wednesday, saying he has joined "the dream team" after becoming the big-spending French club's most high-profile signing yet.

PSG missed out on the league title last season despite spending more than €100 million ($123 million) on players and it has upped the ante this off-season, topping it all with the transfer of Ibrahimovic from AC Milan in what sporting director Leonardo dubs "the biggest deal in this club's history."

"I want to thank PSG and Leonardo," Ibrahimovic said. "They made something impossible possible and now I am very happy. It's a big step in my career, another dream come true.

"I know there's been a big media interest in this. It's been more intense than when I moved to Barcelona. I'm very excited in this project. I'm here to make history and I will enjoy all the trophies we bring home."

The Sweden captain has signed a three-year contract with PSG, worth a reported €14 million ($17 million) net a year, €2 million more than he earned at Milan.

"It seems that I will finish my career here but that's what I said at Milan too," the 30-year-old Ibrahimovic said. "You never know what will happen. But I'm not thinking about that at the moment, I'm thinking about winning during my time here."

PSG has paid a reported €20 million ($25 million) for Ibrahimovic, taking its summer spending on new players to an estimated €112 million ($137 million).

The club's Qatari owners are intent on turning the club into a European power and have already signed Ibrahimovic's former Milan teammate Thiago Silva and Napoli's Ezequiel Lavezzi this preseason. Midfielder Marco Verratti was also unveiled Wednesday after completing his move from Pescara.

Leonardo said there will be no more signings this off-season, even though the club has been infused with seemingly limitless amounts of cash since a member of the ruling family in oil-rich Qatar bought the Paris club a year ago. Sheik Tamim Bin Hamad Al Thani's Qatar Sports Investments now owns 70 per cent of the club.

PSG's huge outlay last season included spending a French record €42 million ($55.4 million) on Argentine playmaker Javier Pastore, as well as signing winger Jeremy Menez from Roma, midfielder Mohamed Sissoko from Juventus, defenders Maxwell from Barcelona and Alex from Chelsea, along with midfielder Thiago Motta from Inter Milan.

"I come to a dream team and the dream team will continue to grow," Ibrahimovic said. "They will do everything to win and I want to be part of that. I'm going to be playing with the best players in the world. They've also bought the best defender in the world, Thiago Silva, and as long as I have him behind me I don't need to look back.

"Who doesn't want to be here? This is the future and I believe in this, this is the most important. When you look at the team it's really a dream team. It's the future not only of French football but also in Europe and even the world."

Italian media has said that Ibrahimovic was forced out of Milan after the club decided the fee for an aging player was too good to turn down.

"I'm very happy I was there. Milan gave me my smile back," Ibrahimovic said. "I will always have very good memories of Milan. I was very happy. I don't want to put a shadow over my time at Milan, they made it very easy for me to come to PSG.

"I thank them and I wish them all the luck. They are a great club and I'm sure they will continue to win."

Ibrahimovic joined Milan from Barcelona on loan in 2010 and the move was made permanent the following year. With 28 goals, Ibrahimovic was Serie A's top scorer last season — a feat he also achieved with Inter in 2009.

The Sweden captain spent three seasons at Inter and two at Juventus, winning the Serie A title every year — although the two he won with Juventus were later revoked because of the match-fixing scandal.

Ibrahimovic also won the Dutch league twice with Ajax and the Spanish title with Barcelona before lifting another Serie A trophy with Milan.
However, Ibrahimovic rejected the suggestion that PSG, which has not won the league title since 1994, might pale in comparison with other illustrious clubs he has played for.

"I consider this team as the same level as other teams I have played for," he said. "But we have to go out and show it on the pitch. If you look on paper we are definitely up there. But we have to show it. We have to win.

"Now that the dream has become reality everyone is talking about Ligue 1. Everyone should be positive about this. But it's up to us to prove it now. We have to win."

Ibrahimovic's agent said Sunday that Serie A has lost its last remaining star, and Ibrahimovic agrees.

"I came here because I see the future here. I don't see the future in Italy," he said. "What happens in Italy is their problem now. Losing two big stars like me and Thiago Silva is a big thing for the club and the championship.

"For sure the Italian championship without us will be more poor, but I don't know if it will have less quality. What I know now is that with us the French championship will be better and more watched in the world."

Ibrahimovic's arrival has thrilled most French football supporters, with hundreds gathering at PSG's official store on the Champs-Elysees to welcome the star after the news conference.

However, not everyone is happy with the transfer, with French sports minister Valerie Fourneyron decrying the spending spree.
"These sums are astronomic, they are unreasonable," she said. "They reflect everything we deplore in the footballing sector today — that is to say the absence of any regulation, and debts which keep on accumulating.

"It reminds us again how much we need the regulation that (UEFA president) Michel Platini proposes for UEFA clubs so that there will be a ceiling on the payroll in regards to all the budgets."

Leandro Castan - Roma (€5m)

Roma have confirmed the signing of 25-year-old defender Leandro Castan from Brazilian outfirt Corinthians.

The centre-back, who has had a previous spell in Europe with Helsingborgs IF, has been widely expected to complete a move to the capital club this summer, as the Giallorossi bid to improve their defence from last season.

Castan’s arrival has now been made official, via a statement released by Roma on their official website.

“AS Roma announces that it has signed an agreement with Corinthians for the definitive acquisition of the rights of the player Leandro Castan da Silva, for a fee of €5m, with the player signing a contract for four years until June 30, 2016.”

Burak Yilmaz - Galatasaray (€5 million plus 25% sell on fee)

Trabzonspor confirmed on the Public Disclosure Forum that Burak Yilmaz is no longer contracted to the club.

The statement read, "We released information, 9 July 2012, that we had accepted F.C. Lokomotiv Moscow transfer bid for Burak Yilmaz however, Yilmaz was unable to reach an agreement with the club.

"Following these developments, Galatasaray made an offer in-line with article 6-D from Burak Yilmaz's contract which released him from the club.

"Galatasaray will pay €5 million upfront and 25 per-cent if Yilmaz is transferred to another club.

"The contract between Burak Yilmaz and Trabzonspor has been mutually terminated."

Yilmaz is expected to undergo a medical tomorrow and being training with Galatasaray soon after.

The 26-year-old Turkish international has been in prolific form for Trabzonspor over the past two seasons.

Yilmaz guided the Black Sea club to pole position in the 2010-11 season scoring 19 times, only to lose out on winning the championship to Fenerbahce on goal difference.

The Turkish Goal King netted 35 times in 41 games last season. Yilmaz broke the clubs all time scoring record in the league last season and scored 51 per-cent of Trabzonspor's 65 goals.
