Is it the standard getting worse or the fact that every decision is now recorded, reviewed & dissected under the microscope that every call that is slightly off gets held up as proof that standards are deteriorating.

Referees have always got big calls wrong from time to time.

Yep, Gerrard also said in his post-match interview something about wanting to come back in a couple of years time ‘but we’ll have to see who’s in charge’ or something along those lines.

That's interesting. I heard his Sky interview but he didn't say anything like that, that I recall. Was it on BBC?

Lots of things Rodgers does makes him look like a robot that's been programmed to appear managerial. Arm thrust up when the team scores; hold it there for five seconds for the cameras. *click-whirr* Fatherly pat on the cheek or back of neck when a favoured player is subbed. *click-whirr* Arms folded tightly when team concedes a goal; fix calm expression for one, two, three, four, five beats, and then scribble something into notebook. *click-whirr* The daftest thing is when he covers his mouth to speak to Colin Pascoe. This is a man who practically shouts his tactical plans through strangers' letterboxes, and he's hiding his mouth when talking about who next to play out of position at right back!

It's a red card for Fabregas and not only does Marriner allow play to go on, he then brandishes a red card to the wrong player before issuing a yellow to Fabregas. The fourth official is explaining the situation to Rodgers so there's obviously been contact between the officials to rectify the mistake, something which usually doesn't happen.

I can't blame the ref at all .... it's incredibly easy to mix up Fabregas (playing in a mask) and Mikel. I do it all the time.

Partly this. Partly players are now far bigger cheats (having found new ways to con refs). Partly the speed of the game (especially in the PL).

If Blatter and Platini weren't such cunts we'd have rugby style reviews by now which would improve the game immensely.

This wasn't a decision that was slightly off. Marriner has now done this twice in a little over twelve months.

How the fuck does he wave play on after that challenge ? Cautions Filipe Luis for shirt pulling but no Fabregas ?
And will an explanation be given about the Mikel thing ?

You know... Like Graham Poll needing to give one guy 3 yellows, the hand of God being allowed, Schumacher's assault on Battison resulting in a German goal kick, Henchoz' blatant hand balls in the "Owen" FA Cup Final, the beachball incident... I'm sure everyone has their own personal favourite.

They're human - and they fuck up.

Have a missed something here, who got a red card brandished?

Nice to see has no time for their shit.

"I was more happy with the ovation from the Liverpool fans," said Gerrard. "Chelsea fans have had respect for a couple of seconds today but have slaughtered me all game.

"I'm not going to get drawn into wishing Chelsea fans well. It was nice of them to turn up for once today."

Speaking to BBC Sport, Gerrard added: "It was a nice touch. I know they've absolutely murdered me for years because I never signed here. I've had great support from the Liverpool fans - that's all that matters to me."

"Can't send of sweet and Innocent Cesc, that big burly clumsy hulk that is Mikel can fuck right off though."
