Everton are playing AEK Athens in the UEFA Cup tonight, so might be a chance to see how he plays on the 'big stage'.

I watched a couple of pre-season matches and he did not impress at all.

I hope this loan move does him wonders.

Don't forget he's coming back from a mostly wasted season due to injuries. He'll get his form back from the season before and kick on. High hopes still.

For what it's worth, he's been doing well in Greece.

Has he ? Good to hear. How well ?

That's reassuring.

He'll be playing against Cisse at some stage this season.

The Future vs The Past.

Well, it's early days of course, but someone posted a front page splash from an Athens paper on here a couple of weeks or so ago from when Nemeth scored a couple to help AEK to some big derby win, and those weren't the first goals he's scored. I was reasonably impressed with what I saw of him the season before last, so I'm still hopeful for him now.

His wiki page says the he's scored 0 goals so far.

🙁

Thanks JJ. Seems their season has only just started and Nemeth has an assist already (from the AEK website):

07-09-2009
AEK began the Greek Superleague with a n important victory 1-0 over Atromitos in Peristeri. Ismael Blanco scored the winning goal in the 58 ' after Nemeth’s assist, who made his first appearance in the league.

Is that right? What was the deal with those newspaper headlines then?
[/quote]

He put about 4 on a plate for Blanco who is clearly the worst striker in the world. His link-up play was excellent.

bring him back and send them voronin in january.

Disagree - at that age you just need to be playing competitive football and he won't get that for us at present. He'll still have N'gog an Babel to compete with for one substitute appearance. Let him have a good full season under his belt then flog Voronin over the summer and give the guy a chance in the first team.

Yep.

Unless there's a high change of a starting berth soon, c/f Insua, first team competition must be the highest priority.

On the day, though, Burnley had neither the strength nor the skill to cause us undue difficulty, especially late in the game when Degen came on.  I'd sooner trust Darby if one or other of them has to play RB in a game in which we're really pressed back.  I haven't seen much of either, but from what I have seen of Degen I wouldn't trust him to defend against a dead sheep.

Others who've seen more of him will be better placed to comment.  For me in this case it's less a love of Darby than a strong conviction that Degen isn't good enough and was a poor signing, even without his disastrous injury record.
