Champions League Games

I didn't see it but I gather Utd went one up with half an hour to go? There's only one thing worse than hope. That's false hope. Or a Bayern equaliser and second and third goals. Shows how they've fallen by the reaction. It just wasn't unexpected.

What's the ideal draw?

Chelsea Bayern
Atletico Real

?

Athletico have done well against Real in the league this season, played 2, won one drew one. Real dumped them out of the cup though to be fair.

To get Athletico to win it, I guess the 'easiest' way would be to play real and chelski and avoid bayern. But I have a feeling that if chelski got bayern, and beat them, they'd win the bloody thing as mourinho would go all out 1-0 for the final. And to be fair, for them cunts to win it with zero strikers would be some achievement.

Wonder if they can negotiate with Chelsea by telling them they'd prioritise on selling Costa to another team if they have to go through with this stupid clause.

How shite was Barcelonas defence last night. Mascherano was particularly bad, when are they going to buy some defenders?

You sure? I know you can't in the premier league. Different rules in the CL?

Can play against them in CL. Morientes did against Madrid for Monaco years ago. However doesn't look like he will.

Courtois won't face Chelsea

Atletico Madrid president Enrique Cerezo has confirmed that Thibaut Courtois is unlikely to play Chelsea, should the two clubs be drawn together in the Champions League semi-finals.

Thibaut Courtois: May not play in Champions League semi-finals

Courtois is currently in his third season on-loan at the Vicente Calderon from Chelsea.
And whilst there is nothing stopping Courtois featuring against his parent club - as would be the case in the Premier League - there is a clause in the deal that looks set to scupper any chance of that happening.
Chelsea inserted a clause in the deal that means Atletico would have to pay them extra money for every time Courtois appears against them.
Some reports claim it is as much as £4million per match, although the exact figure has not been confirmed.
However, Atletico president Cerezo has confirmed that the clause does exist and if the two teams are drawn together, then Courtois is unlikely to feature.
Speaking to Spanish radio Onda Cero, he said: "It is a figure that we cannot pay."
Should Atletico draw Chelsea, and Courtois does not play, then the Spanish side would have to turn to their number two - 34-year-old Dani Aranzubia, who has played just once for them this season.

Can't blame the Chavs for that TBF. It'd cost them a sod of a lot more if he did play against them and was instrumental in knocking them out.

I have a hunch they *will* get drawn together BTW. You can just see an all-Madrid final coming down the line.

Atletico would have to pay 6m over the two legs to play their keeper should they get Real, which they've said they can't afford.

Wonder how much more money a club makes when they get into a final these days?
If they play each other and Atletico are leading with a goal or two from the first leg, I can see them playing him for the second leg.

More likely they'll ask them to waive the fee for negotiating right for Costa in the summer or some other similar deal.

There was some figures posted on here not too long ago that showed juve , who only made it to the qfs a few seasons back made more than the finalists due to TV rights and being the only Italian team left in it etc. The amount a team can win seems quite volatile to external factors and given atletico''s lingering debts I'm not sure it's worth the risk of playing him

Insane sum. But they probably have had a decent loan fee so far for him and he has helped them to this point in their clubs history. Maybe it is worth it? Depends on alternatives. Should defo pay if they meet in final.

Chelsea - Real
Bayern - Atletico

Real - Bayern final

To me Real have looked possibly the weakest of the 4 remaining teams (esp. with Ronaldo injured/on the bench). They'll be better when he's back but were extremely luckily to get past Dortmund.

Watching Juventus Lyon

I really like what I've seen from Lacazette. Would be a fantastic addition.

Not the Champions League but I'll use this thread instead of starting a new one.

Europa League semi-finalists: Sevilla, Valencia, Benfica, Juventus.

That's a good quartet of teams.

Interesting.

What if it was Chelsea vs Atleti in the final.

Would Atleti play Courtois then?

Watched Sevilla with one eye (Rakitic impressed me again – really hope we can buy him in the summer) and Valencia with the other. A night of Spanish comebacks.

I reckon they would. The cost would be worth it if they won it.

Worth it for the prestige and the pride of accomplishment? Definitely.

Financially though, not really. The winner gets 10.5m, the losing finalist gets 6.5m. If they were to play Curtois and win it, they'd end up just 1m richer than not playing him at all and losing. If they play him and lose, they'll end up with just 3.5m to take home.
