About time our players started speaking up:
Liverpool stalwart Jamie Carragher has called for Kenny Dalglish to be given more time to turn around the club's fortunes.
Dalglish's position at Anfield has come under scrutiny after a run of five defeats in six Premier League games leaving the side in eighth spot in the table.
Carragher has issued a rallying call, claiming it is a work in progress at Anfield as the club were "on their knees" when Dalglish replaced Roy Hodgson last January.
"People need to remember where we were when Kenny took over again as manager," Carragher told the Sunday Telegraph.
"The club were on their knees. We'd gone through a difficult period and found ourselves in a poor position in the league. Kenny took over and it wasn't just that he gave everyone a lift in terms of his presence around the club, but most importantly with performances and results.
"Everyone knew this season was all about rebuilding the team and bringing a lot of new playing staff to make an improvement. Winning our first trophy in six years was a sign of that. It was a massive achievement for everyone at the club. We're still in the FA Cup so it could get better.
"We all recognise we've come up short in the league compared to where we'd like to be - because we wanted to be closer to the top four - but considering there's been a lot of change it was always going to be difficult given the established sides we were up against. We were just starting the process again so you can't just expect it happen immediately.
"It's ridiculous anyone would dismiss his experience and achievements in the game when he's started getting Liverpool winning trophies again already."
"He's the one here who knows what it means to win a league title and what we've got to do going forward.
"There isn't anyone else here with experience of winning a league title. It's ridiculous anyone would dismiss his experience and achievements in the game when he's started getting Liverpool winning trophies again already. "
Carragher also defended the likes of Andy Carroll, Jordan Henderson and Stewart Downing, who have all failed to live up to expectations at Anfield and hopes they can improve next season.
"As a group of players, we need to improve and it's not fair just talking about the new ones," added Carragher.
"Maybe we need a couple new players next season to push us on, and we hope the players we bought this season will then go on to another level after a year's experience playing for the club.
"It's not easy learning what it means to play for Liverpool. There's far more additional expectation and pressure here."

Well, at least he likes Dalglish.

Still shouldn't be starting though, offer him a coaching job.

It's because he never lost the dressing room like Kenny has.

players defend a manager that has lost the dressing room?
anyway back to carra (and gerrard), you have no idea how much it pissed me off that the pair of them we silent when rafa struggling for results when usually you can't shut the pair of them up. they knew what they were doing with their silence.

None of us knows what goes on behind closed doors Neil and, again thats more assumption - you have no idea what they were thinking, feeling or doing. Rafa was doomed when Purslow took control, don't blame the players for that. Have you not wondered why Purslow was fucked off so rapidly when the new owners came in ?

No, I was being sarcastic. All this "lost the drsssing room" stuff coming from certain quarters is pure wild assumption

I've raised the concern because the only reason we look so disinterested, imo, is a) players no longer care about the league b) players just aren't motivated and c) players don't care about what Daglish is saying.

I have no idea what is going on behind the scenes but carra has jumped to defense of kenny but failed to jump to the defense of rafa. if fact I remember when gerrard was asked point blank about the struggling rafa and he declined to answer.

I don't know what went on Neil. It was a different regime then. Maybe they didn't like Rafa - he came across as very stubborn at times. I personally liked the man but I also remember some of his stubborn tactics and the turgid football we played in his last season and for that reason I don't think bringing him back is the right thing.

the pair of them simply not liking the manager is a fair enough excuse but you'd think they would back the manager that brought out of them their very best form, neither of them were as good before or since although I'm sure someone will say that is simply because rafa was manager when they were in their prime.

Well that bit is true, though it's not to say he brought it out.

I wonder what Gerrard thinks. After basking in that crazy hype that followed the derby game he's been a fat lot of good on and off the pitch. He's a shockingly bad captain - they say he leads by example, well, his example was shit yesterday, and if that's all he does in the way of leadership he can do it without the armband. This is a time when he should be out there defending the club and engaging with supporters, and he's doing nothing. He was maddening yesterday, and the way he told Kenny to get off the pitch yesterday suggested he's been taking the recent hype too seriously.

I must have missed that bit, what happened?

When Reina got sent off Kenny was on the field and it looked like Gerrard was telling him to go away because he was dealing with it.

gerrard should be nowhere near the central midfield, he simply doesn't have the legs for it anymore. the way he strolls around is a big reason we get over run. we've fucked up our shape in midfield accomadating gerrard there.

And what about the other 88 minutes?
Shelvey.

I know it'll never happen. Aurelio is however a quality player. We've tried Hendo and Shelvey is inexperienced.
We should just give it a try and maybe he'll get a couple of free kick opportunities as well.

Thanks to LFCTV's daily interviews with players for the website and TV channel, we're effectively providing in-house training in how to explain away bad performances and ingratiate themselves with the fans. I agree they should all shut up!
