Charity Shield

Salah has got a season's worth of misses out of his system. He will score every time from here on

Good performance and much better than pre season was suggesting. Overall we were the better team. Yeh it would have been nice to have another ‘trophy’, but hey, it’s looking good.

Man City fans really have an inferiority complex when it comes to us. We came down yesterday and stayed in Watford (shithole). Breakfast this morning in the travelodge, I’m rough as fuck and talking to this bird at the bar, she’s about 60 and a city fan. Sound though. We are both being dead complimentary about each other’s teams, managers, and last season in general. Anyway, her cunt of a fella must have got jealous and thought I was gonna rattle his bird or something cos he shouted out to her Debbie ask the scouser how many points they got last season and still couldn’t win the league

Only watched the highlights there so can't talk about the performance.

People blaming Alisson for the goal are being harsh I think. Yeah it squeezes under him, but it's from very close range. Would've been a great save if he kept it out. He was unlucky with the Zinchenko pen as well. Just the power beat him.

Agree that it's harsh to think Alison should have had the opener. Great save if he makes it and was close enough to doing so.

1st half made me consider escaping into drugs and alcohol, 2nd half was much more encouraging.

However, at the end of the day it is the Charity Shield, a glorified friendly.

So ended up watching it in the main room of the house, surrounded by blues. Literally surrounded by them.

First half they were all made up, obv. I took it on the chin.

Second half they were loving our near misses, but all bar one particularly bitter bitter, said that they were extremely lucky to take it to pens, so that for me says a fucking lot.

And obv they were all made up we lost, but fair fucks, if they'd have celebrated winning the CL all summer I'd have wanted them to get beat too.

I thought we were nowhere near our best, & of course neither were they, but that second half performance, (coming after the dire first half, & fairly poor pre season) suggests we may not have to suffer an ignominious start to the season.

Putting perspective on it. Pre season friendly, I’m annoyed cause it was a chance for a trophy in the cabinet and a psychological boost for the players and fans alike.

However, positives, second half we played some unreal football, we shit them up massively and should have won, considering our pre season, against one of the best teams in Europe, I’ll take that. We weren’t at our best and missing arguably our best player from last season as well.

Our subs came on, and all of them were ON IT. Banana looked productive and a new player, same with Shaq and Ox. I liked Keita’s energy and tenacity, he played well when he came on. The whole cliche of having four new players etc etc.

Salah needs to sort his finishing/passing out, he looked on it, he looked fit, and firing but those near post misses were doing my head in. Every single time he looked to shoot, hopefully as the season goes on, that’ll improve.

When Alisson comes back from holiday hopefully that’ll improve our GK position. Nah, in all honesty, the goal, he’s lucky to even get to that, if he keeps that out, it’s a wonder save. On the penalties, Zinchenko absolutely smashed that, Alisson was just a bit unlucky. He did look a bit off it today but he’s just had a break, nothing to worry about.

Our midfield looked wank, hopefully Klopp can see that and either sorts them out or changes personnel. Gini didn’t play in the first half, Henderson fell over the ball and Fabs passing was all over. Looked loads better in second half especially after the changes. I still don’t know who to drop and change. For me Fabs has to play, but the other 2, I’ve got no clue, Hendo 2.0 in the second half of last season was really good, and I like Gini’s energy in the midfield when he turns up, but that’s Klopp’s problem to sort, I’m not being paid millions to work it out.

All in all, we should have beat them, and they played a full strength team and are still one of the best teams in Europe.

We’ll fucking spank Norwich.

A friendly only in name. The way we both went at each and the attitude of the managers .. that was a serious game of football. And although neither team were at full strength or fitness, we looked damn good and far better than I thought we would (even allowing for both of the very poor FB performances). Undoubtedly that will have given everyone at their club a wakeup call if they thought this season was going to be a stroll, and everyone at ours a confidence boost.

I'm gonna be honest here and admit that I was gutted by the result yesterday.
Certain players were just awful. I know that it isn't the most important game in the world, basically a friendly but to lose it to Man C despite them being decimated kinda stings.
Why Klopp started Gomez? I have no idea and I wasn't impressed. His pace covers for his poor positioning and it was frequent yesterday. TAA was owned by Sane.
Our midfield, all of them were fucking shite.
Salah didn't give a fuck about his teammates and his selfishness probably cost us the game yesterday. Lots of chances to square it to a teammate in the box but, no he has to take the most difficult shot.
Firmino was an absolute beast.
Origi, I really don't want to hate him, I really don't, especially after his heroics last season, but he's starting to annoy me.
I'd rather not have him start against Norwich. Also Keita has to start.

Was hoping we'd win this to get another change made to the champion's wall but we were very sharp and it bodes well for the start of the season.

Just watched the highlights, we were all over them, I didn't realise just how close some of our chances were, and how little they really created, despite their prolonged periods of having the ball and doing sweet FA with it.

One thing that was really evident watching the game yesterday, and amplified by the highlights, Zinchenko is fucking shit, and will be a massive liability for them this season. Any slightly pacey, and strong player will take him to town, Salah was just toying with him yesterday.

I enjoyed otimendi (I think it was him) being out paced by Henderson. Bar Walker their back line is pedestrian.

That's a fair summary of the first half but a bad one of the whole match.

We were by far the better team in the second half.

Reading those stats hurt my eyes.

It's a neutral ground with 50/50 fans for each team....there is no home or away side as far as I'm concerned
FFS, way to miss the point- we fucking dominated those stats. Every neutral ground nominates a home and away team for lots of practical reasons. Why in the name of fuck does it matter, and why should it 'hurt your eyes'?

I was encouraged by the signs we showed with the performance in the Charity Shield. I don't think either us or Citeh regarded that as a friendly but a match to test fitness and tactics. A slow start and then poor finishing meant we didn't win a game we could and probably should have. Pushing Citeh back time and again and watching us hit the woodwork and watching their defence clear goal bound shots from under the bar was impressive.

Disappointing result, good performance. We look ready for our opening game.
